(Gibson) Black-Sabbath.com is reporting that Tony Iommi's Gibson guitar has been stolen. The Gibson SG has been Iommi's signature instrument since his early days with Black Sabbath. He is one of the guitar model's best-known players. The Black Sabbath and Heaven and Hell guitarist posted this statement on the website:"Sadly, my red Custom Shop Iommi SG was stolen at the tribute show Heaven and Hell performed at High Voltage on July 24th [in tribute to the late Ronnie James Dio]. If you have any information or leads please let us know, we are offering a reward." Heaven and Hell members Iommi, Geezer Butler and Vinnie Appice played a tribute show to their late frontman Ronnie James Dio last month at the High Voltage Festival in London. Jorn Lande (Masterplan) and Glenn Hughes (ex-Deep Purple, ex-Black Sabbath) filled in on vocals. All proceeds went to benefit the Ronnie James Dio Stand Up and Shout Cancer Fund.

You gotta hand it to Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley of KISS, they may have figured out a way to earn money from KISS without doing any of the work. But at least the scheme won't include Paul's son. Rock Radio reports: Simmons and Stanley have been talking-up the concept of the glam-rock machine continuing without them in recent months. They say the brand is bigger than any member of the band, including the two remaining founding members. But if Kiss should enter a second generation, it won't include Stanley's 16-year-old son Evan even though his dad admits the youngster is a better guitarist than him. "I'll never be as good as Evan. He jams with us during sound checks, but will he ever play onstage with us? I hope not," Stanley tells the New York Daily News. "I want all three of my kids to live by the same philosophy that got me where I am, which is: find your own path.

(Gibson) EMI has announced that the classic Beatles collections, 1962-1966 and 1967-1970, will be remastered and released October 15th. The two double-disc sets, better known as the "Red" (1962-1966) and "Blue" (1967-1970) albums, will include an expanded booklet with original liner notes, rare pictures of the Fab Four and written essays by Bill Flanagan, the editorial director and senior vice president at VH1. When they were released in 1973, the "Red" and "Blue" albums were the first compilations of the band's music since their break-up three years before. The collections were assembled by manager Allen Klein and were approved by the band themselves. The collection of early material rose to #3 on both the U.S. and U.K. charts, while the latter-era collection hit #2 in England and #1 in the States.

The Blues Brothers were on a mission from God, so why wouldn't the Almighty use Metallica to speak to people? Or Batman and Oscar winning films for that matter? That's the main premise of "The Day Metallica Came To Church," a new book by a pastor from Canada. The pitch for the book asks, "What do the music of Metallica and Bach, the film Crash, and stories about Batman have in common? According to author and pastor John Van Sloten, God can speak through all of themif we're listening." He goes into a bit more detail in a new feature with the Calgary Sun. He apparently almost lost his church by using Metallica and other popular culture themes to reach his parishioners. "They thought I was going too far, throwing out the bible completely," said Van Sloten, 49, pastor of New Hope Church. "In most other denominations, I'd be defrocked." The big problem with the book's title is the fact that Metallica never really came to church. They had church brought to them. According to The Sun's feature, "In 2004, he told his flock of how heavy metal band Metallica's music embodied God's message of conquering injustice. The band was playing a concert in Calgary at the time and, fascinated when told of the sermon but unable to attend, had a video crew record it."

(Gibson) Brendan Benson, solo artist and co-frontman for The Raconteurs, recently discussed the possibility of more music coming from the band which also features Jack White, Patrick Keeler and "Little" Jack Lawrence. Benson told NME.com that all four members are excited to work together again, but that it will have to wait while Keeler and Lawrence reunite and tour with The Greenhornes."We're all busy," Benson said. "Patrick and LJ [Lawrence] are starting The Greenhornes again, putting that back together and I think they're touring, which is great news because that's been a long time coming. They had a record that they sat on forever during The Raconteurs, so that's finally coming out and, of course, Jack [White] has The Dead Weather and all that." But Benson said fans probably haven't heard the last from The Raconteurs (who have released two albums so far: 2006's Broken Boy Soldiers and 2008's Consolers of the Lonely). "We haven't talked about it, but [doing more]'s not out of the question. The Raconteurs is a band that was founded on this impulsive basis," he said. "It was always spontaneous for us and we want to keep it that way. So when the time is right and everyone converges we'll do it."

