Day in Rock 2010 Rewind: Top Stories From July

We continue our look back at the top stories of 2010. Today we flashback to July

The Kinks Vs Van Halen
Classic Rock had this report that we just couldn't pass up: It's taken him more than 30 years, but the The Kinks' Dave Davies has finally offered his opinion on Van Halen's cover of You Really Got Me. His verdict? "I'm sure Eddie Van Halen played better when he was drunk."

Classic Rock's Rob Hughes met up with Davies last week and they got talking about Van Halen's 1978 cover of The Kinks classic.

Davies didn't seem overly impressed by the VH version. Here's what he had to say: "Van Halen's version was very Middle America. It was like, 'Hey man, look at me with my tight trousers! Here's our version of You Really Got Me!'" - He's not done, plus it ends on a rather comical note here

Bret Michaels Pot Bus Bust
Bret Michaels is used to gaining headlines these days, but we can bet that the last one he would want to see is that police found drugs one of his tour buses. Michaels tour buses were pulled over on Wednesday night in DeKalb County, Indiana and the police found marijuana and unidentified controlled substances while searching the vehicles.

SleazeRoxx reports: "According to the DeKalb County Sheriff's Department, around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday, deputies pulled over two tour buses near the 137 mile marker on Interstate 69 near the Ashley exit.

"After getting license and registration information from the drivers, trained Narcotics Detection K9s found marijuana on both of the buses, as well as a quantity of Schedule II controlled substances on the first bus. Deputies then learned Bret Michaels was onboard the second bus during the traffic stop. Charges will be forwarded to the DeKalb County Prosecutor's Office for review." more

The Toronto Sun reports that Michaels' publicist says, "No arrests were made. Mr. Michaels allowed an open search of the buses and everything was handled in a professional manner." - more on this story

Aerosmith's Joe Perry in Motorcycle Accident
Bryan Wawzenek at Gibson.com reports that Aerosmith lead guitarist Joe Perry was involved in a motorcycle accident in Middleborough, Massachusetts, according to The Boston Globe.

The police have said Perry was the driver of a motorcycle that was struck by a sedan. It has not been reported if Perry's vehicle was stopped or in motion at the time, although he was identified as the victim of the incident by the police.

He was taken to Morton Hospital and Medical Center in Taunton, Massachusetts, where he was admitted under his birth name – Anthony Perry. He was treated and released -

Rob Zombie Slams Ozzy Osbourne
We all love a good rock feud. Today's comes from our friends at Rock Radio and is between former tourmates Rob Zombie and Ozzy Osbourne: Zombie has slated Ozzy Osbourne for stealing members of his band after drummer Tommy Clufetos left to join the Prince of Darkness' touring outfit – the same leap made seven years ago by bassist Blasko, and nearly made by guitarist John 5 last year.

He says the way Ozzy and wife Sharon do business is "kinda rude" – but the upside is it led to the recruitment of Slipknot drummer Joey Jordison.

"If my guys want to play with other people that's fine. I don't own them. But there's ways to be respectful and ways to be s***ty – and I feel the way things have done down lately has been pretty s***ty," Zombie tells Artisan News. "Every time I've lost somebody I've got somebody ten times better, so I'm thankful for that." - more on this story

Slipknot Won't Replace Paul Gray
When John Bonham died, the other members of Led Zeppelin decided it wouldn't be right to carry on as a band with another member taking his place. Apparently Slipknot feels the same way but they still plan to carry on instead of breaking up like Zeppelin.

Rock Radio reports: Slipknot drummer Joey Jordison says the band will continue without tragic bassist Paul Gray, and won't replace him with a new full-time member.

Instead band members will play bass on new studio recordings, and they'll look at options for a touring musician when the time comes. But frontman Corey Taylor, who plays Sonisphere this weekend, is less clear on the band's future. - more on this story

AC/DC Make History Again
It seems only fitting that this week marks the 30th anniversary of the release of AC/DC's landmark "Back in Black," which is the second biggest selling album in music history, that we now learn that the band's Black Ice tour was the second biggest selling tour in music history.

