Welcome to Singled Out! where we ask artists to tell us the inside story of their latest single. Today We Are Scientist frontman Keith Murray tells us about "Rules Don't Stop" from their brand new album "Barbara," which hit stores today. We now turn it over to Keith for the story:This was the first song to be written for "Barbara," and it set the tone in a very, very literal way. Well aware that popular culture was beginning to move away from guitar bands, I knew that, if I wanted to keep buying boats and houses and purses full of money (again: what I'm buying with my money are things like purses full of new money), I'd need to find ways to make the guitar, that most loathed of instruments, sound more interesting. Before I'd even begun writing the song, I'd found the guitar tone the eerie, reverb-drenched, organ-like sound that features in the intro. Nobody can argue that the organ is overused in contemporary rock music, and, even if they tried to do so, I'd just throw my drink in their face and walk away. Anyway, smart guy, this is a guitar that sounds like an organ, and I defy you to cite other examples of that. And, even if you could cite some other examples, I'd just buy a new drink and throw it in your face, because that's just ridiculous, smart guy. Really. I realize that it seems coy to not go over the specifics of how I devised my guitar tone what pedals I've used, and on what settings but, really, I would simply be giving away my trade secrets. Like I said, I've got to worry about funding my addiction to boats and full money-purses and stuffed fox-heads. I may not have mentioned the stuffed fox-heads before. Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself and check out the video

Tony Conley of Rock Guitar Daily has a great new interview with Glenn Hughes about the Black Country Communion supergroup which also features Joe Bonamassa, Jason Bonham, and Derek Sherinian. Here is a small excerpt from the article: "We're getting on famously," says the legendary Glenn Hughes, speaking from his Southern California home, waiting to begin a two month extended press tour that will see the singer/bassist chatting up journalists across the globe in expectation of the September 21st release of Black Country Communion, the new super-group's first record. Hughes continues, "All that crap you saw on the internet about two months ago was something so silly. And let me tell you, it smacks of very early Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young, or The Black Crowes, what with all the in-fighting. 'They're fighting!' Well, that sells magazines....I've gone through that my whole career, 'Is he too heavy, is he on crack, is he gonna jump off the building naked?' It's all the controversial stuff, I'm not mad that they put that out, it does sell magazines - rock and roll is not always pretty and sweet. Let's just say that at the time there were too many cooks in the kitchen. Look....J and R Adventures (Bonamassa's management company) is gonna run this, and I certainly don't mind, they've done a great job for Joe. J and R, my manager, and I, we're all on the same page." Glenn goes on, "You need to know this, Tony. Everybody's great pals, everybody loves each other, and we're just dying for the next thing. I'm going to be everywhere, talking up a storm, and the most important thing is that on September 21 this thing is gonna jump out."

Welcome to Singled Out! where we ask artists to tell us the inside story of their latest single. Today Seabird lead singer Aaron Morgan tells us about "Don't You Know You're Beautiful" from their new album "Rocks Into Rivers". We now turn it over to for the story:The song is actually quite old, maybe 4-5 years. It never made it on the first record because I wasn't satisfied with the lyrics. The idea of the intro was to incorporate something that sounded like laughing, but the lyric that made that part make any sense at all was later removed. I wound up using a similar lyric at the beginning of the 2nd verse to be able to use the "ah ah ah ah ah ah" in it's original context, "ah ah ah ah ah I see you laughing, but I know inside that you're crying.'" It can be really hard to totally scrap a lyric and start from scratch especially if you're emotionally attached to the story. In this case I knew the hook was good enough to keep but the story needed to be stronger, something that people could actually relate to. For some reason, I wanted to tell the story of a family torn apart by divorce. And more specifically the affect it has on the children. Many kids aren't able to come to terms with their parents decision to separate or even blame themselves for the divorce. These kids need hope, and need someone to believe in them. Someone to remind them they genuinely are beautiful and worth fighting for. I never want our listeners to be left empty handed after listening to one of our songs. Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself and check out the video

Antagonist has completed work on their forthcoming album which they are going to call "World In Decline". The band recorded the effort at Buzzbomb Studios in Orange, CA with producer Paul Miner (Terror, Thrice, Throwdown). Singer/guitarist Carlos Garcia commented on the forthcoming album: "We've just wrapped up the making of our new album with Paul Miner. We're super stoked on the finished product, and we hope everyone will feel the same! Paul was amazing to work with, he was very encouraging and super patient with us, and we're eternally grateful for that. And of course, he knows his way around the console. This is honestly the first album we've done that is an accurate representation of Antagonist's live sound, and it definitely showcases a more refined, aggressive sound. We're taking it back to the old school!" Garcia also commented on the overall sound of "World In Decline;" "'Exist' had a hopeful message of working together as humans towards a better future. The new album is about the realization that things will always be f**ked up, people will always be selfish, and this world is going to end at any minute, and we have nobody to blame but ourselves. People grow older and figure out that life doesn't get any easier and that our own selfishness, carelessness, and ignorance are at the core of our demise. So right now, that's where our heads are at, which will in turn no doubt lead to a much more aggressive and angry album. "

Only Gwar could take on hippies and Margaret Cho while threatening to nasally violate Jay-Z and the entire Dave Matthews Band. What in the hell is this all about? Read on: This past weekend saw GWAR descend upon the traditionally hippy--fied Bonnaroo music festival to play a late-night Saturday set in front of 15,000 screaming fans. It was good enough to garner the band SPIN Online's award for both best and worst act on the third day of the popular, drug-soaked music and art spectacle. "A lot of people were very surprised to see us on the Bonnaroo stage", said lead front-thing Oderus Urungus. "But the more traditionally heavy festivals, such as Ozzfest or Warped, who claim to support underground and heavy music, have consistently denied GWAR, the heaviest underground band EVER! And what's even more ironic is that it took a bunch of tree-hugging hippies to give GWAR their biggest and best gig to date in the U.S. And that's after years of killing them onstage. Thank you, hippies!" The band had publicly pledged to nasally violate the entire Dave Matthews Band, then had expanded the threat to include Jay-Z, because "his nostrils are bigger". But it was actually comedian Margaret Cho who became the sexual play-thing to the band. To the chant of "Cho is a ho," the miniature Asian person took the stage during the bands encore and allowed Oderus to "f**k her face off".