(Gibson) After recently completing a tour of Europe with the "Big Four," Dave Mustaine is ready for more. The Megadeth frontman said he'd be up for another trek with Metallica, Anthrax and Slayer who, along with Megadeth, are considered the "Big Four" of '80s thrash metal."If the opportunity came up again, we would all go for it," Mustaine told Rolling Stone. The singer-guitarist has a particular tie to Metallica, who kicked him out of the band before they achieved global success. "I think it would even be cool if it was just us and Metallica," he said. "It was fun for us, great for our career, and great for all the fans because at the end of that night, when I went up and hugged James [Hetfield, Metallica guitarist/vocalist], and I heard how loud that cheer was versus any other time we were playing that was the [moment] you dream about when you're a kid. Welcome to Singled Out! where we ask artists to tell us the inside story of their latest single. Today The Dig's frontman David Baldwin tells us about "Two Sisters in Love" from their new album "Electric Toys". We now turn it over to David for the story: We first started writing "Two Sisters in Love" in Emile's mom's living room about a year ago. We went to her house in Westchester, NY because we needed a whole weekend to teach our drummer Jamie, who had just joined the band that day, all of our songs for a Bowery Ballroom show three days later. Occasionally we'd take a break from rehearsing our songs, and we'd all switch instruments and mess around with some new ideas. In doing this Jamie came up with the guitar riff that became the intro and recurs throughout the song. I already had the title and a rough idea of the verse melody, as well as the idea to base the lyrics on an old ballad, "The Two Sisters." The ballad "The Two Sisters" has been around forever and the first version I heard was one I found on a CD collection of old traditional songs. The idea for the title "Two Sisters In Love" seemed like it probably came from having heard that song, so it felt natural to try and tell a similar story. In the version I heard, a girl kills her younger sister out of jealousy and ends up getting hanged as a punishment. We pretty much just took these ideas and twisted them around a little bit. I had another song that started with the line "she opened up her eyes and said
" but I thought it might be better for this song. With the opening line, the title and the idea to base the song off that ballad in mind, we spent the time in Emile's mom's living room working out the instrumental arrangements of the song. From there we all came up with some different melodies and parts to go along with the verses. Emile came up with the melody that separates the two verses, as well as a riff that we play at the end. Erick had some melodies and guitar parts, and we continued to work at it for a few days before we arrived at the version that ended up on Electric Toys. Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself and learn more about the album

Gibson has a great new interview with The Eagles Don Felder where we learn a lot of things, among them that Felder taught Tom Petty how to play guitar. Here is an excerpt where Felder explains:I was working in that music store in Gainesville and like I said, the only way I had to make money was after school I would go teach guitar in this music store. One day this kind of scrawny, scraggly blond-haired kid came in and wanted guitar lessons. I started teaching him guitar and we became friends and I went over to his house a couple of times. He had actually set up a microphone in one of the rooms in his house and he was playing bass in this little band. He wanted to learn guitar so he could play guitar instead of just bass in the band. So I went over to his house and was hanging around and he would play songs. Then I tried to help this band called the Rucker Brothers, which Tommy played bass in, and they had two guitar players named Rodney and Ricky Rucker. It was a little bit of a train wreck because the two guitar players didn't know how one should take a step back while the other takes the floor and one would play rhythm and one would play lead. They were just both kind of trashing away so I organized and arranged some of their songs a little bit so they made a little more sense that way. I went to a few of their shows and just kind of hung around. It was a very small town and between Tommy and his band, the Rucker Brothers, and later Stephen Stills and I had a band. The Stephen left and Bernie Leadon arrived four or five months after his departure. Bernie kind of stepped into Stephen's spot playing guitar and singing. The Allman Brothers were there during the school year and on weekends playing fraternity parties. During the summer the only place to work was over on Daytona Beach, so all the bands from Gainesville would go over and work off the strip on Daytona Beach or a dance club or off of the pier. So everybody knew everybody.

