Das Racist Spreading the Funny for Haters Everywhere
PR reports: Das Racist aren't racists, at least in the traditional sense. They're more pastiche-y satirists, poking holes in PC culture and poking fun at what's, well, funny.

But any member of the club knows that's their appeal – wild child boom bap deconstructed and destroyed, hip hop ripped from the 90s and amended with world music's exotics, freak folks, uh, freakiness, and ridiculous f*cking lyrics.

Armed to the bigoted teeth with a production team including Leif, J-La, Harrison Schaaf, Charles & Beck, and Patrick Wimberly of Chairlift, their debut LP, Shut Up,Dude, is set to drop on Emancipation Day, June 19th. Watch out for it – it'll hate crime you. But in the meantime, you can enjoy awesomely titled art rap fare like "Combination Pizza Hut and Taco Bell" (i.e. everyone's fave) on the Greedheadz EP. - more on this story

North Mississippi Allstars Spawn Hill Country Revue
PR reports: Hill Country Revue's debut studio album, Make A Move, will be released via Razor & Tie on May 12. The band and their friends recorded the 10-track, 45 minute album at Jim Dickinson's famed Zebra Ranch Studio, as well as at Young Avenue Sound in Memphis, with Cody in the producer's chair and father Jim Dickinson (who has played with Aretha Franklin, The Rolling Stones, The Flamin Groovies, among others) as "director". The combination of musicians, soul, and experience results in a ballsy mix of raw blues and classic Southern rock. While the band has already released Live in Denver, a self-released live album from the inaugural Mile High Music Festival in July 2008, Make A Move marks Hill Country Revue's studio album debut.

While Hill Country Revue as a band may be new to some of you, after a closer look you will see that those who make up the band aren't new faces at all. Hill Country Revue is Cody Dickinson (guitar/drums/piano/washboard), Chris Chew (bass/vocals), Ed "Hot" Cleveland (drums), Daniel Coburn (vocals/harp), Kirk Smithhart (guitar/vocals), and are at times joined by Luther Dickinson (guitar/vocals), Martin Shore (drums), Garry Burnside (guitar/vocals), and Aaron Julison (bass/vocals). Cody and Chris have played together in North Mississippi Allstars, Daniel is formerly of Dixie Hustler and Ed and Kirk are well known for playing in and around Memphis.

"The North Mississippi Allstars haven't broken up," Cody Dickinson says. "We're just off doing different things. Hill Country Revue, for Chris and me, is like a big jolt of adrenaline. It changes our blood chemistry and has us firing on a whole different set of synapses. Also the input from the other guys in the band, both as musicians and friends, is amazing. So everybody gains!" - more on this story

Steven Van Zandt Goes Back To The Mob For Cocktail Slippers Vid
PR reports: Wicked Cool Records debuts the video for the Cocktail Slippers single "St. Valentine's Day Massacre" on the label's website WickedCoolRecords.com. The song, written and produced by Steven Van Zandt, is the title track of the band's upcoming release - out April 28th in the U.S. (and April 27 in Europe). The clip pays homage to the Chicago mobsters of the 20's with scenes shot in black & white, capturing the feel and mood of the time.

The Cocktail Slippers loved playing the mobster roles so much they might give Silvio a run for his money. "Maybe we should start our own TV show -- The Soprano-ettes!" said Modesty Blaze.

The video for "St. Valentine's Day Massacre" was filmed in the Cocktail Slippers' hometown of Oslo, Norway and features the band in dual roles as performers in a speakeasy and as the 'gangsters' who frequent the club. "Dressing up as gangsters was a lot of fun," said Rocket Queen. "It was such a laugh looking at each other wearing the mobster suits. We really got into our roles, especially Modesty Blaze in the scene where she kicked over the table while we were playing cards, she's very convincing."