Bryan Wawzenek of Gibson.com reports: Having just wrapped up last month in Spain, AC/DC's long-running Black Ice tour has turned out to be the second-highest grossing concert tour in music history, according to Billboard.com. With a haul of about $441.6 million, the 2008-10 Black Ice tour takes a backseat only to The Rolling Stones' 2005-07 A Bigger Bang tour, which grossed $558.3 million.

Still, Angus Young and Co. have nothing to hang their heads about. Nearly 4.9 million people attended the 168 shows on the tour. Following an eight-year touring absence, AC/DC hit the road again in 2008 to support a new studio album, Black Ice. That album also performed amazingly well, topping the charts in 27 countries. - more on this story

Why New Led Zeppelin Group Didn't Happen
If you were wondering why the recent reunion of Led Zeppelin with a new singer didn't come off, Rock Radio has the answer: Led Zeppelin drummer Jason Bonham says the band got "as close as you could get" to touring without singer Robert Plant after their reunion show in 2007 – but they weren't going to hit the road with Alter Bridge singer Myles Kennedy.

Kennedy, currently touring with Slash and rumoured to be in the frame for the vacant Velvet Revolver job, was thought to have been the man chosen after Plant decided he didn't want to tour.

The project was abandoned for undisclosed reasons – but now Bonham, son of original Zep drummer John, reveals it was due to a disagreement between Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones, and that Kennedy was already out of the picture by then. - more on this story

Iron Maiden Slams Bands for 'Raping' Fans
Iron Maiden won't be joining other veteran bands in "raping" their fans with excessive ticket prices. Frontman Bruce Dickinson has very strong feelings about this practice according to this report from our friends at Rock Radio:

Iron Maiden singer Bruce Dickinson says you won't catch his band trying to use the 'heritage' tag – because all it means is a tired old outfit is trying to fleece you. Dickinson points out that on the US and Canada leg of their world tour the top ticket price is $90 and as a result they're still an important act with a committed and young audience – unlike certain bands who 'milk' their own crowd.

And he singles out Eagles shows for being an example of the worst kind of prices and the worst kind of attendees. "We don't do $250. That's bulls*** – what is it with these 'heritage' acts? That's what they've branded themselves," He tells Noisecreep. "Basically you're seeing a bunch of bands who have been around for a while doing the same old s***. They come out of the woodwork after 10 years and go, 'You're going to pay through the nose, so we're going to rape you.' - more on this story

Rolling Stones Address Retirement Rumor
Another week, another UK press report based on an unnamed source shot down in flames. This one deals with the report that the Rolling Stones were plotting a huge farewell tour. The only problem is this so-called "inside source" forgot to tell the Rolling Stones.

Not all UK media outlets behave this way, in fact we got the real story from our friends at Rock Radio, who didn't seemed too pleased with the publication who published the original Stones retirement story. In fact, they accuse them of making it up! Rock Radio reports: The Sun – which recently lied about a Darkness reunion, even inventing a baby son for a former band member – has made up quotes which suggest the Stones will make one more trip round the world before splitting up.

It's another round of rumourmill rubbish from a paper which excels in the art – and, like the last lot of lies, not a word of it has basis in fact. Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood says: "We have all agreed this won't be the last time. Everyone's rocking." - more on this story

Van Halen May Tour in 2011 with Reunited Triumph
Two big speculations come out of Gibson.com's new interview with Triumph's Rik Emmett. One big story is that the band may reunite for a major tour next year. The even bigger news it that tour may be with Van Halen.

Here is that part of the interview: We're scheduled to go for a dinner tonight with a couple of guys from Live Nation that have flown into town and want to take us to dinner," Emmett tells Gibson.com. "I'm sure there's going to be some sort of a pitch. The rumors that have been sort of blowing in the wind are that Van Halen want to go back out yet again next year, but they're going to need some sort of support to make the packaging a little more interesting.

"Because Triumph hasn't really ever toured in any kind of a nostalgia way, I think Live Nation kind of goes, 'Oh, yeah, you guys would be perfect for that.' So, we'll see sort of the size and the shape and the glitter of the golden carrots that they have." - more on this story

Incubus Singer Returns with Hippie Porn?
Antiquiet reports that Incubus frontman Brandon Boyd will be making a return next week, but this time as a solo artist.

