Great White Singer Has Surgery For Nearly Fatal Bowel Injury
Great White frontman Jack Russell has been hospitalized and is currently recovering from surgery to repair a nearly fatal perforated bowel injury, according to his manager.

Jam reports that doctors discovered a hole in the bowel wall, which was allowing waste products to flow into his body. According to the Stockholm Rock Out festival's blog, where Great White was scheduled to perform, The surgery left Russell with a colostomy bag. Doctors are confident that this procedure is temporary.

Russell remains hospitalized in Southern California, and his condition is improving he is expected to recover in six to eight weeks. "It was touch and go for about 48 hours whether or not he was going to live," manager Obi Steinman said. "He's been in the hospital for several days, and he's doing a lot better." He faces another operation, but he was in good spirits today "I've felt better, but I've felt a hell of a lot worse. Nothing is going to keep me down," Russell said. "This whole thing definitely makes me appreciate life more than I ever have." - Read the Stockholm Rock Out blog for more details

It's not quite the Big Four, but three out of four ain't too bad at all for thrash fans. Megadeth, Slayer and Anthrax are hitting the road together for the Jagermeister tour.

Here is announcement and the dates: The Jagermeister Music Tour will bring three of the hardest hitting metal bands in the world to one stage and will feature complete performances of Slayer's much lauded Seasons In The Abyss album from 1990, Megadeth's landmark 1990 album Rust In Peace, and the return of Anthrax's singer Joey Belladonna. Scorpions May Not Retire But Ratt Are On The Rocks
The Scorpions well publicized farewell tour featured a run of dates with the reunited Ratt opening for them. But Ratt's frontman Steven Pearcy says there are hints that The Scorps may carry on while his band is on the rocks.

Rock Radio reports: The Scorpions could be close to changing their minds over splitting up, Ratt singer Steven Pearcy has revealed. But his own band may not reconvene after their current album cycle finishes. "We had a great tour with the Scorpions. We jammed with them on the last night and it was very cool. They're just the utmost professionals." Pearcy tells BraveWords.com. "Hopefully they won't retire – there's chatter of them doing more stuff."

But Pearcy, who admits he's not back to full health after a hernia operation, is less optimistic when talking about his own band. He says"I don't need to give that book any more attention than it deserves. I've been working on something called Ratt Tales, and lo and behold, Tales of Ratt by Bobby Blotzer comes out? It's not too original." He adds, "I'm looking forward to a break. I'm ready to go with new solo stuff with the Rat Bastards and my new band Battering Ramm. Will we do another Ratt record? I don't know. Things didn't fall into place and I've left my options open. We'll see what happens." - more on this story

Zakk Wylde Goes Top 5
Being publicly fired by Ozzy Osbourne in a press interview apparently didn't hurt Zakk Wylde's solo career. In fact, his sales are up and his latest Black Label Society album looks to have made a Top 5 debut.

Gibson says reports indicate that Black Label Society's new album, Order of the Black, sold between 35,000 and 40,000 copies in its first week of release. The latest from Zakk Wylde and Co. hit store shelves and online retailers last Tuesday. [Hits Double Daily has the sales at 35,722 for a close 4th place finish ahead of Blake Shelton who reportedly sold 35,465 copies of his new album. Eminem, Arcade Fire and Camp Rock 2 hold the top 3.]

This means that BLS's new album will have topped the first-week sales of their previous CD, 2006's Shot to Hell, which reached about 31,000 copies in its first seven days. - more on this story

Iron Maiden Rocketing To The Top
It looks like Iron Maiden's new album The Final Frontier is rocketing to the top of the charts in the band's native UK.

Rock Radio reports: The band's fifteenth studio album has entered the UK midweek charts at number one, with over 22,000 sales since its release yesterday – three times as many as second-placed Eminem.

That puts the metal icons on course to top the official list on Sunday, which naturally delights McBrain. He tells MusicRadar.com: "It would be a great accolade. Would it mean the same now as it might have 15 or 20 years ago? I can't say – but at the end of the day I know we have a great album." - more on this story

Slash and Lemmy May Get Stoned
We just couldn't resist that headline. By stoned, we mean have their likeness made into stone statues. Ok, it wasn't that funny. Gibson reports: A British man is attempting to build a permanent tribute to Slash and Lemmy Kilmister in Stoke-on-Trent, England. Nile Plumb would like the city to erect statues of the two hard rock legends, in tribute to their musical legacies, according to the BBC.

