Ozzy Wants To Form Non-Metal Band
Blabbermouth reports that Ozzy Osbourne told VH1 Radio Networks' Dave Basner that he fancies trying other genres of music aside from heavy metal.

"Being Ozzy Osbourne is great," he said. "I mean, it's been wonderful being the singer of Black Sabbath. Having all those hits through Sabbath and then on my solo career is one thing, but then if I want to do anything branching away from the heavy stuff, people will go, 'Oh, he's sold out. Oh, he's not doing it. Oh, he's singing a love song. Oh, he's singing about the…' or whatever."

Ozzy went on to reveal what kind of projects he's contemplating pursuing that would allow him to explore musical styles outside the heavy rock genre. "I would like to form a fictitious band just to make a different record, but it's the time it would take," he explained. "I mean, it takes me all my time just to do an Ozzy record. But I would dearly like to get a mini-supergroup together. Nothing like heavy rock, like a bluesy vibe." - more on this story

Steven Tyler Angers Aerosmith With American Idol Deal
American Idol producers are keeping mum on who will be the new judges for the show but a member of Aerosmith tells a major newspaper that Steven Tyler will be a judge on the show and Tyler's one time "Toxic Twin" isn't too happy about it.

Bryan Wawzenek of Gibson.com reports: Joe Perry told the Boston Herald that bandmate Steven Tyler will be a judge on the next season of American Idol. "We're told it's a done deal," the Aerosmith guitarist said. The claim backs up what Tyler's recent comment to press, that his plans include "recording an album and [I'm] probably going to be a judge on American Idol." The frontman then said, "I'm doing it. What do you think? I'm doing it."

SleazeRoxx expands on the Gibson report and we learn that Joe Perry is apparently not very happy about this news and how he found out about it. Quoting from the same Boston Herald interview: "I found out on the internet like the rest of the world... I mean, this is no small thing." Perry said. "I mean, after working with me for 40 years, he couldn't tell me about this... Why so secretive? We're told it's a done deal. If Steven is committed to a TV show, that kind of affects the rest of us. We'd like to plan our lives, ya know?" - more on this story

Steven Adler Blessed By Drugs
It appears that former Guns N' Roses Steven Adler has gained some perspective about his years of drug abuse. Rock Radio reports: Steven Adler believes the drug addiction which saw him being sacked from the biggest rock band in the world was a blessing in disguise.

And despite his Guns N' Roses bandmates sacking him in 1990, he insists he loves them all – especially singer Axl Rose. As a result, he's not bitter about his wasted opportunities. And now he's written it all down in a book, he's glad it all happened.

"Drugs is a biggie. It's been the biggest waste of my life – but I didn't know back then. We would have been even bigger without them – look how big we were and how big we are. The drugs held everything back," Adler tells ChartAttack. "My last 20 years sucked. I would trade it for anything – but then again, I wouldn't have my book. See? You never know. You think something is the worst thing in your life. But if that didn't happen the greatest things in your life wouldn't have happened." - He's not even close to done

Soundgarden Guitar Heroes With New Release
The Soundgarden reunion continues with the announcement of a new compilation that will include a previously unreleased track and the band will make history by being the first to bundle an album with a major video game. Here is the announcement:

Soundgarden will release their first collection of music since 1996 in the form of Telephantasm on September 28th in the US and September 27th internationally. This multi-label, career-spanning retrospective album includes beloved band hits, deep back catalogue cuts and a never-before-heard unreleased track entitled "Black Rain," taken from the Badmotorfinger recording sessions. Telephantasm marks the first time ever a collection of its kind has been collated in one place.

Like the iconic '60s and '70s bands which inspired them, Soundgarden redefined rock music for a whole generation and had a revolutionary impact on the course of musical history. As one of the first bands to release music on the venerated Sub Pop label, and the first band to come out of the 90's Seattle music scene to later sign to a major label, they are once again making history with Telephantasm. The band has announced that they will be partnering with innovative gaming publisher Activision Publishing, Inc. to release the album on September 28th via A&M/UMe inside 1 million copies of the new videogame Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock. This release marks the first time a music album will be simultaneously released and bundled with a video game launch. - more on this story

Def Leppard's Joe Elliot and Ian Hunter Brawl
Def Leppard frontman Joe Elliot and Ian Hunter had a little run in with ELP's crew at the High Voltage festival last Sunday where Elliot's side band Down 'N Outs were playing. Famed photographer Ross Halfin blogged the following about it:

Back to the far east in the afternoon for some Ian Hunter and Joe Elliott plus ELP who are closing the event with a seven-hour set. Jimmy came along to see Ian Hunter - surprisingly they have never met... Shot the end of Joe's set and was just getting into Ian Hunter when the power was pulled after two songs by ELP. Now if I say the situation was ugly that is an understatement. Joe Elliott and Ian Hunter got into an "altercation" with ELP's crew, fists flying. It ruined the whole day, a real bad 70's thug-like atmosphere. Jimmy and I went in to see Ian and offer our support and Joe was pragmatic, 'f*** it, what can you do?'

Doctor Anita, Jimmy, Peter, John Varvatos and a helpful Rick Canny (from ZZ Top) watched ELP from the crowd but by now the fun element had, well, soured is the best way to put it. Only John and I knew the songs, bits of Tarkus and long meandering pieces, the band had no cohesion. We left leaving ELP playing a piano concerto (it was getting dull) and drove back across London to console ourselves with a bucket of KFC - from ELP to KFC. Yes, that has a nice ring to it. "Welcome Back My Friends To The Bucket That Never Ends". - Check out the photos he mentioned on his blog