Like Antiquiet we had not yet heard even a whisper of the fact that Boyd was releasing an album (called "The Wild Trapeze") next week, but apparently Trever Trent at LA radio station 98.7FM knew all about it.

Antiquiet did a little digging after hearing that and found a video for the first single, which they describe as "3.5 minutes of hippie porn called Runaway Train". Check out the video - here and judge for yourself.

Billy Ray Cyrus Motley Hole Snot Supergroup
Country star Billy Ray Cyrus is going rock with a new band called Brother Clyde that also features Samantha Maloney (Motley Crόe, Hole, Eagles of Death Metal) and guitarist Jamie Miller (theSTART, Snot).

Here is the announcement: The band will be releasing their self-titled debut album on August 10th via Buena Vista Records/Fontana. The first single from Brother Clyde, "Lately," is available now on iTunes.

"I always loved rock 'n' roll," Cyrus says. "That was a heavy part of what I was as a young juvenile delinquent. I tried from my first album to rock like any other Southern rock band." Fate – and country music immortality – intervened, but for Brother Clyde, he followed an oh-so-rock-and-roll dictum: No rules. No limits. No preconceptions. - more on this story

Rocker Has A Third Of His Skull Removed Following Attack
Our friends at Rock Radio had this disturbing report of how a rocker's heroic actions have landed him in critical condition: Madina Lake bassist Matt Leone is in hospital in a 'critical condition' after stepping in to stop a man savagely beating his wife in the street.

Bandmate and brother Nathan says that Matt intervened when he saw the fight, and was left unconscious in the street for his efforts.

Doctors had to remove a third of his skull to reduce swelling on his brain. Matt is reportedly in a critical condition. Nathan blogged: "...He managed to subdue this guy for a second and since his wife was beat up pretty good called the cops.. as he did so the guy jumped him from behind and beat him. This guy did things I can't even type. After words, he and his beaten wife left Matthew unconcious on the street. - more on this story

Roxy Music Reunite for Tour
It's been a great couple weeks for Roxy Music fans. Last week we learned the details of Bryan Ferry's upcoming solo album and now we learn that Roxy Music will be touring the U.K. for the first time in nearly a decade.

Michael Wright of Gibson.com reports: Though the band will not be joined by Brian Eno, who played keyboards for the band in the early '70s, the touring lineup will feature frontman Bryan Ferry, along with multi-instrumentalist Andy Mackay, guitarist Phil Manzanera and drummer Paul Thompson.

The band will be coming off a summer tour, which has, thus far, taken them to Finland, Spain and Switzerland. The seven-date, Four Your Pleasure U.K. tour dates can be found - more on this story

Velvet Revolver To Change Direction With New Singer
Slash tells Metal Hammer Germany that Velvet Revolver is heading into a different musical direction now that they don't have to conform to Scott Weiland's vocal style.

"When Scott was out of the band and we came back to L.A. we just started doing some writing and we just went back to the way we normally would write, which is pretty heavy anyway." He continues, "We sort of altered things a little bit to fit Scott, but now, this, we're gonna do stuff our way and then try and find someone who can sing it the way that it should be sung."

When asked if Myles Kennedy from Alter Bridge who is heading up his solo touring band, was going to join Velvet Revolver, Slash said that he had been asked before but had other commitments. - more on this story

Early Unreleased KISS Country Song Posted Online
The Metal Den has unearthed what they believe is a never before released or circulated demo entitled "Mistake" by KISS.

The song is a straight up country and western ballad, featuring acoustic guitars, bottleneck slides and an overall sound more along the lines of Wicked Lester than even an acoustic gem like "Hard Luck Woman".

It is believed this rare track was recorded at the same sessions as "Rock And Roll All Nite" in 1975. As it stands it is the earliest demo for an unreleased KISS song known to exist! - more

Iron Maiden Guitarist Addresses Retirement Rumor
Rock Radio has interesting article about Iron Maiden where guitarist Janick Gers goes into details about the band's current tour setlist which has upset some fans. But he also address the rumors that Iron Maiden were planning to retire after the release of their new album. Here is that part of the report:

The title of the band's 15th studio album has led to increased speculation about Maiden's future, coupled with the fact that mainman Steve Harris used to regularly say the band would record 15 albums then split up.

