Metallica Child Kicking Accident
(hennemusic) There was a shocking incident caught on tape during Metallica's November 11th show at the Acer Arena in Sydney, Australia.

It happened during the performance of "Seek And Destroy," with the house lights on and the stage filled with huge black balloons. Guitarist Kirk Hammett wandered through the crowded stage, kicking balloons at random; at one point, he unknowingly kicks a small child while following through on one of the balloons. The child is seen to be thrown backwards in the air, landing in the crowd.

Blabbermouth is reporting that the child - rumored to be Metallica frontman James Hetfield's son - was not believed to have been injured during the mishap. - more including video here

Jimmy Page Tour?
(hennemusic) "I'm desperate to be playing, but it won't be 'til next year," Jimmy Page tells Planet Rock's Liz Barnes. "I'll get a good vehicle to get out there and do some concerts."

Barnes caught up with the guitar icon at Wednesday's 2010 Classic Rock "Roll Of Honour" Awards, where Page presented "The Innovator" Award to legendary U.K. band Killing Joke.

"I got a call whether I'd like to give an award to Killing Joke. The thing is, I go back a long way with Jaz Coleman and the band," said Page. "I used to go and see the band, and it was a band that really impressed me because Geordie's (Walker) guitar sound was just really, really strong. And they were really tribal, the band, and it was really intense." - more on this story

Top Riffs of the 80s
Gibson has picked their top 10 riffs of the 80s. Here are the top three: 3. Ozzy Osbourne (featuring Randy Rhoads), "Crazy Train" In the 1980s, you couldn't throw a dead cat in a music store without hitting some kid playing this Randy Rhoads warhorse. The churning, sinister opening section hurls the song forward and creates a momentum that never lets up, even as Ozzy takes it off the rails.

2. The Rolling Stones, "Start Me Up" - Twelve years after "Honky Tonk Women," Keith Richards could still conjure an open-tuned gem like no one else. This 1981 classic is so stirring that nearly 30 years later you're still unlikely see a football stadium not use it to psych their fans up for a kickoff.

1. AC/DC, "Back in Black" - Perhaps the greatest riff-oriented album of all time is the band's 1980 farewell to dearly departed singer Bon Scott. Brothers Angus and Malcolm Young cooked up some of the greatest riffs of their career on this magnum opus (including "You Shook Me All Night Long," "Hell's Bells" and "Have a Drink on Me"), but none is more memorable than the hard and heavy title track.

Judas Priest Plan World Tour
(hennemusic) Judas Priest guitarist K.K. Downing updates fans on the band's plans for next year and reminisces about the past, via his latest blog post:

"It seems that the time has come for us to put the touring wheels in motion for our next world tour in 2011!

It's funny but these days around - about this time - I can't help but reflect on the past when we had to load the touring van ourselves. Sometimes in the ice and snow, being afraid that we would get frostbites on our fingers and not be able to play the gig! - His reflections here

Slipknot May Never Record Again
(Rock AAA) Corey Taylor says Slipknot could tour again in the future but he's not convinced they'll make any new music after the tragic death of founder Paul Gray earlier this year.

The bassist, 38, was found in a Des Moines, Iowa, hotel room after suffering an accidental overdose of prescription drugs. Slipknot immediately put all projects on hold, and since then Taylor's been working with his side-project, Stone Sour.

And he says promotion and touring duties in support of new album Audio Secrecy has kept his mind off thinking about Gray. Taylor tells Clickmusic: "Stone Sour definitely helped me, let's put it that way. We were just finishing up the album when we got the news about Paul. I was actually in Des Moines, so it was pretty brutal." - more from Corey here

David Bowie Retires
(Gibson) Waiting for David Bowie to make his triumphant return to the stage? Rolling Stone says you probably shouldn't hold your breath. It looks like the Thin White Duke has quietly retired. For real.

Rolling Stone's Andy Greene says it has been four years since Bowie last performed in public, with a three-song set at the BlackBall charity concert at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City. Green notes that Bowie's 2004 Reality tour was cut short when he suffered a heart attack, and that last year Bowie told the New York Times he had no plans to return to the stage.

Greene notes that many rock stars who have announced their retirements returned to the stage a few years later, including Bowie himself, who famously retired at the height of Ziggy Stardust mania in 1973. "The fact he's said virtually nothing this time around indicates he may well be done forever," Greene said, before cheekily adding, "…though in a few weeks the annual 'Bowie's headlining Coachella!!' rumors should once again surface." - more on this story

Free D.R.U.G.S.
(WBR) D.R.U.G.S., fronted by singer and songwriter Craig Owens, will release their debut album on Decaydance/Sire Records in early 2011. The first song "If You Think This Song Is About You, It Probably Is" is available for free download as a gift to fans on the band's Facebook page here.

