Red Sparowes Preview New Album Online
Red Sparowes offers a preview of song snippets from its forthcoming epic, heavy and sprawling third album in a video trailer posted today.

The disc, titled The Fear Is Excruciating, But Therein Lies The Answer will be released via Sargent House on April 6th, 2010. See The band plans to announce spring headlining tour dates in the coming weeks.

There has never been as pronounced of a leap in style and scope as with Red Sparowes' latest offering. The Fear is Excruciating, But Therein Lies the Answer maintains their layered arrangements and swirling amplified crescendos, Americana noir soundscapes (punctuated by the extended pedal steel on "In Every Mind"), and gloriously triumphant melodies ("Giving Birth to Imagined Saviors"). Earlier records focused on the larger scope of the album, but the new album is song-centered, with the individual tracks harboring stronger independent identities. And where previous endeavors found the band propelled by enormous walls of sound, they now temper their monolithic progressions with distinct passages of separated and soft-spoken instrumentation. Red Sparowes were suspiciously absent from the playing field over the last three years, and now it's apparent that they were busy drafting the grandest statement and finest achievement of their existence. - more on this story

Georgie James' Laura Burhenn Returns With The Mynabird
Drawing upon the gospel, old soul, and rock n roll records that she grew up with, Laura Burhenn will unveil What We Lose In The Fire We Gain In The Flood (April 27, Saddle Creek), her debut album as The Mynabirds.

Despite her small size and the clean sound found in her work with Georgie James, Burhenn shells out an enormously rich and husky voice on her new album. Her vocals color the vivid imagery of her lyrics, many of which were inspired by a Zen look at ideas of loss and recovery. Whether upbeat or introspective, Burhenn remains soulful and honest at her core. She simultaneously harnesses the charm of contemporaries Cat Power and Feist, as well as the fervor and magnitude of iconic influences Nina Simone and Grace Slick.

Following the breakup of DC duo Georgie James, Burhenn turned inward and truly found her voice. In the spring of 2009, she crafted a new batch of songs and enlisted singer-songwriter/producer Richard Swift to help the material come to life in the studio. The Mynabirds, inspired by the name of a forgotten Motown Records band that included Rick James and Neil Young, is the project that emerged from these sessions. - more on this story

Aereogramme Spawns The Unwinding Hours
The Unwinding Hours self-titled debut will be released on March 16, 2010. The Unwinding Hours is the new musical project from Craig B and Iain Cook, former members of Glasgow's critically acclaimed and much-loved Aereogramme.

Their debut self-titled album is an intensely rewarding experience with the literate flair of the song-writing effortlessly matched by Craig and Iain's musical ambition & creative scope. Avid cineastes, The Unwinding Hours acknowledge the influence of film on their work by taking their name from a reference buried deep within Stanley Kubrick's "The Shining".

The Unwinding Hours started out as a means for Craig to record some of his songs with the help of Iain after the demise of Aereogramme, but with no plans for a commercial release or to play them live. As Iain grew more excited about the material, The Unwinding Hours became a collaborative project, with a very different character to the material they recorded as part of Aereogramme. The album was written and recorded throughout 2008 and 2009, in Iain's own Alucard Studios on the south side of Glasgow (only the drums were recorded elsewhere, by Paul Savage in Chemikal Underground's Chem19). - more on this story

Expatriate Set Release
Australian 4 piece Expatriate finally release their debut album 'In the Midst of This' on 1st March 2010 as well as the first single 'Blackbird' off the record on the same day. Recorded in Seattle USA with producer John Goodmanson (Death Cab For Cutie, Hot Hot Heat, Wu-Tang Clan), 'In The Midst Of This', is awash with big, powerful songs, sonorous melodies, lashing grooves and soaring, aggressive soundscapes.

As lead singer Ben puts it, "We wanted to marry our raw performance as a live band with our ability to amass layers of sound through our tinkering with technology and general studio knowledge; John (Goodmanson) was a great facilitator for bringing out the guitars, drums and volume".

No strangers to moving around, having chosen their band name due to two of the four band members spending their childhoods as expatriates – growing up in a foreign culture, and countries far away from home. Following their recent signing to [PIAS] International, the band relocated to Berlin in Germany to begin their European assault. Starting as they intend to carry on, with appearances at German mega-festivals Rock Am Ring/Rock Im Parc as well as performances at Nova Rock in Austria, Rockwave in Greece, Arras in France, Werchter and Pukkelpop in Belgium, Moon & Stars in Switzerland and Sziget in Hungary. Expatriate's year of change will be spectacularly rounded off as support on Placebo's European Winter arena tour before embarking on their first UK dates in the new year. - more on this story
