Regina Spektor Going far Later This Month
PR reports: Sire Records is thrilled for the upcoming worldwide release of far, the highly anticipated new album from Regina Spektor. An artist known for an acute sense of detail both in music and words, Spektor continues to showcase her amazing ability to turn the ordinary into the extraordinary on far, which is set for a June 23rd US release and globally June 22nd.

Spektor's first single, "Laughing With," is a perfect example of how she allows each enunciated word (or wordless vocal interjection) and each finger on the piano keys, to tell a fascinating story, that is both visionary and gripping. The response to "Laughing With" has been overwhelming; the video shot up to #1 on iTunes' alternative video chart within it's first 24 hours and the song was met with immediate approval among fans, resulting in over 500,000 plays and a tremendous amount of action on message boards. Spektor will perform "Laughing With" on Good Morning America on release day (6/23) and The Late Show with David Letterman on June 26th. Before embarking on a European tour that begins at The Glastonbury Festival on June 26th, Spektor will headline New York City's Beacon Theatre on June 17th.

Spektor's remarkable gift to craft intelligent and refreshingly honest odes to life has been captured by long-time friend, photographer / filmmaker / visual designer Adria Petty, with a series of viral videos that will be released up until release day. The first three, for songs "Dance Anthem of the 80's," "Man of a Thousand Faces" and "Eet," can now be seen on MySpace and other sites. - more on this story

Flying Machines in September
EMI reports: Mix a singer/keyboardist who grew up on Queen, Billy Joel, Andrew Lloyd Weber and Ben Folds 5 with a guitarist steeped in Black Sabbath, Zeppelin and the Strokes, and the result is the dramatic, unique pop-rock-indie stylings that distinguish Flying Machines. As guitarist John Wlaysewski explains, "You get my abrasive dark metal and William's beautiful singer-songwritery thing. He brings the beauty, I bring the rock."

Inspiring apt and complimentary comparisons to Queen, Muse, Killers, the Police, and Keane, on its 10-song debut, Flying Machines mesh musical intellect with soul-searching lyrical acuity and passion. And they're also happy to bring back the guitar solo.

Flying Machines, in stores on September 8th, produced by Spencer Proffer and Steve Plunkett and mixed by Grammy Award-winner Tom Weir (No Doubt, Weezer, Tom Morello), is a revelation. William Ryan George's highly trained yet impassioned vocals are transporting, with the propulsive rhythm section of bassist Evan Joyce and drummer Ken Weisbach creatively anchoring the guitar and vocals. As producer/manager Proffer notes, "I hope that Flying Machines will bring the public back into a modern incarnation of great classic rock pop music, written by amazing live and ultra-musical bands such as Queen and Genesis, with the musicality of Yes and Rush." - more on this story

Spookey Ruben Releases New Album, Announces Tour
PR reports: Hi-Hat Recordings artist Spookey Ruben returns to delight us once again with his knack for colouring outside current musical trends: June 2nd marked the release of Mechanical Royalty (via Sonic Unyon), an album that skips merrily through the garden of musical genres, playing tribute to everything from Yacht Rock to death metal.

At the heart of the album lies the seven chapter prog rock epic 16min title track where Spookey Ruben tackles a genre forever riddled with ridicule. With its 12-keyboards-and-a-robe-with-a-30-ft-dragon-on-stage guise, Spookey, historically attracted to projects that absolutely don't fit in the hipster category, manages to tantalize once again with his latest piθce de rιsistance.

Mechanical Royalty (a pun, alluding not only to the album cover and storyline of the title track, but also to a music business term) is an intense 70s/80s rollercoaster ride, but its Spookey's point of view that makes it feel inviting and brand new, consistently dishing up his excitement for music in his own special heartfelt way. - more on this story

Great Lake Swimmers North American Dates
PR reports: When Great Lake Swimmers' Tony Dekker wrote the song "Everything is Moving So Fast," he couldn't have predicted that it would foreshadow the rapid success of the Toronto band's fourth album, Lost Channels.

For a project that has seen a slow upward trajectory since its humble beginnings in 2001, the Great Lake Swimmers are suddenly getting exponentially more attention across North America and Europe, entrancing newcomers to the band with Dekker's unforgettable voice and compelling songwriting.

Now fresh from an acclaimed tour of the UK and Europe, the band is set to return to the road once more across North America. To celebrate their return to native soil, iTunes released a brand new Live Session EP on June 2nd - more on this story

Municipal Waste Aggressive Cover
Earache reports: The Richmond, VA crossover leaders, Municipal Waste have a new album coming out on August 25th. Entitled Massive Aggressive, this album brings the promise of the band's most ferocious and most focused album of their career. With such ferocity flowing through the whole of the album, the band knew they needed the right visuals to compliment the vibe of the music. According to Municipal Waste vocalist, Tony Foresta, the only man who could get that imagery just right was Andrei Bouzikov, the artist responsible for the cover to 2007's The Art Of Partying.

"We wanted to work with Andrei Bouzikov again because he is like a
brother to us;" says the Municipal Waste vocalist. "He is one of the few people that can tolerate me and Ryan's insane pickiness and attention to detail. Not only that but he is multi talented and can do many different styles of art and understands exactly where we are coming from."

The attitude on Massive Aggressive is quite different than any other Municipal Waste record and the band needed the artwork to make it apparent from the very first glance. "We knew we wanted to stray away from the traditional painted covers that so many new "Thrash" bands seem to be doing since Hazardous Mutation came out;" says Tony. "We wanted the artwork to go a different direction the same way that our music has. I think we have achieved it." Overall, Tony and the rest of the band feel it's a perfect representation of where the band is today and show much gratitude for how it turned out. "I'm really happy with it. It's my favorite one yet. Thanks Andre!"

Mike Kotulka Goes Soph Next Month
PR reports: Empty-K will be releasing Mike Kotulka's sophomore album Hi-Lows on July 7th.

Originally from Lansdale, Pennsylvania a small hardworking suburb just north of Philadelphia, Mike grew up in a tightly knit middle class family with four brothers and 29 first cousins. It was his two older brothers however, who introduced him to some of his biggest musical influences.

The sounds of The Who, Led Zeppelin, and The Grateful Dead were frequently leaking through their walls into his ears. More influences soon followed like Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton, Neil Young and the great Elvis Presley. At around this time (age 10), he took up piano which eventually led down the line for him to buy a guitar of his own. From that point on everyday was guitar and every sound was music.

Mike will be touring in support of Hi-Lows throughout the summer. -

Echo Screen Release New EP
PR reports: New Jersey pop-rockers Echo Screen are back with their third record, an EP titled Goodbye Old Life, slated to drop August 4th. The five new songs were produced by Ace Enders (of The Early November fame), and will be released via the band's own label, ES Music.

"I liked them a lot because they weren't into sticking to just one thing or type of music," said Enders of Echo Screen in a recent interview with The Aquarian. "They're all about making what feels right and what they're into and what's going to be best for the songs. I like when bands have an open mind and aren't worried about trends."

Echo Screen's new EP will be accompanied by plenty of bonus material, including cover songs, unreleased tracks, demos from their previous full-length Euphoria, and live recordings.

. Lecherous Nocturne - The Age of Miracles Has Passed
Lecherous Nocturne's idea of bland technical death metal has no hope. For something so unoriginal, could one ever look at this lame CD and actually enjoy its content? I severely doubt a single soul could. - Read the full Lecherous Nocturne - The Age of Miracles Has Passed review
