PR reports: After 25 years, 12 albums, over 2,500 shows, over 16 million albums sold worldwide, Tesla is stronger than ever. Continuing on that momentum Tesla will release their third DVD, Comin' Atcha Live! 2008, on June 24 on the band's Tesla Electric Company Recordings label (in partnership with Ryko Distribution). "This DVD marks a new era creatively for Tesla because we put it all together ourselves, capturing the band's concert and life on the road," says lead guitarist Frank Hannon. "Nowadays, we are more involved in every aspect of our music career than ever before. We are very excited about the creative results and it really shows in the new DVD." It's Tesla's first DVD in 17 years (since 1991's Five Man Video Band) and is filled with over two hours of live music, over an hour of special behind-the-scenes footage and never-before-seen material, including footage of Tesla interacting with fans, giving viewers a personal tour of Seattle, and an up-close look at their touring equipment and guitars.

PR reports: Celebrate the release of the new Bill Popp And The Tapes CD My Lonely Mind at Kenny's Castaways, 157 Bleecker Street (between Sullivan and Thompson Streets) on Thursday, June 5th from 6:30-9:00PM. There will be free food and drinks, and free copies of the new CD to the first 75 attendees. The story of prolific composer Bill Popp can best be summarized with three words: Perseverance, dedication and determination. For over 25 years, power popster, garage rocker, City of New York plumber, and quadruple heart by-pass survivor Bill Popp has had a dedicated cult following in the New York rock club scene especially for his legendary performances at CBGB from 1981 to its closing last year, where the Queens native also was venue owner Hilly Kristal's longtime plumber. Popp has been tagged "the downtown Elton John" (Boston Phoenix) and a "master songwriter" (New York Press), with a personality in peculiar contrast to his music.

antiMusic reports: Fiddy had his bling ripped off. Literally. So much for his bodyguards having his back. Gigwise has the report: US rapper 50 Cent had his necklace stolen by a fan during a concert in South Africa last week, it has emerged. The incident, which took place during a show in Angola, was captured on video by a fan. In the video, the music stops as the person grabs the necklace and climbs back into the crowd. Responding to the incident on his website, 50 Cent said that security at the concert had been "limited" and that "fans were able to interact with the group onstage".
- And 50 Cent claims he has video that show it went down another way.

antiMusic reports: There is nothing like a little controversy to help you sell CDs. Just ask Amy Winehouse. Gigwise has the report: Amy Winehouse's 'Back To Black' has replaced Coldplay to become Amazon's biggest selling album of all time. The singer's second album, which was released at the end of 2006, has continued to sell in well despite her personal problems. The online retailer revealed said that sales of the album doubled last week after the singer was cautioned by police for slapping a man with an open hand.

antiMusic reports: "Former Skid Row frontman Sebastian Bach of Skid Row fame," begins a Billboard article about "Gone Country 2." Really what band was he in? Can you say it again? Yes, we know glasshouses, but that was pretty funny. Hats off to (former?) Billboard writer Ken Tucker of Billboard fame. Now back on topic, seems ol' Sebastian will join Irene "Fifteen Minutes of Fame" Cara, Mikalah "I was on American Idol" Gordon, Jermaine "My brother is famous" Jackson, along with Lorenzo "Hey I can sing too" Lamas and Sean "Remember me?" Young as the contestants on CMT's "Gone Country 2". You'll have to wait until August to watch this train wreck with John Rich judging and hosting it. Billboard describes the premis as thus, "the show will immerse the celebrities in all things country for a chance to break out as a country star. Each celebrity will be paired two Nashville songwriters with whom they will write a country song."

