antiMusic reports: Does Whitesnake's frontman David Coverdale lipsynch, or as our UK friends call it, mime to pre-recorded tapes? One of his peers says that he saw him do it and isn't to happy about the practice. Blabbermouth has the story (and the video):Spain's The Metal Circus recently conducted an interview with legendary vocalist Joe Lynn Turner (Rainbow, Deep Purple, Yngwie Malmsteen) about the new Sunstorm album, "House Of Dreams", his upcoming concerts in Spain with Big Noize, the Russian connection and the fact that Ritchie Blackmore won't ever reform Rainbow. When asked if he has ever used pre-recorded tapes for backing and/or lead vocals, Joe replied, "To be honest with you, I have one machine that helps sing the backgrounds — it's from DigiTech, and it's a great technology — but it's not samples, it's live; you have to sing into the microphone and then this machine will take your voice, whatever you put into this machine is exactly what you get. So if you sing like sh*t, it's gonna sound like shit. So there's no wizardry, there's no tapes. Because recently I heard on the Internet that David Coverdale was using all kinds of tapes. Well, I was in Finland [in June 2008] with Graham Bonnet and we were on the same festival [Sauna Open Air; see video at the full story link] as Whitesnake, and I couldn't believe he was using these tapes — for lead singing! Not just backgrounds, but lead! And I was... My mouth was open. I was like, 'What the f**k, David?! You can't do this. You look so stupid, so foolish.' And everyone is complaining about this. No, I'm singing live. This is what you get; that's it. . . I'm not trying to talk sh*t... This is true. Everybody sees this. . . I couldn't believe it, because he [David] was always one of my favorite singers. To use tapes for a lead vocal... I can understand backgrounds if the [rest of the bandmembers] don't sing. But for lead?! You've gotta be kidding!"

MusicRadar reports: Chris Cornell recently co-wrote a song with a fan. Called I Promise It's Not Goodbye, the story behind the track is quite extraordinary. Texan fan Rory de la Rosa lost his six-year-old daughter Ainslee to cancer last year. Shortly afterwards, he himself was diagnosed with the same illness. Rather than losing himself to despair, however, de la Rosa reached out to Cornell to tell him how much his music impacted his life and of the bond it helped create for him and his daughter.Through a caregiver at de la Rosa's hospice, the two succeeded in contacting Cornell via the internet. "It was a pleasure to put it to music and an honor that he ask if I would ever consider it" Chris Cornell on the poem "I Promise It's Not Goodbye," written by Rory de la Rosa "I have had a friendship with him by telephone and e-mail for a while now," says Cornell. "I was made aware of his story and that he wanted to talk to me because my music had been important to him and his family through what I think of as an unimaginably hard time.

MusicRadar reports: The Beatles: Rock Band video game is likely to appall and appeal in equal measure, but if rumours are to be believed, what can't be denied is that its developers are going all out to ensure that it's as authentic as possible. It's being speculated that the game may support multiple microphones, thus enabling players to perform the vocal harmonies that were crucial to The Beatles' sound. There are also unconfirmed reports that there'll be some kind of 'harmony training' mode.

PR reports: In the wake of the widely reported imbroglio involving Billy Bob Thornton's responses (or lack thereof) during an interview on CBC radio's Q program that has become a Youtube sensation, Billy Bob's November 11, 2008 session as a guest on Nights With Alice Cooper will be re-broadcast on the Monday, April 20th edition of the syndicated radio show. The interview, heard over a network of more than one hundred affiliated stations, found the actor/musician extremely forthcoming about the acting-music dialect, the philosophy behind his band, The Boxmasters, and a variety of other topics. It was both convivial and revealing, the polar opposite of the CBC session. As host of Nights With Alice Cooper, the rock legend anchors 30 hours per week of original Classic Rock programming. Produced and distributed by the United Stations Radio Networks, Nights with Alice Cooper has 110 affiliates broadcasting a combination of weeknight and weekend programming. Alice's time slot reaches 1.1 million listeners (12+) each week, and his affiliates have a weekly reach of over 6 millions listeners. We've provided a link so you can hear key excerpts of Alice's interview with Billy Bob or you can catch the whole show by listening on line or on the air.

antiMusic reports: Welcome to Singled Out! where we ask artists to tell us the inside story of their latest single. Today Pat McGee tells us about "Come Back Home" from his album "These Days (The Virginia Sessions)". We now turn it over to Pat for the story:"Come Back Home was written in the wake of me losing my longtime drummer and former Army soldier John C. Williams. But the song started off as a reflection of how a military couple deals with separation. After the release of Come Back Home, Johns little brother was killed by an IED in Iraq. His name was Blake Williams. His platoon used this track as the audio to a memorial slide show presentation they did in March of 2008. It was for all the courageous men and women they had lost in the month of March. "I am humbled by their service to our great country and I hope this song brings them some peace. My father served in Vietnam and I truly appreciate their dedication and bravery." Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, check out the slideshow video