"It's been fun, and as long as we enjoy it and it feels valid and the fans are still coming and we have great concerts – I'd like to carry on," Gers said. "The minute I don't enjoy it and we don't deliver, I wouldn't want to carry on as a parody act doing a cabaret show." - more on this story

Slash Band Member Nearly Blinded
The bassist for Slash's solo touring band Todd Kerns (Sin City Sinners) reportedly played most of their UK tour on the verge of suffering a detached retina.

Rock Radio reports: And he was told just hours before taking the stage at Glastonbury he could lose his sight permanently.

He started losing having problems ahead of the band's flight to the UK at the end of June. Ozzy Wants Strange Cameo In His Biopic
Ozzy Osbourne has been known to put on a dress from time to time. He was wearing one of Sharon's dresses during the infamous Alamo incident, so this story from SleazeRoxx doesn't come as too much of a surprise:

The heavy metal legend's biography 'I Am Ozzy' is being adapted for the big screen, and although he is reluctant to appear in it himself he would like have an unusual cameo.

He told Germany's FHM magazine: 'I don't really want to be in it. At least I'm hoping I won't. Although I wouldn't mind a cameo - that would be fun. I could play my mother or Lemmy from Motorhead!' - more on this story

Bret Michaels' Doctors Deny Rumors That Singer Faked Medical Emergencies
Some people were amazed at Bret Michaels' Lazarus like recovery from a series of very serious medical emergencies. Others took it further and became skeptical and some cynical enough to started suggesting that the Poison frontman and reality TV star was faking it for PR purposes. Now Bret's camp has issues a strong statement, including the debunking of such rumors by Bret's neurosurgeon and a doctor who operated on the singer. Here is what they had to say:

Recently there have been a few erroneous, false and irresponsible statements spread on the internet and one news station that Bret Michaels medical condition wasn't serious, real or life threatening.

Dr. Joseph Zabramski, MD, Bret's neurosurgeon at Barrow Neurological Institute states, "The fact is, the subarachnoid hemorrhage that Mr. Michaels suffered was very real, and very serious as was the T.I.A (warning stroke) and P.F.O., which will be operated on later this year. A subarachnoid hemorrhage is a life-threatening, neurosurgical emergency that requires an extensive work up and management in the ICU to prevent re-bleeding and manage the complications associated with the initial hemorrhage. For anyone to speculate that this was not a life threatening medical emergency is absolutely incorrect. Between 15 and 20 percent of patients die as a result of the initial hemorrhage, and only approximately 50 percent of those that survive have a good outcome. Recovery from subarachnoid hemorrhage is determined primarily by the size of the initial bleeding episode. Mr. Michaels quick reaction to the hemorrhage and immediate medical attention that followed aided in his ability to make a strong recovery and stop the brain hemorrhage before it caused severe and permanent brain damage. Mr. Michaels is fortunate to be alive after all that he has been through. Bret is truly one of the most determined individuals I have ever met when it comes to an attempt at making a full recovery. - more on this story

U2 Beat AC/DC
AC/DC may have nabbed honors for the biggest selling tour but when it comes to overall profits, U2 has them beat. Russell Hall of Gibson.com has the details: U2 have scored the top spot in Forbes' annual report on top-earning musicians, RollingStone.com has reported. Fueled by their 360 Degree Tour, the veteran band netted $130 million during the past 12 months.

AC/DC, who just completed their ambitious Black Ice World Tour on June 28, came in second, with Beyonce, Bruce Springsteen, and Britney Spears rounding out the top five.

Forbes bases its calculations on net income from ticket sales, record sales, and endorsement deals, with record sales generally being the least lucrative component in the mix. The U2 tour earned the band $311 million in gross proceeds, with overhead costs of $750,000 per day eating into overall profits - more on this story

Bill Ward Addresses Black Sabbath Reunion Rumors
Black Sabbath drummer Bill Ward has gone on the record about the rumors that the members of Black Sabbath may be plotting a reunion with Ozzy Osbourne following the death of Ronnie James Dio.