Slash, guitarist for Guns N' Roses and Velvet Revolver, plus a successful solo artist, was born in Stoke-on-Trent. Lemmy, most famous for fronting long-running rockers Motφrhead, was born in nearby Burslem.

"There's a lot of interest and people really want to get behind it," Plumb said. A Facebook campaign had drawn more than 400 followers, before apparently being removed. - more on this story

Ohio City Renamed Snidersville for Twisted Sister Frontman
It's really happening, Twisted Sister frontman Dee Snider is having a Midwestern town renamed in his honor. Here is the official word: What started as a joking request led the town of Cridersville, Ohio, to officially change its name for a day to Snidersville in honor of Dee Snider, front man for the 1980's heavy metal band Twisted Sister, and national spokesman for March of Dimes Bikers for Babies.

"I've had many dreams and been lucky enough to have most of them come true, but I would never dare to dream of something like this! Having a town change its name to mine — even though it is changing only a few letters — is one of the coolest things that's ever happened to me!" said Dee Snider, who jokingly requested the change when a listener from the town requested a song. "It's even better that we can support the March of Dimes work to give all babies a healthy start in life."

On August 21st, Cridersville, Ohio, will be officially changing its name to Snidersville. That same day, Mr. Snider will host a March of Dimes Bikers for Babies ride and will ride his motorcycle from Lima, Ohio, to "Snidersville" with other bikers to help raise funds to help fight premature birth. - more on this story

Singled Out: Jerry Jennings' One Blue Lady (With Ronnie Montrose)
Welcome to Singled Out! where we ask artists to tell us the inside story of their latest single. Today noted guitarist Jerry Jennings tells us about "One Blue Lady" from his album "Shortcut To The Center," which was produced by Ronnie Montrose who also appears on this track. We now turn it over to Jerry for the story:

On the song "One Blue Lady" you can hear Ronnie throughout. His guitar is the screaming overdriven tone, and mine is somewhat cleaner and bluesier. His sound is the one you hear doing leads in the intro. And I think you'll agree, his solo is off the map. There was no prep time, and the song is in 6/4 time. He knocked that out in about three takes. I remember just asking Ronnie off the cuff, "Hey so do you think you'd want to take a solo on one of the songs? We ended up doing a bunch of trading licks toward the end. The trading off actually starts before the bridge in the breakdown area, and continues through the outro section.

Ronnie is electronically knowledgeable and likes to rebuild all of his stomp boxes. I don't remember which pedal this was, maybe a ring modulator. It was one he had just finished working on. But after my struggling with getting the perfect take on so many of my solos, and then having this amazing solo falling in place in a second, I remember thinking, well I guess there is a reason they call him Ronnie Montrose! Anyway, that solo will always be a reminder.

Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself and learn more about the album - right here!

Local H Going Undercover
Don't let Scott Lucas's announcement today that his other band is releasing a new EP worry you Local H fans, the dynamic duo have also announced a new release this fall. Here it is:

Local H will release its first-ever collection of covers, Local H's Awesome Mix Tape #1, on October 19th on G&P Records. The EP will be available on CD, digitally and, in a nod to the format for which it was named, on limited-edition cassette. It's the band's first release since 2008's critically acclaimed 12 Angry Months. (Frontman Scott Lucas will also release The Absolute Beginners EP with his solo project, Scott Lucas & the Married Men, on October 19th.)

"We'd talked about doing a covers record before, but it just never got off the ground," says Lucas. "We make these mix-tape type of comps that we play before our shows. On our last tour we had this mix of all the songs we've ever done as covers. And that clicked. That would be the way to do an all-covers record. Fashion it like an old school mix tape. Something that a crazy drug dealer out of 'Boogie Nights' could play to scare Mark Wahlberg," he says, acknowledging the EP title's reference to the film. - more on this story

Noel Gallagher Working On Mystery Project
What in the world could Noel Gallagher be up to? He is apparently prepared to begin work on a mystery project. Gibson has the clues: NME.com reports that Noel is set to head into the studio this week to record some drums for a musician whose name he would not give up.