After Owens left his previous band, which he had fronted since 2001, he turned his energy toward creating a new project that would eclipse anything he'd done in the past by founding D.R.U.G.S., which stands for Destroy Rebuild Until God Shows.

"Over the last 12 months I've done a lot of growing as a human being, as far as figuring out who I am," Owens says. "The idea for this band stemmed from the fact that I wanted to do this right; I wanted to make the biggest band I possibly could, and that's exactly what I've done here." - more on this story

Singled Out: Powerworld
Today Ilker Ersin from Powerworld tells us about "Evil In Me" from their brand new album "Human Parasite". Here is the story:

It was in my hometown in Bavaria, Germany. It happened during the songwriting process, middle of 2009. I was working of one of our songs of our album "Human Parasite". I needed a keyboard-part for the verse, I switched my recording system in circle mode and start to play. I played the keyboard-part and with the sound I used for it sounds a little bit strange. I copied this part in another arrangement and forgot to adjust the tempo.

Here it was, the intro for "Evil In Me". But the phrase seemed really strange to me, I grabbed my guitar and start jamming with the keyboard-part. After a while I got this, Barish (my guitarplayer) call it Randy Rhoads, guitar-riff. I got immediately the inspiration for the lyrics and the titel. I programmed the drums, played guitar, bass and keyboards and sang the guide vocal-lines for the demo. I did a mp3 and send it to Barish. This song became to one of his favorite ideas what I wrote for this album. He modified the chorus and changed the lyrics a little bit, played a big guitar-solo and brought some melody guitar lines in and a great song was born. This song is included in the audio-teaser what we have on - myspace

The Late Alex Chilton Appears on New Ray Davies Album
(Gibson) Ray Davies, whose new album See My Friends contains special contributions from artists like Billy Corgan and Bruce Springsteen, recently talked about working with Alex Chilton. The Big Star icon died earlier this year, but he recorded "Till the End of the Day" with Ray Davies before he became sick.

Speaking to ClashMusic, Ray Davies elaborates on the collaboration: "Way back in 2004 I was in New Orleans, recovering from an injury, and I was befriended by a neighbor called Alex Chilton. Alex had been in a band called Big Star, and had sung on a record called 'The Letter' by The Box Tops. We didn't talk about music much, but he did say to me before I came back to England, 'You know, I've recorded one of your songs, 'Till the End of the Day', with Big Star, and I'd love to do another song with you. And he asked me to write some songs for him – I felt really flattered, because by then I had found out about his history. A very unassuming guy."

Then, in 2009, Chilton and Davies did indeed get together to record. Davies recalls: "In 2009, on July 4th, Independence Day, he came up to Konk Studios. He was a real character – he was wearing a New Orleans beret, he had a cigarette holder, he was a chain smoker, and I think a recovering drinker – and he said, 'Let's do it!' I said, 'What would you like to do?' He said, 'Till the End of the Day' and 'Set Me Free.' So I just had an acoustic guitar and a rhythm box, because I hadn't organized anything. I played guitar and Alex sang." - more on this story

Greatest Rock Venues of All Time
(Gibson) If there's a characteristic shared by many great rock venues, it's that they're rarely about glitz, glamour, or Vegas-style flash. Oftentimes, the best venues have a raggedly dilapidated quality that feels part and parcel of rock music itself. Many great artists served apprenticeships and honed their crafts in such settings, performing on low-tiered rickety stages. With just a couple of exceptions, the legendary venues below prove that shifts in the direction of rock can sometimes occur in the unlikeliest of places.

Whisky A-Go-Go (Los Angeles, California): The L.A. rock scene was essentially born on the day the Whisky A-Go-Go opened its doors in 1964. Located on Sunset Strip, the club served as the breeding ground for such acts as Alice Cooper, Buffalo Springfield and The Doors. As its name implies, the club also spawned the relatively short-lived phenomenon of go-go dancing. The Who, Led Zeppelin, Cream, and countless other pioneering bands made their southern California debut on The Whisky's stage.

The Fillmore (San Francisco, California): No venue had a greater impact on '60s counterculture than the original Fillmore did. A focal point for the psychedelic movement, the venue achieved notoriety not just for the musicians who appeared there, but also for an ambiance built around strobe lights, light-show projections, and, of course, its famous posters. Jefferson Airplane, The Grateful Dead, Jimi Hendrix and Pink Floyd were among the notable artists who bolstered their paisley reputations by playing The Fillmore. Such diverse artists as Otis Rush, Miles Davis and Otis Redding performed there as well. - Find out the rest of the Top 10 here