When Sonic Express asked Ward about the rumors of a Sabbath reunion, he responded, "The only thing I know, and I have talked with Tony.... well, the only person I haven't spoken with is Geezer, but that is because he prefers e-mail to the telephone, and Ozzy (Osbourne) called me yesterday. I think the statements have been made into a little bit of a cake. I saw the statements only last night online, when I got home from the studio. Where Ozzy's at, with wanting to tour with Black Sabbath is that Ozzy has been in his place for a long time and says, 'I'm never going to say never'. I have the same attitude. My quotes would be, 'I never want to say never, I'm in the same place'. Tony has a completely open mind to the possibility of touring with Sabbath again.

"I think what's happening is that some people have hooked into that and written a story out of it. I think realistically, right now, I can't see where it would be a possibility, with Ozzy on tour for the next 18 months and having a new record out that's great. I've got a new record, and I know that Tony has other things he wants to do musically, and Geezer also. We might all agree to it, but when it would happen, I just don't know. Other than those few comments, I just don't know about a Sabbath tour anywhere near in the future. Tony has already stated that he doesn't want to talk about it until he finishes that concert for Ronnie in London. It would be great, but I don't know where any of it sits right now. It's like the press has gotten it and is kindling the fire before anything has been said. I talk to Ozzy all the time, and he hasn't mentioned sh*t to me about Sabbath." - full interview

Warrant Disown Jani Lane... Again
The current members of Warrant are not very pleased with how the tabloids are handling coverage of their former singer Jani Lane's recent DUI arrest. The band issued the following statement on their Myspace blog:

"Warrant was founded on the notion that any press is good press, and for that, we would like to thank AOL, Perez Hilton and [removed] for their continued front page cover stories regarding Jani Lane. When you run your next update, please note that he is NOT the singer in Warrant. With the exception of a failed 11 show reunion in 2008, he has not been affiliated with Warrant in over seven years.

To all of the promoters and ticket holders for our upcoming shows, please know that Robert Mason (ex-Lynch Mob) 'the' lead singer of Warrant, along with original band members Joey Allen, Jerry Dixon, Steven Sweet and Erik Turner, will not be in jail and are ready to rock and roll as scheduled. If you (the press) are going to run these stories, please spell our names correctly and get the facts straight. Also, please mention our web site, Warrantrocks.com, as we can always use some extra web traffic. Thanks for the free support.

P.S. We do wish Lane all the best in his on-going efforts." -

Sex, Drugs and Bon Jovi
Steven Adler's new autobiography apparently isn't the only rock tell-all that will be released next week. We received an announcement that Bon Jovi's former tour manager Richard Bozzett will release Sex, Drugs and Bon Jovi on July 26th. Here is the info that we were sent about the release:

Bon Jovi has sold more than 130 million records worldwide and performed in front of more than 34 million fans but little is known about how Bon Jovi rose to superstardom as he doesn't often talk about the early years.

For the first time, take an all-access backstage ride into the early years (1983-89) through tour manager Richard Bozzett's eyes in Sex, Drugs and Bon Jovi. New Kurt Cobain Biopic To Be Raw And Chaotic
(Gibson) Director Oren Moverman has promised that his new Kurt Cobain biopic will be "raw and chaotic, which is what Cobain's life was like."

Although 2007 Bob Dylan biopic, I'm Not There (which Moverman co-wrote with director Todd Haynes), took artistic license with its portrayal of its subject, the Cobain film will be more mainstream in style.

Moverman explained to The Guardian that, "It'll take you from A to Z. People know the shortcut version – he took a lot of heroin, wrote 'Smells Like Teen Spirit,' became the biggest rock star in the world and killed himself. Those known things about him are to me the least interesting." - more on this story

Guitar Hero: Rush 2112
Rush have joined together with Activision Publishing, Inc.'s Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock to bring their seven-part suite from their classic 2112 album to the game's all-new, story-based Quest Mode this September.

For the first time ever, Guitar Hero fans will embark on an epic voyage playing as eight Guitar Hero characters that transform into rock warriors who must join together to use their unique, game-changing powers to help the Demi-God of Rock take down "The Beast" to save rock.

