Adrenaline reports: On January 9th, 2009, 36 Crazyfists filmed their very first live DVD in their hometown of Anchorage, Alaska. The effort, aptly titled "Underneath A Northern Sky" was directed by good friend Todd Bell, who joined the band for a weeks worth of revisiting old stomping grounds, listening to stories of the formation of the band and all the antics that come along with a band who is in their 15th year and counting. Look for Underneath A Northern Sky to hit stores October 27, 2009! "Anchorage, Alaska has a small music scene," explains vocalist Brock Lindow. "Pretty much everyone knows each other. Growing up in here, shaped us to be aware of the beauty of isolation and creating your own self. We had MTV just like everyone else, but as people, we adapted to dark winters and summers where the sun never went down. That in itself created so many amazing rituals and memories of the season." The DVD will include footage of the very first 36 Crazyfists show as well as countless other rare scenes of globetrotting by a band from Alaska who has defied the odds of coming from a place of obscurity to touring and playing major festivals around the world. Along with the live show, ridiculous backstage antics and band member interviews, all the bands videos are also present on the DVD.

PR reports: Voyageur Press has joined forces with renowned rock journalist Jim DeRogatis (Chicago Sun-Times) for the forthcoming book, The Velvet Underground: An Illustrated History of A Walk on the Wild Side. This beautifully packaged tome ? the first complete illustrated history published on the seminal New York band ? arrives Sept. 15, 2009 to celebrate the 45th anniversary of the group's founding with the perfect balance of text and many never-before-seen photos. The glorious 192-page volume retraces the history of the band which almost single-handedly created what is now commonly referred to as punk and alternative music, thanks in large part to Lou Reed's poetic-yet-streetwise lyrics, and music that alternated between white noise and gentle beauty.

PR reports: When Columbia Records released Songs from Stamford Hill in 2000 it looked like James Maddock was destined for stardom. All the benchmarks of burgeoning success were there; a top 5 Triple A radio song, prominent placements in TV/Film, inclusion on the first Dawson's Creek compilation, and extensive touring with the likes of Paula Cole and Train. Although James created a small base of rabid fans, he didn't achieve the wide recognition he deserved. One of the burning questions in the music business over the last few years has been, "Whatever happened to James Maddock and Wood and why didn't he ever make another record"? The story of James Maddock over the last 10 years has been one of pain and persistence. The brass ring was within his grasp. He relocated to the U.S., got married, and made another record for Columbia. And then it all fell apart. His personal and professional life unraveled at a rapid pace. He found himself in a new country, divorced, and to add to the insult, Columbia decided to not release the follow-up to Songs from Stamford Hill. James was unceremoniously dropped from the label. A lesser man would have been broken by the experience, but James rallied on amid the ruins. What James now has to show for the detour from major label to the present, is an extraordinary set of songs embodied in his new album Sunrise on Avenue C. In the age of the track, James has made a real album with a beginning and an end. Vin Scelsa of WFUV and Sirius/XM puts it this way; "I fell head over heels in love with James Maddock's music around the turn of the century when his band Wood released Songs From Stamford Hill. My heart broke when James seemed to disappear completely from the music scene without a follow-up. From time to time I would search for him on the Internet, to no avail, and play the songs from Wood's only album with a bittersweet ache that matched the mood of the music. Imagine then how thrilled I was to discover at the end of the decade James was living and working right under my nose in New York City, far below the radar, honing his skills, biding his time. Then understand how exhilarated and thoroughly gladdened I became upon hearing his new songs, heartbreakingly beautiful, exquisitely crafted, which pick right up where Stamford Hill left off. James Maddock's talent has a timeless quality he shares with the great songwriters. His music touches the soul. How happy I am to have him back on the radar screen ... the world at large needs artists like this."

PR reports: Australia's The Grates are set to release their sophomore album Teeth Lost, Hearts Won on September 15th via Thirty Tigers/Dew Process. The 13-song album was produced by Peter Katis (Interpol, The National) at Tarquin Studios in Connecticut and features guest appearances by Kori Gardner of Mates of State (vocals on "Milk Eyes") and Tim Fite (vocals on "Not Today"). On this album, the follow up to their 2006 Interscope Records debut, Gravity Won't Get You High, The Grates have brought a depth and density to the songwriting - the lyrics are raw and poignant and the sonics more biting and aggressive. "If Teeth Lost, Hearts Won was a beast, I imagine it'd be like something from Where The Wild Things Are," lead singer and front woman Patience says. "They're big and scary, but they've also got this sensitivity, and pick up the little kid and protect him." Drummer Alana adds, "Or maybe like the griffin In Alice In Wonderland. He's like a lion and eagle together, but a really gentle creature."

Submitted News reports: The Red Channels have long been tuned into something special, but on Ghetto Cooking, the band's new album, the signal is picture perfect! More evolution than a departure from their earlier work, Ghetto Cooking finds the group having mastered the art of uncanny, atmospheric songwriting, and now exploring the edges of their odd, dark world.Formed in Oklahoma City, the earliest incarnation of The Red Channels began as an instrumental five-piece led by guitarist and songwriter Ryan M. Block. Focused on extremely repetitive, reverb-drenched melodies and rhythms, the very underage group soon found themselves playing along side the likes of Man or Astro-man? and Mr. Quintron and Miss Pussycat. The group then found their voice as keyboardist Elaina Azari began to add her haunting lyrics over the songs further evolving their increasingly exotic sound. Finally, on a show with noise makers Wolf Eyes the name The Red Channels was christened. As it goes, members of the band fell away to do things that make money, leaving the determined core of Block and Azari to record their debut 7" and self-titled full length. The self-titled album was released by San Diego's Silver Girl Records in 2003; it delighted and confused critics everywhere drawing comparisons from Mazzy Star to the greats of 4AD's early catalog. The duo relocated to Portland, Oregon recruiting bassist Joel Rasmussen and violinist Anne Marie Hoffman where they spent three years creating their double-length masterpiece, Lonely Melting Iceberg. Again their efforts scored critical acclaim ,but the album suffered the fate of poor distribution.
