AC/DC Rule The World
Long ago AC/DC's Bon Scott sang "it's a long way to the top if you wanna rock and roll." Bon would be proud because not only has AC/DC reached the top, they continue to stay well ahead of every other band. Michael Wright of Gibson.com has the details: Gross has sorted and ranked the world's biggest tours over the last six months (compiled by Boxscores) and the results show the final leg of AC/DC's nigh interminable Black Ice Tour more than doubling the closest competition in dollars and total attendance.

In the period from November 28, 2009 through June 19, 2010, AC/DC grossed more than $118 million and played to nearly 1.1 million fans. Bon Jovi came in second, grossing just less than $52 million. Metal symphony sensation Trans-Siberian Orchestra ranked third, with more than $47 million.

Metallica and Taylor Swift finished out the top five, each hovering at just less than $40 million. Other rock acts include The Eagles at #8, Nickelback at #11, Depeche Mode at #12, John Mayer at #16, Guns N' Roses at #17, Elton John and Billy Joel at #20, KISS at #21 and Muse at #23. - more on this story

Roxy Music Reunite for Tour
It's been a great couple weeks for Roxy Music fans. Last week we learned the details of Bryan Ferry's upcoming solo album and now we learn that Roxy Music will be touring the U.K. for the first time in nearly a decade.

Michael Wright of Gibson.com reports: Though the band will not be joined by Brian Eno, who played keyboards for the band in the early '70s, the touring lineup will feature frontman Bryan Ferry, along with multi-instrumentalist Andy Mackay, guitarist Phil Manzanera and drummer Paul Thompson.

The band will be coming off a summer tour, which has, thus far, taken them to Finland, Spain and Switzerland. The seven-date, Four Your Pleasure U.K. tour dates can be found

The Story Behind Smoke On Water
Instead of a Singled Out today we decided to feature Gibson.com's great new interview with Claude Nobs where we learn what inspired the Deep Purple classic "Smoke On Water". Here is that part of the feature: Claude Nobs founded the Montreux Jazz Festival, which is still held annually deep among the snow-capped mountains of his hometown. The festival has become internationally beloved and is now, in its 44th year, running through this Saturday along the shore of Lake Geneva.

A handsome, bespectacled 74-year-old with a wide smile, Nobs remains the driving force behind the festival and a faithful music fan, enthusing about both modern artists ("Joe Bonamassa is one of the most amazing guitar players I've heard in a long time") and classic rock acts like The Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd and his old pals Deep Purple, who alluded to Nobs with a "Smoke On The Water" lyric: "Funky Claude was running in and out / Pulling kids out the ground."

Nobs vividly remembers the day the fire began at the Frank Zappa concert he had organized. Deep Purple had come to town to record their next album at the Montreux Casino. Staying in a hotel across the water from the venue, the band watched in horror as it caught fire and burned to the ground after a Zappa fan fired a flare gun into its opulent ceiling. Nobs not only rescued concertgoers from the blaze, but also helped Deep Purple regroup afterwards, offering them a new place to record and informing what would become their biggest hit. From the side stage of most every Montreux concert of note, he has changed the course of rock and roll. As he himself says, "I wanted to be a guitar player, but I found out very quickly I was not good enough for it. So I said, 'Maybe I can do a festival. I can do something more interesting for the crowd than try to be a guitar player.'" - There is a lot more here

Honor Bright Streaming New Album, Announce 8 Release Shows
Honor Bright is currently streaming their new album 'Action! Drama! Suspense!' online. To celebrate the release of the album, the band will also be playing a series of 8 special CD release shows on the East Coast

The full-length, produced by former A Day To Remember guitarist Tom Denney and Go Radio front man Jason Lancaster (ex‐Mayday Parade), is set for release this Tuesday, July 20th on Triple Crown Records (Brand New, Hit The Lights). Listen to it here

Honor Bright ‐ who've drawn comparisons to bands like Taking Back Sunday, Mayday Parade, and All Time Low ‐ began in 2006, following a short‐lived hardcore stint between founding front man Liam DiCosimo and guitarist/vocalist Tim Paige. "We didn't want to just call it quits, so we decided we were going to start playing the kind of music we grew up listening to, like Green Day and MXPX. Something closer to a pop‐punk sound," explains DiCosimo. "But, because we all came from rock & roll and hardcore bands, we wanted to still have that rock edge to it." By the close of 2006, bassist Anthony Merritt, drummer Curt Henry, and guitarist Ryan Gilmore joined the fold, solidifying the band's lineup. - more on this story

Stripmall Architecture iPhone 4 Trade In Program
We received this announcement and just couldn't resist: So you're one of those who couldn't wait to grip the new iPhone before the second generation came out (ignoring Apple's general track record of not getting it right until G2 or later), and now you have a semi-functioning smartphone... with the possibility of getting a case, so your semi-functioning smartphone won't break any further. How? Simply contact us at altruism@stripmallarchitecture.com with the subject line "PLEASE, SMA, TAKE MY PHONE BEFORE I HURT SOMEONE."