Interviewed by U.K. radio station TalkSport, the former Oasis member talked about his beloved soccer team Manchester City's start to the new English Premier League season, denied that he will be Russell Brand's best man at Brand's upcoming celebrity wedding to singer Katy Perry (though he will be attending the bachelor party and wedding) and also revealed some interesting personal insights during the in-depth chat.

For example he prefers chocolate sauce over raspberry on his ice cream, his favorite potato chips are square-shaped and salt and vinegar in flavor and his favorite childhood cartoon character was Hong Kong Phooey. Gallagher has been under great scrutiny since he quit Oasis in 2009. Gallagher wrote on the band's website: "It's with some sadness and great relief to tell you that I quit Oasis. People will write and say what they like, but I simply could not go on working with Liam a day longer." -

Liverpool May Destroy Beatles Birthplace
It looks like another music landmark faces destruction. Gibson has the details: The Telegraph is reporting that the birthplace of Beatles drummer Ringo Starr is in danger of destruction at the hands of the Liverpool City Council. Proposals are in place to demolish 9 Madryn Street in the district know as the Dingle. Starr (born Richard Starkey) was born there on July 7, 1940. The house had fallen into disrepair in recent years, along with neighboring streets.

Longtime Beatle tour guide Philip Coppell said: "What the council is proposing to do is nothing short of criminal and they will be convicted in the court of international public opinion if they go ahead with it. If the council in Stratford wanted to knock down Shakespeare's birthplace and move it to the NEC, there would be outrage. The only difference between the two is that Shakespeare has a 400-year head start on the Beatles."

In response to a government proposal to move the home, Coppell said, "If they move it to the museum, it will lose the sense of the area where it stands. Seeing it in a museum is just not going to have the same impact as visiting the street where Ringo was born. Ringo Starr lived in other houses, but he was only born in one. If it's knocked-down – even if it is moved – fans all over the world are going to be up in arms. They will just not understand how Liverpool can carry-out this kind of cultural vandalism." - more on this story

Blondie Plan New Album
For those holding out for a new Blondie album, the wait is apparently almost over. Gibson has the story: New wave rockers Blondie have announced that they plan to release their ninth studio album in 2011. Titled Panic of Girls, the release was recorded last November and December in Woodstock, New York.

Drummer Clem Burke told Billboard.com that the album has more of a live feel. "We tried to make the recording process as organic as possible and tried to stay away from programming as much as we could, because [The Curse of Blondie] had a lot of programming on it," he said. "So in the spirit of Woodstock, we kept going in the studio and playing."

Burke also said that frontwoman Debbie Harry wrote most of the lyrics on the new album. Blondie have been playing some of the new songs while on tour this summer. "What I Heard," "The End" and "Mother" have found slots in the set list next to classics like "Heart of Glass" and "Call Me." - more on this story

Tony Iommi Offers Reward for Stolen Guitar
Tony Iommi is offering a ransom for the safe return of his prized guitar. Gibson reports: Iommi's axe was stolen following a show at London's High Voltage Festival that honored his late friend and musical collaborator Ronnie James Dio. The guitar god was performing with fellow Heaven and Hell members Geezer Butler and Vinnie Appice, with all proceeds from the concert benefiting the Ronnie James Dio Stand Up and Shout Cancer Fund.

Apparently, somebody thought that the tribute concert would be the perfect occasion to steal the Black Sabbath legend's Gibson Custom Tony Iommi Signature SG. When Iommi realized that his prized instrument was missing, the guitarist reportedly began contacting different people involved in the performance, thinking that his SG had simply been accidentally packed up by someone else.

However, that turned out not to be the case and the guitar is still out there somewhere. Via his website www.Iommi.com, Iommi has announced that he's offering a reward for any information leading to the recovery of the guitar. Anybody who has information about the incident is being encouraged to post on the message board section of www.Iommi.com. -
