Slash Will Rock American Idol
antiMusic reports: Slash will indeed appear on next week's "rock week" on American Idol. The former Guns N' Roses and current Velvet Revolver guitarist will act as a mentor to the pop singing contestants.

Slash is apparently looking forward to the experience and had a Man of La Mancha moment of dreaming the impossible dream when he wrote the following on Twitter, "I'm going to attempt to make 'Rock Week' on 'American Idol' exactly that."

Good luck with that Slash! He will apparently be aided in the endeavor in some fashion by Alice Cooper and Ex Slash's Snake Pit guitarist Keri Kelli according Blabbermouth. You can read their report right - here

Grand Theft Tour Bus
PR reports: The Dears' tour bus was stolen Wednesday night in Montreal as the band was home packing for their six-week North American tour. The coach was taken from the parking lot of the Comfort Inn at 700 Blvd. in St. Jean, Pointe-Claire while the driver was asleep in the hotel, prior to their 6 a.m. scheduled departure.

Fortunately, no luggage or gear was on board at the time of the theft and the band's trailer was left behind. True to The Dears' resilient nature, the veteran band isn't letting this minor mishap slow them down and will kick off the tour tonight in Toronto. All shows are planned as scheduled.

If anybody has any information about the stolen tour bus or knows of its whereabouts please contact your local authorities. Bus model: Prevost, Series 60. Accuride Alcoa; license plate: V957YW - more on this story

The Killers Want To Knock Led Zeppelin And Nirvana Off Their Pedestals
MusicRadar reports: Killers frontman Brandon Flowers blames American rock fans "obsessed" with Led Zeppelin and Nirvana for stunting his band's stateside progress [he might want to look at his label's PR peeps promotion efforts or lack of such and maybe make music on par with such artists]. Speaking to NME, Flowers expressed frustration with American audiences who apparently "don't believe that it's possible that anybody else can be the real deal".

"We've been embraced in Britain in a way that I'll never understand, and it's such a wonderful thing," says Flowers, "But over here people are still so obsessed with Led Zeppelin and Nirvana, those sorts of bands, that nobody else is allowed [to grow]."

He also claims that The Killers aren't the only band to suffer: "It's not just us; there are a lot of great bands that have been held down or confined by the influence of these people that we've put up on pedestals. I'm tired of it, you know? I just want to knock them all off! And people don't like that attitude." [Been hanging around Kanye West a bit too much perhaps?] - more killer comedy here

Punk and Metal Fans Don't Buy New Music from Classic Bands? This according to veterans of each genre. We start with D.R.I. guitarist Spike Cassidy who tells Morbid Zine why the classic punk rockers haven't released a new studio album since 1995 "I think there was many reasons. Full Speed Ahead did not sell many copies. Why would the next record?! Our fans really didn't want a new record; they just wanted to hear their old favorites from the '80s over and over again. We didn't mind playing them for them." more

On the metal front, Queensryche frontman Geoff Tate tells Goldmine Mag, "We don't make any money selling records anymore. Very few people do. We still love doing it and still do it, but we do it differently. Money comes from other places. It's not just showing up; you've got to go look for it and figure out ways of making money." more

The Mother of All Top 10 Lists
Submitted News reports: In honor of Mother's Day, Momlogic.com asked thousands of women in the momlogic community "What's YOUR 'Mom Song'?" Here are the winning tunes! They empower, entertain or just make us mush -- but one thing remains -- the second we became mom, they took on new meaning. Whether you love top 40, country, or kid-friendly tunes, we all have that song that makes us go "shhhh, this is my song!"

Topping the list is mom Lee Ann Womack's song "I Hope You Dance." Written by Tia Sillers and Mark Sanders, the duo says the song is about taking chances and not being afraid to try something new -- something that strikes a chord with moms. But it wasn't all famous artists who made the top 10. YouTube superstar Anita Renfroe's Momisms, the popular song set to the William Tell Overture, was a big hit among our community moms.

Momlogic reached out to Renfroe to get her reaction, she was almost as excited as we are! "I am totally honored to have made this list! What I love about this is the sense of community it illustrates. Prior to my song going viral on YouTube all the other things that ended up "viral" in our household had been a negative outcome that ended up with cans of disinfectant spray. But when moms love something (like a wacky song that makes them feel better) they immediately want to share it with other moms. That's how we roll -- we are connectors. And, as I probably will never win an American Music Award, I will consider this my personal AMA (American MOM Award!). - check out the lists

A Queen Guitar Lesson at a King's Price
Google/AFP reports: Queen guitarist Brian May is to give his first ever private lesson after a punter bid over 7,500 pounds (roughly $11K) to jam with the star in an auction to raise money for Brazilian street children.

The rock legend, best known for creating the riffs on "Bohemian Rhapsody" and "We Will Rock You," will deliver a two-hour tutorial at his home following the auction in London late Wednesday, which raised over 30,000 pounds.

Along with bidding for the lesson, nine guitars that were custom-designed by leading street artists in Brazil and Britain were auctioned in aid of the Action for Brazil's Children (ABC) charity, of which May and fellow axe-man Jimmy Page are both patrons. - more on this story

Metal Church, Savatage and Trans Siberian Orchestra Supergroup Coming
Chipster reports: Meet Machines of Grace. They are the latest among the gifted hard rock/heavy metal bands born from Boston's thriving music scene. As with their Beantown bred forefathers, (Aerosmith, Extreme, Godsmack, Dropkick Murphys) Zak Stevens (lead vocals), Jeff Plate (drums), Matt Leff (guitar) and Chris Rapoza (bass) have concocted their own proprietary formula for whiplash on a disc.

Top shelf status comes from the experience of successfully headlining major tours and support from a monumental fan base. Drummer Jeff (Trans Siberian Orchestra, Savatage, Metal Church) Plate and lead singer Zak (Circle II Circle, Savatage) Stevens have the resume to help catapult Machines of Grace into the monsters of rock realm.

The divine mix of such magnanimous talent can convert even the most stubborn music critic. Why? The method to their madness is embedded in the music… "It's just a pure, solid melodic rock sound," offers Stevens. "It has infectious grooves and its own brand of outright power. To me, it's got great songwriting with a hard rock edge and strong commercial appeal." - more on this story

Lamb Of God Star Going To The Races
PR reports: This Saturday, May 2, Lamb Of God guitarist Mark Morton will be taking part in an NHRA racing event in St. Louis, MO in support of race car driver and metal fan Shawn Langdon. Morton will be there at the starting line for Langdon's races at the O'Reilly NHRA Midwest Nationals Presented by Castrol at GIR.

"I'm thrilled about my upcoming trip to the O'Reilly NHRA Midwest Nationals!" said Morton. "As a life-long race fan and a drag racer myself, I couldn't be more excited at this opportunity to get an up close look at some of the world's greatest drivers and crews going head to head."

"I actually have their new album 'Wrath' on my iPod and I listen to them before I race to get me pumped up," adds Langdon. "Ever since I found out about this visit, I've been excited. At least the loud noise won't be a problem, but I bet we'll still send a shock any way. It's impossible to prepare for 8,000 horsepower and I can't wait to get 'em on the starting line and show them what we do." - Additional information on the event can be found here.
