Pink Spiders Frontman Goes Solo
PR reports: Former Pink Spiders frontman and songwriter Matt Friction has announced his plans to focus his creative energy on a new project: Matt Friction And The Cheap Shots.

With The Talking Heads' Jerry Harrison serving as producer, Friction and co. have been working to finish up The Cheap Shots' debut release, which the band has been recording at Sausalito Sound in Sausalito, CA.

"This project had been in the back of my mind for the past several years," explains Friction. "Once the new lineup was in place and a chemistry between us began to emerge, it was clear that this had to be its own thing and not a continuation of The Pink Spiders. While the style is always going to be familiar if the songs come from the same person, the overall sound has changed. It's important to me that this band have its own identity, and so it seemed natural to make a fresh start. It was time for a return to raw, stripped-down, organic rock n roll." - more on this story

Anvil Live Album Reissue
MMP reports: For some - a living legend of heavy metal, for others – a long forgotten relic of the past. Either way, there's no doubt that Anvil left a visible mark in the history of heavy music. Their legacy reaches all the way back to the 80's, when the group celebrated their biggest triumphs. Although Anvil's popularity eventually expired, the band remained true to their passion and against all the odds, kept recording new material for years to come. In January 2008 director and huge Anvil fan, Sacha Gervasi (known also as the writer of the blockbuster film "The Terminal") released his documentary about the band, called "Anvil! The Story of Anvil".

Filmed between 2005 and 2007, it showcased with brutal honesty Anvil's decline from greatness to obscurity. The documentary proved to be a big hit, winning thousands of hearts worldwide and getting raving reviews in the press. The Times called it "possibly the greatest film yet made about rock and roll". The movie brought Anvil back on the metal radar – in 2009 the band performed on the Download Festival and supported AC/DC on three shows during their "Black Ice" world tour.

This exclusive re-release brings back a truly exceptional live album. "Past and Present – Live in Concert" covers Anvil's most successful period and delivers some of their most memorable hits and is the perfect way to get to know one of the most remarkable and die-hard bands in the history of heavy metal! Metal Mind Productions will re-issue this album on 21st September (worldwide except for USA, Canada, South & Central America).

Kaspar Hauser Releases Theme Heavy New Album
PR reports: Chicago's Kaspar Hauser, named after a 19th century problem child, returns with The Sons, a follow-up to 2007's, Quixotic/Taxidermy. Aptly named, The Sons tackles themes of lineage and responsibility; drawing on biblical parables, American mythology and a history of irregular family estrangement (recently reconciled by the birth of singer/songwriter Thomas Comerford's son).

The resultant LP is a rollicking slice of Americana interwoven with blues and rock riffage courtesy of Comerford and fellow guitarist Stephen "The Kid" Howard (Quieting Syrup, Pinebender). Rounding out the group is Steve Kiraly (Reagan National Crash Diet) on drums and bassist Matt Seifert (Cool Devices). A glut of familiar Chicago musicians also guest on the album.

The Sons pulls gently from a long pedigree of influential rock, ranging from Neil Young to John Lennon to Son Volt and Chicago mainstays, Wilco. A guitar riff packing more fuzz than an afghan carries opener, "Not of This World" before "Mark of Cain" ups the ante with a contemporary retelling of the eponymous Biblical tale. After the album-opening one-two punch, the Lennon-ish "MacBeth II" catches you with the right hook and keeps the momentum going. Later, slide guitar and evocative Lou Reed vocals bankroll "Prodigal Son," another biblical reconstruction with Comerford as progenitor, confronting the wayward son.

A Different Breed Of Killer 5.1
PR reports: A Different Breed Of Killer have announced they are preparing their second full-length to be titled The City. The album will be produced by the band's drummer Nija Walker, who has been a student of recording technologies for 8 years, and worked directly under world-renowned mastering engineer Seva at SoundCurrent Mastering in Knoxville, TN.

The album will also be mastered by Jamie King (Between the Buried and Me) at The Basement Recording in Winston-Salem, NC. Also unique to this recording is plans to record, mix and master the entire album in Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround sound. The band stated "to our knowledge this is the first time this process has been applied to a death metal record."

While the band's first release I, Colossus (2008) was a concept album about a man made monster on a rampage, The City will also have a story more global in scale dealing with a city in post world war 3 North America. - more on this story

PR reports: This year, Taylor Guitars is set to commemorate its 35th anniversary with its most eclectic collection of limited edition guitars to date. From new models to premium versions of existing guitars featuring exotic grades of wood, the company will be crafting small quantities of each to celebrate. The first series of anniversary guitars to be released highlights the company's electric line, offering exotic tops in the SolidBody XXXV-SB-K (koa) and the XXXV-SB-QM (quilted maple); and in the semi-hollowbody T3 as the XXXV-T3-C (cocobolo) and XXXV-T3-K (koa).

SolidBody players will lust after the shimmering feathered koa top of the XXXV-SB-K and the buttery golden waves of quilted maple on the XXXV-SB-QM. The 35th Anniversary edition of the much-raved-about T3 gives players a choice of fiery-orange colored cocobolo (XXXV-T3-C) or rich, sparkling koa (XXXV-T3-K). These limited edition models feature bodies and necks crafted from sapele, ebony peghead overlays, chrome hardware and will feature the "35" anniversary inlay between the 11th and 12th frets. Introduced earlier this year, the T3 features Taylor's Style 2 HD pickups, three-way pickup switching, and coil-splitting that gives players a spectrum of humbucker and single coil sounds in one guitar. On the T3/B, an authentic Bigsby vibrato tailpiece is paired with a roller bridge for smooth functionality and an added dimension of sound.
