(Rock Radio) Ozzy Osbourne is back in the saddle after a year out and has no intention of quitting anytime soon [because it might kill him?]He tells Jam: "Sharon gave me the year off and when I retired before, you've got to have something to retire to. You can't just go, 'I'm wealthy, I've got a house here, and a house there, and a car here, and a car there.' And you drive around the house and you drive around the streets, you drive around a few things, and then what? "One thing I learned was you've got to have something to retire to. My father got early retirement, he died a year after. The routine that we build ourselves into is our mechanism, and once you throw a spanner in the works, you throw it off."

Blood for Blood has agreed to join the Persistence Tour in Europe sharing a stage with long time friends Sick of it All as well as other acts soon to be announced. Therefore, we were left with no other choice but to find someone else to fill in for his BFB responsibilities. Now, let's make this perfectly clear: we have no ill will towards Rob whatsoever. We wish him well and Blood for Blood will always be open to him.

Welcome to Singled Out! where we ask artists to tell us the inside story of their latest single. Today Chambers frontman Dan Pelic tells us about "Ripper" from their brand new album "Old Love," which hits stores tomorrow. We now turn it over to Dan for the story:"Ripper" is one of the few songs on the album where the lyrics were written AFTER the rest of the music. I usually adapt my scratch lyrics and poems to fit over the music. On "Ripper," however, I wrote the chorus lyrics while visiting some friends in upstate New York and later improvised the verses my first practice back with the band. I usually hate writing lyrics "on the spot" and feel it usually compromises my creativity in lyricism, but it worked in this instance. "Ripper" is a term I picked up back in New Brunswick from some of the older dudes around town. In a nutshell, it's a person who parties hard, lives passionately, and doesn't let the bastards grind them down. The lyrics are about how I'm hated as much as I'm loved. I have a pretty strong personality and it's not for everyone. I've stepped on a lot of toes getting to where I needed to go. The song is also about how I simply can't be bothered with people that don't "get" me. I sometimes feel like I don't truly belong anywhere, but I'm fine with it because I like who I am. This is referenced in the chorus lyric, "It goes to show I come from a place nobody really knows and I don't care if I have to always call my home nowhere." Furthermore, it's about not accommodating others when it compromises one being oneself and thereby coming off as abrasive and arrogant. The lyric, "I'm piss poor at consideration and expert at ego masturbation," is a tongue-in-cheek play on that concept as if I myself am intentionally being inconsiderate by being myself in order to stroke my ego! I guess the ultimate point of the song is to be an anthem for those who have been ostracized for being different but shrug it off and usually have more fun than their critics. Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself and learn more about the album

Bloodyminded's out of print 2006 album, Magnetism, is getting the reissue treatment via BloodLust! Surprisingly released little more than a year after their previous full-length, "Gift Givers" [B!045, 2005], this album demonstrated a disturbingly updated approach to the band's sound. It is comprised of fifteen feedback-drenched tracks -- ten of which are relatively full-length songs and five of which are the band's trademark blast songs, although track length lines may be a bit blurred in the greater context of the album. Some listeners might equate the sound of "Magnetism" to the band's often urgent and turbulent live sound -- certainly more so now, as the group has focused on several of these songs in the live setting over the past four years.

Steve Vai has a digital ocean of snippets in various degrees of completion. Some are leftovers from assorted sessions, projects that were never completed, soundcheck jams, or songs that were specific to a particular venture. "There are enough lonely, unreleased notes in my world to fill an infinity shelf," says Vai. In between composing new scores for his upcoming performance with the North Netherlands Symphony Orchestra, Vai has transformed these snippets into full, lush songs and these rarities are being released as a series of single digital downloads called VaiTunes. Each release comes with a PDF booklet containing detailed notes about the creation of the song, the story behind the recording, and gear involved. The latest release from the series, "The Moon and I" evolved from a soundcheck jam in Athens, Greece in the spring of 2000.

Balfor have release the tracklisting of their upcoming Pulverised debut Barbaric Blood, which will be released later this year. Comments Balfor frontman/guitarist Thorgeir of the cover: "It's always a long journey making an album. First it has to be written and rehearsed. Then it has to be recorded and mastered, and that's where most people think it ends. But it doesn't quite end there. An important factor that everyone forgets about is the artwork, and yet this is often what people notice first. So we are particularly pleased that the artwork for Barbaric Blood has been so well executed by Martin of Spina Studio. He has captured both the concept behind the album, and the band itself." Designed by Martin Saavedra at Uruguay's Spina Studio (Aborted, Daath, Divinity etc.), the cover art at once dark, brooding and apocalyptic.
