Day in Rock Report for 03/02/2010
The worst kept secret in rock and roll has been confirmed. Bassist Eric Avery has officially quit Jane's Addiction. While it has already been a forgone conclusion since January that he wanted to part ways with the band, and rumors of his replacement already making the rounds, Avery made his departure from the group official with a Twitter posting on Monday. However, one could read into that posting that the entire group has split again. On Monday, Avery posted the following on his Twitter account: "thats it. with equal parts regret and relief, the janes addiction experiment is at an end." Many have read into that posting that he was simply confirming that it was over for him, but it could also be read that it is possible that the entire band has broken up again. Perry Farrell posted this message a few hours after Avery posted his, "Slipping out of that shell of a past. Gripping; wow we're onto something faster now. And so worth the wait. It's the Art Of Great Escape." We'll have to wait and see what happens. And if they carry on, perhaps Perry was hinting at the

Official Statement From Daryl Hall And John Oates About The Passing Of Tom "T-Bone" Wolk is below. The veteran musician died of a heart attack on Saturday. He was 58 years-old. Here are the statements from his bandmates and friends:Daryl Hall: To say that I am shocked is the ultimate understatement. T-Bone was my musical brother and losing him is like losing my right hand. It's not if I will go on, but how. T-Bone was one of the most sensitive and good human beings that I have ever known. And, I can truly say that I loved him. John Oates: His character was pure and his unique and quirky personality touched everyone he encountered. His musical sensibility was peerless, any instrument that he touched resonated with a sensitivity and skill level that I have never experienced while playing with any other musician. He possessed an encyclopedic knowledge of styles and musical history which he referenced to support all the artists that he played with over the years. He became our band's musical director over time leading by example and by the deference and respect that everyone who played alongside him so rightfully accorded him. He made everyone he played with better. So many times when I'm working on a musical passage or part, I think to myself: "How would T-Bone play this" and aspire to his level every time I perform. To this day I always keep one of his "I Love Vermont" guitar picks with me where ever I go and know in my heart that starting today the Heavenly Band just got one of the greatest multi-instrumentalist of all time and that band will from this day forward sound better than they ever have before.

(Nightwatcher) Slash reckons UK music is "tame, predictable and faceless". The legendary former Guns 'N' Roses guitarist admitted he is "down on music in general right now" and said that the UK is lacking any bona fide rock legends in the making. When asked if he feels the UK should have more rock stars on Wednesday (02.24.10), he said: "It's lacking there. I mean you've got the Gallagher brothers(Oasis) but they've been around forever. It's gotten sort of tame predicable and faceless." He did, however, add he didn't want to single the UK out, and that music across the world is undergoing a hard time, though he remains positive it will soon pass.

Welcome to Singled Out! where we ask artists to tell us the inside story of their latest single. Today Social Code frontman Travis Nesbitt tells us about " Satisfied" from their brand new album, "Rock 'n' Roll," which hits stores on March 23rd (but you can get this song now!). We now turn it over to Travis for the story:I guess the basic inspiration came from years and years of playing in a band. You meet all kinds of great and interesting people from all walks of life. You meet the guy in the bar that loves the band and wants to sing you his song he wrote in his room the other night. He sings a few verses and chorus' only to stop and ask you what you think about it. "Do you think I have what it takes?" he asks. You meet the nervous girl that asks to take a picture with her and everyone. After we all get arm-in-arm with our best "cheeeese" smiles on our faces, the equally nervous friend sheepishly says, "oops, the batteries are dead." A bit anti-climatic, but good times nonetheless. You meet the people who want to come on the bus just to be on the bus and drink everything in sight, or the ones that want nothing more to come back stage only to see 5 guys sitting on their laptops. Hey, you can't party every night! You meet lots of people that want to be close to you to share their love of Rock 'N' Roll the best way they know how. That's the greatest thing about music, everyone sees it from a different perspective. Everyone has different eyes and different motives. Like meeting the girl that breaks all the traditional rules of engagement, the one that ignores the "I'll shoot you eyes from across the room--you come and offer to buy me a drink" standard pick-up approach. She's the one that wants to get with the band so much it doesn't matter whether you're the guitar player, drummer or driver of the bus. She's that one gorgeous girl in the room that's a bit slutty and trashy, but somehow gets away without looking like a trashy slut, if that's even possible. That's simply what "Satisfied" is about. A simple rock song about a girl that knows just how to get what she wants. We really focused this record to be simple and honest. Not writing about things we think people wanna hear, but rather about things that we wanted to write. Reality. Who we are. Although "Satisfied" is who we are, for some of us in the band more than others, it is a part of Rock 'N' Roll. It has always been a part of Rock 'N' Roll and will always be a part of Rock 'N' Roll. I could go on and on trying to fill this page with inner meanings and metaphors, but that's not what this song is about. The song is written from the perspective of a rock band about Rock 'N' Roll and that's what we love. Long live it! Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself and learn more about the album