"The music, the story and the journey of 2112 lends itself perfectly to the quest in Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock," said Geddy Lee of Rush. "In our story, the caves of 2112 are where our hero finds the lost guitar and this rediscovery of music is much like the Guitar Hero warriors' journey to find the Demi-God of Rock's Legendary guitar, which has been trapped in a cavern." - more on this story

Metallica Enthusiastic About Possible Tour with Slayer, Megadeth, and Anthrax
Metallica are wrapping up a massive two-and-half year touring cycle later this year but that hasn't kept them from looking ahead to future tour plans and they may involve three words that will make any thrash metal fans salivate: The Big Four!

After this summer's monumental Big Four shows as part of the Sonisphere festival that saw Metallica share the stage with Megadeth, Slayer and Anthrax, Lars Ulrich has warmed up to the idea of bring the package to fans in the U.S. and the U.K. "The vibe on this thing [the 'Big Four' tour] is so big, we'd be stupid to ignore it," Ulrich tells Classic Rock magazine. "You know on your iPhone, you can move the weather maps up and down? Well, the 'Big Four' is quickly moving up to the top in terms of potential occurrences for the next couple of years."

But don't expect it to happen right away: "We started in May 2008, so we've got to go and lie down pretty soon!" he said. "We've got three runs out in Australia, Japan and New Zealand in the Fall, then we're going to take a little bit of a breather because at that point we will have been two-and-a-half years on the road." He adds, "So I would champion trying to do this [the 'Big Four' tour] in 2011 or 2012, obviously in England and the United States . It's just a matter of logistics. I don't think there's anybody involved who considers there's a sell-by date on this - more on this story

Slash Explains Fan Attack and Velvet Revolver's Future
Slash recently took a break from his busy schedule to talk with Michael Wright of Gibson.com. They cover a lot of ground in the interview but there two hot topics caught out eye. First Michael asks Slash about the recent incident in Milan (where a fan bum-rushed Slash onstage).

Slash: That wasn't that bad. That wasn't that big of a deal. It could have been a lot worse. But the way that it turned out, the guy that got up there, you know, ended up going over the front of the stage with my security guard and I sort of just got tagged along the way. It's not that big of a deal. I mean, come on. It's a rock and roll band. (laughs)

Gibson.com: What is the status of Velvet Revolver right now? Your website says, ominously, "New Velvet Revolver Coming..." Do you have any idea when…or with whom on vocals?

Slash: Well, the main thing is looking for a singer. And everybody has been quietly listening to demos and stuff from singers this whole time. They're just really, really few and far between. There are a lot of good singers, but the right kind of rock and roll singer for a band like Velvet Revolver is very few and far between. So everybody has been doing their own thing in the meantime. We will reconvene sometime next year and sit down and listen to all of the demos that we have and see if we have anything. As soon as we do find the right guy, then we'll focus on making another record. - full interview

Pussy Cat Killers? The Killers and Tom Jones To Team Up
(Gibson) The Killers and veteran singer Tom Jones are planning to record together, reports NME.com. Speaking backstage at the Latitude Festival this past weekend, Jones said he's an admirer of the Las Vegas-based band, and apparently the group feels the same toward him.

"I've spoken to [The Killers' frontman] Brandon Flowers," said Jones, whose new album, Praise and Blame, will be released on July 27. "He said he admired what I'd done in my career. There's a connection there because he's from Las Vegas, and of course I've performed there so many times over the years."

Jones went on to say the collaboration will happen just as soon as he and the band find a suitable song. - more on this story

Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons of KISS have made no secret of their love for The Beatles, so this report from the Metal Den (and songs) should come as no surprise. In fact, the biggest surprise is that recordings like these have not surfaced earlier!

At the start of the clip is Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons trying their hand at some classic songs by The Beatles. The first one is "Help!" and the second is "Please Please Me". Bon Jovi Upset About Not Making Forbes List?
This isn't really news, but it was fun to read. The Silver Tongue has the tale of woe for Jon Bon Jovi: What's more important than being rich? Everyone knowing that you're rich.

New Jersey rocker Bon Jovi is apparently upset that he failed to make it onto the 2010 Forbes magazine top celebrity lists.

According to a report in the NY Post, "Jon kicked up a huge fuss and got his people to complain. He couldn't understand why he didn't make the musicians list since Bon Jovi has been touring nonstop since February. Their contemporaries U2 and Bruce Springsteen were on the list. Even Britney Spears was No. 5, and she hasn't done anything this year."