(Gibson) Pink Floyd bassist, singer and songwriter Roger Waters has given a Canadian band permission to re-record his former band's hit, "Another Brick in the Wall, Part 2" with different lyrics, according to the Associated Press. The Toronto-based group, Blurred Vision, is intending their cover to be an anthem for young Iranians. They've changed the famous "Hey, teacher
" line to "Hey, Ayatollah, leave those kids alone!" Blurred Vision is fronted by two brothers named Sepp and Sohl who are Iranian exiles. They keep their last names a secret because of fear of retaliation against family members who still live in their home country. It is illegal to play rock music in Iran. In a statement, Waters said he supports any fight against oppression. He feels that Blurred Vision is a big part of "the resistance to a regime that is both repressive and brutal." He added, "I applauded and supported the resistance of schoolchildren in South Africa to that repressive and brutal regime."

Snowdon with 150 trekkers, followed by a sell-out concert at Rhuddlan Castle on the same day. Epiphone was one of the proud brand supporters of the Love Hope Strength Foundation Snowdon expedition and provided Mike Peters with an Epiphone Masterbilt Acoustic. Event organizer Jules Peters explained, "From the moment last year when Mike expressed a desire to pull off a rock gig at the castle, we have worked tirelessly to make this weekend a success. Never before has a rock concert been staged at Rhuddlan Castle and, with the full support of Cadw and the North Wales community, the event has been a huge success, raising a minimum of £20,000 with donations and sponsorship money still pouring in. Heartfelt thanks to the local community who supported our dream." Mike was joined on stage by The Levellers, who made a massive overnight journey from Inverness, Scotland, to be at Rhuddlan Castle Rocks. Simon Fowler from Ocean Colour Scene made a surprise special guest appearance, and Mike and The Alarm joined Simon on stage to perform their massive hit, "The Day We Caught the Train." The Alarm treated the audience to a medley of Top 20 Hits, including "Rain in the Summertime," "68 Guns" and "Spirit of '76." Mike was also joined on stage by very special guests, actors Phil Daniels and Keith Allen, for a stirring performance of "Love Hope Strength," the signature tune of Mike's foundation. Better late than never, Epitaph has finally gotten around to announcing that they have signed Weezer. Here is the announcement with press comments from the band, with some album details (but minus the pre-sale pitch): Weezer have announced plans to release a new studio album entitled Hurley this September 14th on Epitaph Records. "So far we've had a really good creative collaboration with Brett Gurewitz and the other people at the label, and I'm looking forward to collaboration with other like-minded alternative music fans at the label," Rivers Cuomo recently shared with Los Angeles Times. Produced by Cuomo and Shawn Everett (Raditude, Phantom Planet, Ozomatli), Hurley is a high-energy rock album that wastes no time with the first single "Memories," an impassioned look at nostalgia with fast tempo, buzzing guitar riffs and killer hooky chorus. Subsequent songs include soon to be fan favorites "Ruling Me," "Trainwrecks," "Hang On" and "Brave New World." Rivers picks up the acoustic guitar on the reinvented power ballad "Unspoken" and the raw Sixties influenced, Mac Davis co-written "Time Flies." The classic Weezer sound is reignited with songs like "Smart Girls," "Run Away" and the quirky "Where's My Sex?" Fueled by a newfound sense of independence, Hurley finds the band making some of the most powerful and adventuresome music of their storied career.

"Six years of dormant hatred lay in pieces behind me and thousands of dead motherf***ers are walking around the thousand-times-dead f**king mother-city. And the dead exceed the living and will look after them in their own special way. And there was but one phrase on my tongue like a snake rolled on a shaft - 'Carry on, carrion... Carry on...'."
