Rock Radio reports: Wrestling star Hulk Hogan tried to audition for Metallica and the Rolling Stones, he says in a new autobiography. The 56-year old explains how he made a living in his college days playing bass in a number of bands. And once he'd made it as a star in the ring, he wanted to be a star on the stage as well. When Metallica bassist Cliff Burton died in a bus crash in 1986 Hogan decided he'd like to fill the gap, and made contact with Lars Ulrich and co. Hogan tells the Chicago Tribune: "When Metallica was looking for a bass player I called – and never heard a word back. I would have quit wrestling in a heartbeat to be the bass player for Metallica." An early 1990s bid to replace Bill Wyman in the Stones also fell flat

PR reports: Acclaimed post-hardcore heavy rockers Norma Jean signs with Razor & Tie and plans a 2010 album release. Cory Brandan of Norma jean comments, "If we didn't sign to Razor & Tie, I think we would have gone on a killing spree, with no regard for life or limb. I think for the first time in our career, upon presenting our ideas, we get to hear the word "yes" more often. It's like discovering an unknown tribe on a distant island. Except we're the tribe and we don't know your language. Plus we have spears and swords and we're cannibals. Either way, we're insanely animated about R&T showing up and want to try on their Nike Air Jordans. "

Music Radar reports: Neil Peart has taken to his website to discuss to state of Rush. According to the acclaimed drummer, the band will convene in Los Angeles very soon to discuss their next recording, the follow-up to 2007's Snakes & Arrows. "These are parlous times in the music business, so our time-honored pattern of touring, recording and touring is no longer the obvious way to do things."""The music world - or at least the business of it - is very different now, even since 2006, when we began work on Snakes & Arrows," he continues. "The importance of 'the album' is not what it was, and there is currently a reversion to a musical climate rather like the 1950s, when only 'the song' matters," he wrote. "Radio, downloads and 'shuffle' settings are inimical to collected works. Because of that reality, record company advances that used to pay for album projects are a thing of the past, so if that was what we wanted to do, we'd be on our own... "To this point, the three of us haven't even discussed what we might discuss, so to speak - so our ideas and shared enthusiasm for the entity of Rush will be fresh, spontaneous and quite likely exciting. For myself, I'm open to anything we can all agree on (I've pointed out before that in a three-piece band, we need consensus, not democracy - it's no good having one outvoted and unhappy member)."

PR reports: The word is out: Everclear is back, better than ever, and ready to re-connect with their audience. Frontman Art Alexakis has gone back to basics: recruiting a new band, releasing In A Different Light, a new album that reinterprets the Everclear songbook with some fresh surprises, and finally returning to the road, to the delight of fans nationwide. Alexakis says, "It's so amazing to see the enthusiasm and intensity of our fans.....not to mention the diversity in age...they range from 15 to 50...it's great to see kids who were in middle school singing all the words to every song!" In A Different Light is the band's first release on record label 429 Records, and, in celebration, finds the band revisiting their past work with refreshed, stripped-down arrangements of some of their best songs. Classics such as "Everything to Everyone," "Santa Monica," and "Father of Mine" stand comfortably alongside new tracks "At the End of The Day" and "Here Comes the Darkness." Like many rock greats before them, Everclear revisits their back pages with ease, intrigue, and a more mature perspective, making for an album that is a listening experience in itself.

PR reports: Motion City Soundtrack have revealed the details of their major label debut – My Dinosaur Life today. It's official, the album – produced by Blink-182's Mark Hoppus and mixed by the legendary Andy Wallace (Nirvana, Sonic Youth, Kaiser Chiefs) – will be released on January 19th, 2010 on Columbia Records. In addition, they have released the final track listing for the new album (see below) and revealed the incredible cover art by renowned collectible toy artist Joe Ledbetter (www.joeledbetter.com) – also responsible for the entire album art. My Dinosaur Life is the exciting next chapter for Motion City Soundtrack. The band – Justin Pierre, Joshua Cain, Matt Taylor, Tony Thaxton, and Jesse Johnson – first jumped onto the scene with their 2002 debut I Am the Movie (Epitaph). They followed this up with 2005's Commit This to Memory (Epitaph). Also produced by Mark Hoppus, Commit This to Memory debuted at #72 on the Billboard 200 and has gone on to sell more than 300,000 copies. It garnered raves from Spin, Rolling Stone, Entertainment Weekly, and Blender among others and found Motion City Soundtrack making their late night TV debut on Late Night with Conan O'Brien. In 2007, MCS released Even If It Kills Me (Epitaph), a markedly poppier endeavor that found them working with producers Adam Schlesinger, Eli Janney and Ric Ocasek. This third release debuted at #16 on the Billboard 200 and once again, the critics weighed in favorably – Alternative Press featured them on the cover of their "Most Anticipated" issue, the New York Times claimed "they made an album that sounds like one long sugar rush, and so long as the rush lasts, it sounds pretty great" and SPIN proclaimed the album as "near perfect pop." In the Fall of 2008 Motion City Soundtrack further showcased their talents when they released alternative versions of five songs off Even If It Kills Me as an iTunes exclusive. The culturally acclaimed hit TV series Gossip Girl featured the alternative version of "Fell In Love Without You'" in their season premiere that fall.

antiMusic reports: Welcome to Singled Out! where we ask artists to tell us the inside story of their latest single. Today Stephen from Love and Theft tells us about "Runaway" from their brand new album "World Wide Open". We now turn it over to Stephen for the story:We all agreed unanimously on this for the first single. It means a lot to all of us because we all picked up and left our hometowns, dropped out of college and left everything to pursue our country music dreams. This song is about reaching that breaking point where you actually decide to leave behind a negative part of your life, whether it be an unhealthy relationship or a job or a hometown and pursue something different, something new and positive. It's about that point where you stop talking about it and you actually do it. That's what we all did. If we hadn't all been runaways, we wouldn't be here right now. Life is too short to not enjoy the journey. Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself and learn more about the album
