We received an announcement about the new band founded by System of a Down and The Apex Theory star Ontronik. Here is what we were sent over:KillMatriarch is a creative collective of producers and songwriters formed in early 2010 by Ontronik (Former vocalist of The Apex Theory & Drummer of System of a Down), Matriarch, and Drew K.. This trio has set out to make what they call "movies for the ears". The concept of the band includes the freedom to express ones darker and powerful sides. A vision that also includes seeing different aspects of ones being constantly at war within, but where the physical body ceases to die; immortality. With the trio constructing their onslaught of vaguely familiar yet freshly adrenalized musical palette, KillMatriarch is on its way to joining the list of bands who have written from a true source of inspiration without giving up integrity.

We told you about this in yesterday's digest but here is more details about Rush's inclusion in the upcoming Guitar Hero: Rush have joined together with Activision Publishing, Inc.'s Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock to bring their seven-part suite from their classic 2112 album to the game's all-new, story-based Quest Mode this September. For the first time ever, Guitar Hero fans will embark on an epic voyage playing as eight Guitar Hero characters that transform into rock warriors who must join together to use their unique, game-changing powers to help the Demi-God of Rock take down "The Beast" to save rock. "The music, the story and the journey of 2112 lends itself perfectly to the quest in Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock," said Geddy Lee of Rush. "In our story, the caves of 2112 are where our hero finds the lost guitar and this rediscovery of music is much like the Guitar Hero warriors' journey to find the Demi-God of Rock's Legendary guitar, which has been trapped in a cavern." "I love the idea of Guitar Hero; they have combined two great things music and fun," said Alex Lifeson of Rush. "I think it's a great way to introduce people of all ages to music of various styles by all kinds of different bands, while providing a launching pad for kids who want to get into playing music."

Director Oren Moverman has promised that his new Kurt Cobain biopic will be "raw and chaotic, which is what Cobain's life was like."Although 2007 Bob Dylan biopic, I'm Not There (which Moverman co-wrote with director Todd Haynes), took artistic license with its portrayal of its subject, the Cobain film will be more mainstream in style. Moverman explained to The Guardian that, "It'll take you from A to Z. People know the shortcut version he took a lot of heroin, wrote 'Smells Like Teen Spirit,' became the biggest rock star in the world and killed himself. Those known things about him are to me the least interesting."

Rik Emmett tells Gibson.com in a new interview that he turned down high profile bands and found solo success by doing things all on his own. Here is that part of the interview: I look back over my career and, after I left Triumph, there were some offers that came by from time to time. Tom Scholz was looking for someone to sing for them on a Boston tour. When the Damn Yankees were starting up and I was talking on the phone with Jack Blades, I got a call to become the guitar player and singer on an Asia tour. Those kinds of things I turned down. I'm sure they would have been nice opportunities and they might have led to something, but I didn't want to just end up in another band....I think I got to a point in my life around 1995 or '96 where there was just no record company on the Planet Earth that was interested in a guy my age that had made the music that I'd made, had the track record that I had, because there's been such a huge change that had happened in the industry. At that point, I said that if I wanted to keep playing, then why don't I just make my own record. And I think that was a really big moment for me in my life. You know, you don't think of it as a big moment when it's happening. It just seemed like it was the only logical and natural thing to do. I bought myself a little digital board, set up a little studio with a computer in my basement, thought, "You know what? I've always wanted to make a finger-style nylon-string guitar record. That's what I'll do! Little classical pieces. I'll start there, start a little record label, put it out on my own and see what happens." I made all my money back on that album in the first three weeks. How expensive is it to record your own little classical guitar record? It was pretty cheap and simple. So after that I thought, "Gee, I'd always wanted to make an arch-top blues swing record, I think I'll do that next. Oh, geez, I've always wanted to make a real hard-rocking kind of blues record or a more pure kind of blues record." In the first two or three years, I put out this trilogy of stuff that
I'd always saw it, like in the process I was going through at the time, I'd just write whatever I felt like and record whatever I felt like, then I'd figure out how to put this onto an album and make it a sort-of boutique marketable something or other. Those were the first three formatted piles that I came up with. One of them would be in an acoustic finger style. One of them would have been sort-of swing arch-top-ish kinds of things. And the third one was sort of an electric blues and bluesy-based kinds of things.

Welcome to Singled Out! where we ask artists to tell us the inside story of their latest single. Today Ernie Halter tells us about "Angel" from his album "Franklin & Vermont". We now turn it over to Ernie for the story:Last year, I was heading out for a month long tour and my car died in the middle of rural Kansas. There was a girl I had met in Indiana a few months earlier, and we'd only met once briefly, but had become friends long distance. Soon we were talking and texting daily, and when my car broke down, she reached out to me and offered me her car as long as I needed. I'd never met anyone so selfless in my life. I was reluctant to accept help, but was in need, and eventually said yes. I wrote her this song to say thank you. She later moved to California, where we live together, and I feel happier and more at peace than I've ever been. Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself and learn more about the album

Mansons Guitar Shop has launched a John Paul Jones Signature Bass. Here is the announcement: Whether looking forward as the bassist in Them Crooked Vultures laying down a groove with Dave Grohl and Joshua Homme, or to the past as the iconic legend, riff-master and songwriter in Led Zeppelin, John Paul Jones has a bass pedigree second to none. John has been performing with a vast collection of Manson Guitars creations for the past three decades both in the studio and for live work, including the historic Led Zeppelin reunion and also conquering the world all over again with Them Crooked Vultures. Now, after many years of refining, researching and testing, the legendary performer has placed his name to the main four-string Manson bass guitar that has been regularly seen in action across John's projects for the past 16 years. The Manson John Paul Jones E-Bass model is a replica of the bass that Hugh Manson made in the early 90s and has become John's first call four-string ever since. Featuring a maple through-neck construction, figured maple top, Aged Cherry Sunburst high gloss lacquer, ebony fingerboard, EMG pickups and active circuit, Hipshot D-Tuner, Schaller machineheads and Badass bridge, the specs reflect exactly the current upgraded hardware of the bass John is currently using on tour with Them Crooked Vultures.