Toxic Poop Kills Kings of Leon Show
Most tickets to concerts in outdoor venues usually carry the warning that the show will go on "rain or shine." We learned this weekend that the warning does not extending pigeon droppings. Just ask Kings of Leon, who were forced off the stage Friday night three songs into their set at St. Louis' Verizon Amphitheater after being inundated by poop from pigeons living in the venue's rafters.

The show's openers The Postelles and the Stills braved through their entire sets only to emerge from the stage covered in pigeon droppings. The Kings of Leon decided to try their luck and play their set but were forced to leave after an unhealthy encounter.

Drummer Nathan Followill told fans via Twitter "We had to bail, pigeons s***ting in Jared's mouth and it was too unsanitary to continue. Don't take it out on Jared, it's the f**king venue's fault. You may enjoy being sh*t on but we don't. Sorry for all who traveled many miles." - more on this story

Soil Address Their Future After Losing Two Members
Adam Zadel and Tim King of Soil have proclaimed that "the show must go on" following the "hiatus" of frontman A.J. Cavalier and drummer Tom Schofield. The remaining members of the band are picking up the pieces and carrying on. Here is what they told fans via their Myspace blog on Friday:

I'm sure you are all wondering what is happening in the world of SOiL after all the rumors and statements that have been going around. Late last week we learned of AJ's intentions as he notified us of his "indefinite hiatus". Then we learned of Tom's intentions, As did all of you, via the Blabbermouth statement he issued a few days ago.

We have decided that the show must and will go on. We refuse to let the fans, promoters, and radio stations down on such short notice. We decided to ask our friend's Jordan Lee (vox) and Mike Tignino (drums) to fill in. Both Jordan and Mike are awesome musicians and have been long time SOiL followers and to us it is an honor to have them join us for the already confirmed shows. We will take full advantage of this opportunity to perform some classic songs we haven't played in years and can promise you we will deliver a powerful and energetic show that will meet and surpass the standards we have always set for our live shows. - more on this story

Saosin Lose Their Singer
First they lose their major label deal and now it appears that Saosin have lost their frontman, Cove Reber.

Alternative Addiction reports: The announcement came in the form of a post on the band's message board earlier this week by the band's guitarist, Beau Burchell.

"After 5 years with (vocalist) Cove (Reber), we have decided to part ways," Burchell stated in the post. "So it will be a new experience for us, not knowing what to expect in the vocal dept, who will replace him, or if we will even find a replacement this century." - more on this story

Ozzy Osbourne Explains Iron Maiden Feud
Rock Radio reports that Ozzy Osbourne has explained Sharon's reasoning behind the infamous egg tossing episode at Ozzfest where Sharon organized the sabotage of Iron Maiden's set at the southern California stop in 2005.

Ozzy tells his side of the incident: "Unbenown to me, every night Bruce Dickinson was going on stage slagging me off, and that wasn't fair," Ozzy said

"I never said a bad thing to him. The bass player came round at the last gig and said, 'I'm sorry about Bruce,' and I'm like, 'What are you talking about?' Nobody had told me." Ozzy continues. "So Sharon got pissed off. I didn't know what was going down, but I'll back my wife to the hilt." - more on this story

Max Cavalera Discusses Sepultura Reunion and Jackass Fred Durst
Rock Radio has the inside story of why the failed Sepultura reunion never came to pass and how Max Cavalera feels about teaming up with Fred Durst early in the Limp Bizkit's career. Here is part of their report:

Max Cavalera tried but failed to stage a classic lineup reunion of Sepultura – but he says he'll try again when the time is right after talks with guitarist Andreas Kisser stalled. He also says he regrets his collaboration with Fred Durst from Limp Bizkit, because the rap-rocker turned out to be a "jackass".

The frontman left Sepultura in 1996 amid internal tensions which have never been fully explained, but are believed to be connected with the band sacking his wife from her management role. "I thought the time for a reunion was good. Everybody's alive, everybody's here. So I decided to call Andreas to see if we could get it happening," Cavalera tells PyroMusic.net. "It didn't really go anywhere. He demanded a lot of unreal things, stuff that wasn't negotiable. So I just hung up the phone and said, 'I'll try again later, another time'." - more on this story