Experimental music pioneers Amon Duul 2, whose music defined the German progressive rock scene of the 1970's, are back with a new album Bee As Such. Currently only available by download through the band's website, the CD marks the first new album by the legendary group in several years. Amon Duul 2 reveal on their website: "Recorded April 2009 at Dreamscape Studio, Amon Duul 2 celebrated a highly sensitive performance, of finding back to the roots - not in the past, but essentially - seeking the new sounds and contents at the same time. No 'kraut', no '70s', but the music of the new millenium. This sound painting is one more of our unique works, containing the spirit of our time." "Amon Duul never used to present the same style on their albums," explains guitarist John Weinzierl "We like to develop our music into all kinds of directions and sometimes we don´t even know where it´s gonna lead us. We don´t follow a pattern only because it is successful. Since 2000 we´ve used lots of elements of world music, we had eastern influences, ethnological sounds, and of course we never forgot `sound painting´." When asked if there was a concept behind this new album? Weinzierl expounded, "Avoiding industry music, heading for new frontiers." Formed in Munich in 1968, Amon Duul 2 rapidly excelled to the forefront of German avant garde music along side notable peers Can, Faust and Tangerine Dream. Amon Duul 2 quickly distinguished themselves from these other ensembles with their use of pop elements interspersed with eclectic songwriting and arrangements along with deft musicianship and the sweet voice of female vocalist Renate Knaup-Krotenschwanz. The band's influences ranged from jazz and classical to Zappa and Syd's Pink Floyd, although the music has remained so original these past 30 years it's difficult to tell who the band's influences are! "That's because Germany culture-wise has no rhythm and blues influence," explains Renate. "We have classical music and traditional music, so we just experimented with what we had. To copy rhythm and blues or rock and roll would be silly because they are not our roots." By 1979 and many critically acclaimed, pioneering LPs later, Amon Duul 2 went their separate ways, only to reunite in the 1990s, and most recently in the mid-2000s. The current line-up includes original members: Chris Karrer (guitar, violin, vocals), John Weinzierl (guitars, synth, vocals), Renate Knaup-Krotenschwanz (vocals), Danny Fichelscher (drums), Lother Meid (bass, vocals) and neo-Duul Jan Kahlert (percussion, vocals).

Swedish satanic death metallers Aeon have completed the work on their new album Path Of Fire!Path Of Fire was recorded at the Empire Studio in Östersund, Sweden in September 2009 and mixed at Mana Studios in St. Petersburg, Florida by Erik Rutan in October 2009. Some minor changes were made in January 2010. The mastering was done by Alan Douches for West West Side Music in New York. All artwork and layout made by Daniel Dlimi. Comments the band: "We are happy to announce the album is finished by now. Path of Fire is probably the most intense Aeon album up to date. And with a production that sounds more organic and "classic deathmetal" rather than the nowadays typical "supermodern, compressed right-the-f***-out of dynamics, loudness war" production, you are all in for a real treat. Folks, this IS death metal! Needless to say, we are really happy with how the album turned out and we can't wait for you to get a chance to listen to it."