antiMusic reports: Forget Corn Flakes, the only way to start your day is with morning quicks! Fruit Loops are good though. So here is today's dose of music news you can't use: We start off with the quote of the week from Clay Aiken: "I'm not cool, you know what I mean? I'm not gonna lie," the good-humored singer told The Associated Press in a recent interview. "I'm not trying to be Justin Timberlake. Thank God we have him, but I'm not him. ... I'm not gonna bring anybody's sexy back." Hats off to Clay for saying that. (Except that part about thanking God we have Timberlake.)Read the article the quote came fromWe printed a rumor about this recently, now it looks like it is official that Vegoose has gone kaput. Las Vegas music festival Vegoose will not take place in 2008, one of its producers told Billboard.com. "We're not saying it's killed, it's just not going to happen in 2008," said Jonathan Mayers. The Spill Canvas is set to release the digital EP Honestly, I'm Doing Okay, on May 13th. The EP features acoustic versions of No Really, I'm Fine standout tracks "All Over You" and "Saved" as well as a previously unreleased b-side "Lay It On Me." Fans can purchase Honestly, I'm Doing Okay exclusively through Amazon on May 13th. tracks: Lay It On Me - All Over You - Saved (acoustic) - Gold Dust Woman - All Over You (acoustic) What was a rumor yesterday is a official today! Metallica are weenies! Wait, sorry we got that wrong. They are confirmed to headline KROQ's Weenie Roast, which will take place on May 17 at Irvine Meadows (sorry we won't print their new corp name, unless that corp wants to pay us for the advertising.) Having Metallica headline continues (the self proclaimed "world famous") KROQ's tradition of booking headliners that you normally will not find on their airwaves. KISS anyone? What a crock, or is it kroq?. Aside from Lars and co, the Offspring will co-headline and the show will also include the Raconteurs, Rise Against, Bad Religion, Pennywise, the Bravery, Flogging Molly, Seether, Scars on Broadway and more. A Kroq full of info Black Francis is back with a new seven song, mini-LP entitled Svn Fngrs, available now from Cooking Vinyl Records. What you CAN'T find on the album is a remix of "The Seus," done by the Infadels. But because we're generous like that, you can download here. This remix, along with two others, will be released digitally on an EP called The Seus. Black Francis will be also playing a handful of shows this summer with the one and only Stone Temple Pilots.

antiMusic reports: Bena Warren has been street-teaming music sites on the net telling editors about a movie trailer she "found" online about a new Beatles related mockumentary called "Desperately Seeking Paul McCartney". But this one has a stalker angle to it. Think "My Date With Drew" meets "Single White Female". OK, it's not that bad. Given this email street-teaming, we're still not 100% sure this is a real film, and not just a trailer, as all we could find "official" was a Myspace page. But we did find a press release about a screening coming up at a film festival and it looks legit. Here is part of the PR with some background on the film: "Desperately Seeking Paul McCartney" will have its Los Angeles Debut at the 2008 Mockfest film festival on Sunday, May 18 at 5pm. The film will screen at the Vine Theatre, 6321 Hollywood Boulevard, Hollywood, CA, 90028. The comedy documentary is the story of Ruth Anson, who in 1965 was a teenage reporter for KABC-TV in Los Angeles. While doing an interview with The Beatles at Capitol Records, Ruth asked Paul McCartney if he had any plans for marriage. His on camera response was
"Only if you'll marry me." More than forty years later, now married, a mother and a college professor, Ruth contemplates, "What if I had said, yes?" With photo in hand, Ruth goes to a pitch session on screenwriting and tells her story to a panel of professionals. Their response is initially mixed, until an opportunist director/producer, Marc Cushman, decides to take on the project. In the spirit of reality TV, he has a camera crew follow Ruth. She goes to her old haunts and tracks down previous interviewees, but no one will allow her in the door or grant her an on camera interview.

Tony continues his look back at Def Leppard. Today he revisits their 2003 tour for X where they played to a near sold out crowd at the UIC Pavilion in Chicago. Tony was floored that they were able to sell 11,000 plus seats for a show that had zero promotion.

It's sad to see a band with a little bit of talent or ability in a particular style of music insist on doing a second-rate imitation of something else. Harsh words, perhaps, but I'd say it's true. (2.5 stars)
