(Gibson) Although it's been widely reported that Van Halen will release a new album and embark on a huge tour in 2011, a spokesman for the band is saying that is not the case. Speaking on behalf of the band, Larry Solters told MelodicRock.com that, "none of it was true."The official word from Van Halen is, "no new album on the books" and "no new tour on the books." However, Solters did reveal that the band's current lineup (David Lee Roth, Eddie Van Halen, Alex Van Halen and Wolfgang Van Halen) have spent time together "working on stuff." Earlier reports from various sources (including Van Halen manager Irv Azoff) have indicated a massive 2011 tour for Van Halen that would cross North America, Europe and Australia. But fans will have to wait from the official announcement from the band to know if this is true.

Most rock fans have read reports or watched online video of a recent incident at Metallica's concert in Sydney, Australia where guitarist Kirk Hammett accidentally kicked a child in the head. Now the band has offered their side of the story:In the whacky world of rock'n'roll, sometimes stuff happens which looks even weirder than it really is! And with context being vital in these situations, we just wanted to address something which happened on the tour the other night regarding a large beachball, a band member's foot and a little girl. Some of you will have seen on youtube (or read in some reports) that Kirk knocked a small child offstage by kicking a beachball at her. That little lady is the daughter of the stage manager and dressing coordinator, who are fortunate to travel as a family on this tour. She was thoroughly enjoying watching the beachballs drop from the rafters, Kirk was thoroughly enjoying kicking the beachballs off the stage and back into the crowd as has been done every night on the tour, and neither of them saw the other. The poor wee one happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. She wasn't hurt. She didn't go "flying several feet into the audience." And Kirk and she remain good buddies. It's very cool that everyone showed concern and support though, so we just wanted to say "it's all good" and thanks for asking.

(hennemusic) It's interesting what happens when the dust settles on a relatively private-made-public incident: more information surfaces that can often change people's initial perception about things. The Toronto Sun reports that a close friend of Sebastian Bach has come to the defense of the former Skid Row frontman, disputing much of what's been said about Sunday night's events in Peterborough, Ontario, Canada. Bach, 42, was charged early Monday with assault, mischief and possession of marijuana after a glass at Riley's Olde Towne Pub was broken and the owner, Jim Kakouros, was bitten on the hand. Judd Smoke was with Bach Sunday night and said many of the allegations against Bach - including statements that Bach demanded star treatment and heckled and cursed at staff - aren't true.

Gibson has a great new interview with Peter Asher who was a rock star in his own right but was also head of A&R for The Beatles' Apple Records. Here are a couple of excerpts from the interview:What was a typical day at Apple like? I would arrive at a fairly normal time in the morning. I had an office on the top floor, where there were three or four and, at one point, five people working for me. As you probably know, Apple took out an ad, saying "Send us your tired and huddled tapes, and we will listen to them." And that's what we did. We would go through them, and listen, and make notes, and write people polite "thank you" notes. Unfortunately, to be honest, out of all that stuff nothing really emerged. The people we actually signed came through connections with people we knew. There were also normal record company meetings, about what was going to be released, and what needed to be finished, and how various projects were going. And then there was the unpredictable layer, which might involve the sudden arrival of Hare Krishnas, or the arrival of Ken Kesey's Merry Pranksters, or Hell's Angels. People like that would often just arrive without warning. It was a mixture. More is written today about the chaos factor, but actually there was a pretty reasonable balance between some fun, some chaos, and a lot of hard work involving records getting made. It's well-known that you discovered James Taylor, and signed him to Apple. Was your enthusiasm for Taylor shared by Lennon and McCartney? Paul certainly shared my enthusiasm for James. I think John was keen on him as well, but John was tied up with his own projects at the time. Ringo and George liked him as well. But then again, who couldn't like him? Those songs were phenomenally good.

(Gibson) On this day in 1990, David Crosby was hospitalized with multiple injuries after serious motorcycle accident near his home in Encino, California. The one-time Byrd was riding his 1987 Harley-Davidson along a winding stretch of road in the hills when he lost control of his motorcycle and slid for more than 40 feet. Crosby recovered but the accident was just one of a series of setbacks that threatened to destroy the CSNY star in the '80s and '90s. By the mid-1980s, Crosby's casual '60s drug use had turned into hardcore addiction. He was freebasing cocaine daily, addicted to heroin and was arrested several times on assorted drug and weapons charges. In 1982, he had to be pulled from his vehicle after driving into concrete on a freeway and rescuers found cocaine and a .45 automatic gun. He began a pattern of arrests followed by rehab, which he typically skipped out on. After walking away from rehab one time too many, Crosby was sent to Texas State Prison in Huntsville, where he was kept captive for nine months. That shock to the system resulted in Crosby turning his life around and telling all in an excellent confessional autobiography, Long Time Gone.

"When I heard William had popped the question to Kate, I had a nice cup of tea for them. Later on, I might even put some bucks fizz in my veins in their honor."The former Sex Pistol continued to explain his views on the Royal family and the class system in Britain: "When I was growing up there was a Mother Superior tone coming off the Queen and I found her to be repulsively, bitterly condescending. But I don't get that from this lot. They've mellowed that out. Charles is a really good-natured bloke who talks to plants. There's nothing wrong with that. "I've been arguing against all this silly 'us and them' thing for 40 years. We always seem to descend to the lowest common denominator. Please don't rubbish this lot with jealousy. Leave them alone. They deserve a good chance." full interview.
