Crue Fest Going on Hiatus
Billboard reports: After a successful two-year start-up, Motley Crue's Crue Fest may take a year off in order to allow the band to record its next album.

"We have about a month left (of this year's Crue Fest 2) and then we're going to be taking quite a bit of time off," Crue bassist Nikki Sixx tells Billboard.com. "I feel like we're ending being out for quite a long time, touring and 'Saints of Los Angeles' and the Carnival of Sins (tour) and 'Red, White & Crue'...really going away on a big high to start working on writing a new record and looking forward to the next Crue Fest, which'll probably be in 2011."

But Sixx adds that there's a possibility that future Crue Fests could even hit the road without the namesake band on the bill.

Bill Champlin Leaves Chicago
PR reports: After 28 years with Chicago, singer-songwriter-keyboardist Bill Champlin is parting ways with the classic jazz/rock band to focus once again on his solo career. The announcement comes on the heels of the August 4th release of No Place Left to Fall, Champlin's first solo album in more than 10 years. The two-time GRAMMY award winner will launch a West Coast tour on November 6th at the Coach House in San Juan Capistrano, CA.

"This music is callin' me," said Champlin, who first came to prominence with Sons of Champlin, a seminal late-60's San Francisco band whose soul stylings and complex song structures set it apart from other groups of the psychedelic scene, and a series of critically acclaimed solo albums.

From the funky "Total Control" and soulful "Lookin' For You" to the exquisite "Never Been Afraid" and the kick-ass come-on "Angelina," No Place Left to Fall is a career-defining record for Champlin. Released by the East Coast indie label DreamMakers, the CD is accompanied by a 70-minute bonus DVD that includes a documentary on the making of the album directed by news anchor and longtime fan Rod Simons, live footage of Champlin performing recently with the Sons of Champlin and much more. Champlin has already begun readying material for a follow-up album and fans can look forward to more music from Sons of Champlin as well.

Radiohead Singer Says Another Album Would Kill Band
Launch reports: Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke has hinted that the band aren't currently planning to release another album conventionally. The singer said that he still had a lot of time for the album as an artform, but explained that to release another batch of songs in that format would "kill" Radiohead.

"None of us want to go into that creative hoo-ha of a long-play record again. Not straight off," he told The Believer magazine. "I mean, it's just become a real drag. It worked with [2007 album] 'In Rainbows' because we had a real fixed idea about where we were going. But we've all said that we can't possibly dive into that again. It'll kill us."

Instead, he hinted that the band may release new music via EPs or online (as they did with new song 'Harry Patch (In Memory Of)' on August 5).

Surprise Swell Metallica B-Side
Punknews.org reports: The Swellers have accidentally appeared on a split release with Metallica. As drummer/vocalist Jonathan Diener explains in his blog: Today we received our test pressings from Paper & Plastick for our new 7" with the songs "Welcome Back Riders" and "Montreal Screwjob"...

Side A was awesome, the song sounded great. Then we flipped it, put the needle on, then heard applause… we didn't have that on our song. Then we hear "I am iron man" …what the fuck?

We then realized, it was Metallica covering the song "Iron Man" by Black Sabbath on both copies of the 7" instead of our song "Montreal Screwjob".

The Used Hitting The Road
ESM reports: The Used have announced a nationwide headlining fall tour. The month-long run, which kicks off October 9th in Las Vegas, NV and runs through November 14th in Portland, Oregon, will support their new album, Artwork, out August 31, 2009. The Almost and TK will be supporting.

Early critical acclaim for the Matt Squire-produced Artwork has been effusive. Outburn (which the band currently graces the cover of) praised its "humbling ability to sound scrappy and raw while being perfectly polished and huge," while Alternative Press states "The Used have delivered not only the definitive album of their career but arguably one of the best records you'll hear in 2009. 4 ˝ stars."

The Used's legions of fans are responding as well. The first single, "Blood On My Hands" premiered on iTunes with over 5k downloads in the first day, the highest digital debut in the band's history. The video for the song debuted on MySpace and shot directly to the #1 spot, with 200,00 views in the first 24 hours. The band is one of MySpace's Top 15 artists, with over 100,000 streams a day on the site. The second track to premiere on iTunes will be "Born To Quit." It will be released on August 11th.

Singled Out: Gwar
antiMusic reports: Welcome to Singled Out! where we ask artists to tell us the inside story of their latest single. Today Gwar's Beefcake the Mighty gives us the story behind "Let Us Stay," off the band's new album "Lust in Space," which hits stores next week! Now here is the story, enjoy!

It was week 12 in the rehearsal chamber of our Antarctican stronghold, and we hadn't played a single note. For 3 months we did nothing but celebrate the epic record we hadn't written yet with feasts and orgies that would shame Caligula. As a matter of fact I do believe him saying how ashamed he was at some point during the debauchery. Anyway it was a wonderful party and everyone had a bang up time! Oh, wait. This is about the song. I digress...

At some point in the festivities, our manager Sleazy (Killjoy, as I call him) turned on the lights and kicked everyone but GWAR out. Apparently the party was over. Apparently we were grossly overbudget and months behind schedule on the record we hadn't even started. As our guests were given their hats and coats and ushered out of the top tower window, Oderus protested to Sleazy saying "let them stay!" Balsac misheard this and started chanting "let us slay" and the rest of us followed suit. At some point Flattus Maximus woke up and grabbed a guitar from his guitar pile. He wrote the music to "Let Us Slay" note for note before passing out face down in an inflatable kiddie pool of celebrity vomit. Fortunately we were recording everything. Oderus garbled something incoherently, which we later found that if played backwards, were lyrics that perfectly matched up to the song! Ta Dah! Hit song. So you can see, the writing process with GWAR is a very taxing and lengthy process, calling on every shred of our talent and intellect.

Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself and learn more about the album - right here!
