Wendy Dio, wife and manger to metal legend Ronnie James Dio, issued an update to fans last week about Ronnie's cancer battle. A reader pointed out that we missed this update, so we apologize and offer it to you now. Here is what Wendy had to say: After a few hiccups between Christmas and New Year's, such as a blood clot, a trip to the emergency room, and a three day stay at the hospital, we had a quiet holiday spent with family and close friends. Ronnie and I just returned from Houston, where Ronnie had his third chemo treatment, and all seems to be going well. Ronnie and Simon Wright went to see Avatar, which he thought was amazing! He has also been writing more chapters for his book. While at M.D. Anderson Cancer Centre on his second trip, he met a DIO fan named Carmen who has been having treatment every other day for a year, and is eagerly awaiting a bone marrow transplant. Ronnie and Carmen have become fast friends. Carmen is a very positive happy person whose existence, like Ronnie's, depends heavily on music and sports. On the third trip, we also met his mom and sister, whose total support is so important to all cancer patients. They have become part of our family as well.

With what would have been Michael Hutchence's 50th birthday coming up this Friday, January 22nd, INXS has released the statements in celebration of their brother. From Andrew Farriss: Michael ( Hutch ). Michael and I met as school friends in Sydney around 1972. Firstly he was a good mate - sincere and yet funny too. After three years of loyal patience, Andrew W.K. fans can finally experience the 'lost' third album from the established party rocker. Previously released in Japan and Korea in 2006, Close Calls With Brick Walls will officially become available in the United States on February 23, 2010, being released by Steev Mike, as a special two album package (the original Close Calls With Brick Walls on one disc, and an additional CD called Mother Of Mankind, containing rare and unreleased material). After the recent release of 55 Cadillac - a compilation of improvised solo piano compositions - Close Calls With Brick Walls and Mother Of Mankind deliver the slamming, inspirational music for which Andrew W.K. is loved, coupled with new sounds and feelings rarely associated with his traditional work. Close Calls With Brick Walls was recorded in multiple sessions throughout 2004 and 2005, using the full Andrew W.K. touring band for the first time. With a full instrumental band, the new album includes exciting new performances, styles, and rhythms. The lyrics are more complex although still very playful, and Andrew's voice has grown into something much more distinct and expressive.

This March sees EMI Records release Paul McCartney's Golden Globe nominated track '(I Want To) Come Home', taken from the forthcoming Miramax film 'Everybody's Fine' starring Robert De Niro, Drew Barrymore and Kate Beckinsale. Paul specially wrote and recorded the track after being asked to by director Kirk Jones and seeing an early screening. The film ends with '(I Want To) Come Home' starting up before the final credits and providing the perfect backdrop to a film that explores many different areas of family life and relationships. 'Everybody's Fine', which opens in the UK on 26th February, is about a widower (De Niro) embarking on a road trip to catch up with his grown up children and their lives in order to complete one simple mission - to get his family all together round the same table for Christmas. His kids are forever telling him that they are all fine, but he soon discovers it's not quite the case. Talking about relating to the film Paul said, "I could definitely identify with Robert De Niro's character because I have grown-up kids who have their own families." The track opens with just Paul at the piano, intimately singing lyrics that fit De Niro's character; 'For so long I was out in the cold and I taught myself to believe every story I told', before he's joined by strings and the track starts to build. Paul collaborated on the orchestrations with composer Dario Marianelli and the results are spectacular.

Christine Ohlman, a.k.a. "The Beehive Queen," whose "day job" is that of the flashy, gritty long-time featured vocalist with the Saturday Night Live Band, has completed her first new album in five years, The Deep End, to be released by the Horizon Music Group through Selct-O-Hits on April 6, 2010. Having won the respect of many fellow artists over the years, Ohlman recruited a stellar group of them to contribute to the new CD, including Marshall Crenshaw, Dion DiMucci and Ian Hunter as duet partners, as well as an all-star list of accompanists: G.E. Smith, Eric "Roscoe" Ambel from the Del-Lords, NRBQ veteran Big Al Anderson, Catherine Russell, the Asbury Juke Horns (Chris Anderson and Neal Pawley) and more.Working in a swampy, guitar-driven style of contemporary rock/R&B, Ohlman and The Deep End co-producer Andy York (John Mellencamp) crafted 15 songs of life and love tempered by loss. It is Ohlman's first album of new work since 2004; her recording hiatus followed the deaths of both long-time producer and mate Doc Cavalier and guitarist and founding member of Ohlman's Rebel Montez band, Eric Fletcher. (The band presently includes Michael Colbath, bass; Cliff Goodwin, guitar; and Larry Donahue, drums.)
