Dream Theater's Jordan Rudess Sets Solo Release
Submitted News reports: Critically acclaimed keyboard artist, and Dream Theater band member Jordan Rudess is proud to announce the release of his new solo CD, Notes on a Dream, featuring his unique and innovative piano interpretations of nine of Dream Theater's favorite ballads, and three completely original solo piano instrumentals.

Jordan Rudess first gained national exposure when the readers of Keyboard Magazine voted him 1994's Best New Talent in the Overall Best Keyboardist category after his first solo release Listen. Steven Wilson of Porcupine Tree calls Notes on a Dream, "Amazingly beautiful. Reminds me of the very best of Keith Jarrett's piano music, and that's about as big compliment as I can give to anything!" Rich Wilson, contributing writer to the UK's Classic Rock Magazine, and Dream Theater biographer and author of Lifting Shadows: The Authorized Biography of Dream Theater, states "...his work is simply stunning and one that deserves to be heard by a larger audience than just DT fans…" and "…an album that is elegant, adventurous and the work of a modern day genius." Composer, musician, and former Director of Kurzweil Pro Products, Chris Martirano, states, "Jordan proves the piano is the ultimate acoustic vehicle! Notes On A Dream is a master work."

Since 1999, Jordan has been an integral member of and creative driving force behind Dream Theater, the most critically-acclaimed progressive hard rock band in the world. Jordan states, "The Dream Theater songs on Notes on a Dream feature a diverse range of tracks that were written both before I joined the band, as well during my time with the band. While there have been many interpretations of Dream Theater songs recorded by other bands and artists, I thought it would be interesting, as a member of the band, to recreate these songs in my own unique, personal style." Chris Martirano, continues, describing one of Jordan's three originals tracks, an intricate, progressive musical adventure designed to feature Jordan's virtuosic chops, called The Grand Escapement, as "tipping a nod to an Emersoneque/Bartok/Prokofiev fiery work full of difficult passages with heavy counterpoint: amazing dexterity and independence." - more on this story

Butterfly Boucher Tour Plans Include The Wallflowers and Sarah McLachlan
MSO reports: Singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Butterfly Boucher is leading up to the official September 15 Nettwerk release of her second album Scary Fragile—which is enjoying early critical acclaim—with a diverse array of shows.

Known for her edgy mix of soaring pop-rock melodies and unflinchingly intimate lyrics, delivered with her trademark vocal dexterity, the Australian native and Nashville-based artist has set two additional shows in the NYC area--Wednesday, July 29 at the Bell House in Brooklyn (with Mark Eitzel and Hotel Lights) and a solo set Monday, August 3 in NYC at the Living Room—beyond her previously announced Thursday, July, 30 performance in lower Manhattan at the Housing Works Bookstore Café with Erika Wennerstrom of Heartless Bastards.

Butterfly will follow those gigs with a one-off performance Wednesday, August 5 with Sarah McLachlan at the Edmonton Folk Festival in Ontario before she opens five dates for The Wallflowers--in Knoxville, Nashville, Asheville, Charleston and Washington, D.C--beginning Saturday, August 29 - more on this story

The Band of Heathens Set Album Release and Austin City Limits Appearance
conqueroo reports: The Band of Heathens' self-titled studio debut album brought the band from relative obscurity to playing 250-plus shows a year for their rabid fan base, as well as a coveted taping for this year's 35th Anniversary season of Austin City Limits.

The album hit No. 1 on the Americana Music Association Radio chart, spending two weeks in the top spot against formidable competition. It charted a total of 34 weeks in the U.S., held No. 1 for two months on the Euro-Americana chart, and was No. 8 on the AMA's Top 100 albums of 2008 list.

How does a band follow a year like that? Indeed the bar has been set high. But one listen to the new album, One Foot in the Ether, due out September 15 on BOH Records through Redeye Distribution, makes apparent that the Heathens' three-frontman approach to writing and performing over the past three years has paid off in the studio. Apart from the confidence necessary to pull off releasing two live albums before releasing 2008's debut studio record, it's evident that their unorthodox career strategy suits them well. - more on this story

The Decemberists Hitting The Road
EMI reports: The Decemberists have announced Fall dates for their "A Short Fazed Hovel" 2009 tour. The tour, which features a full performance of their acclaimed new album The Hazards of Love, has been earning rave reviews as it crosses the United States from coast to coast, including sold-out performances at Radio City Music Hall in New York City, the Edgefield Winery in their hometown of Portland, Oregon, and stand-out performances at major summer festivals including Sasquatch and Bonnaroo.

The band will also be performing this year at the Newport Folk Festival, Lollapalooza, Austin City Limits Music Festival and Treasure Island Music Festival.

NPR Music will be live webcasting and broadcasting The Decemberists' performance at the Newport Folk Festival on August 1, which will not be The Hazards of Love, but instead a special set for the festival. The band's performance and interview on World Cafe aired on July 24, and is now featured on the NPR Music website. - more on this story

(Hed)pe and Mushroomhead Gain Support
Kerosene reports: Knoxville, TN, quintet Straight Line Stitch and Japanese hard rock outfit Supe have been added as support acts to the upcoming "Hed To Head" tour featuring (Hed)pe and Mushroomhead. The trek kicks off August 11TH in Sauget, IL.

The 'Hed to Head' tour is a great opportunity to work with two of the hardest working bands over the last 10 years, Mushroomhead and Hed(pe)," commented Alexis Brown of Straight Line Stitch. "They know how to kill every town they hit. We are definitely cut from the same metal cloth having toured for years ourselves and aspire to achieve the sorts of successes they have had in their respective careers."

Armed with an unstoppable work ethic and a musical vocabulary that stretches from face-ripping metal to soulful rock, Straight Line Stitch are poised to grab heavy music by the horns with their Raging Nation/KOCH Records debut, "When Skies Wash Ashore". The group's eclectic mixture of melodic metalcore has allowed them to open for the likes of DevilDriver, Napalm Death, Bleed The Sky and 36 Crazyfists.
