Bumblefoot Week: Day 1 "Green"
antiMusic reports: With a sound described as "The Sex Pistols meets Queen, with innovative guitar and a Zappa-esque twist" how could your interest not be sparked? We are talking about Ron "Bumblefoot" Thal who was thrust into the international spotlight a couple years ago when he joined Guns N' Roses and quickly won the fans over on their world tour. But that new gig hasn't changed Bubblefoot's DIY ethic as he continues to be a champion of the underground with his new self-released CD "Abnormal". That effort from the critically acclaimed rocker is available this week and we asked Bumblefoot to pick his favorite tracks from the album and tell us a bit about each one. He more than delivered! Here is Bumblefoot with today's song:

"Green": I hate all my f**king songs. It's not that I hate them, it's just that either I change and don't feel the personal connection anymore, or I've gone through such sh*t to make the song happen, that it's like re-living that time you had to pull a rusty hook out of your foot, and couldn't. Such a song is "Green". I wrote the song 10 years ago. What I mean is I heard the music, the melodies, the arrangement, the instrumentation, and the feeling I got from the song and the message of the words that needed to be written, in my head - just needed to get it out of my head and fill in the missing pieces. Had the music ready for the "Uncool" album I was writing for, but could not get the right words. Nothing said it like it needed to be said. I had to search. I searched for 4 years, sleeping each night with a notebook behind my head, and would sometimes wake up at 4am out of a deep sleep and write down a phrase. I finally had the words, depicting what I saw inside.

It took another 4 years before I was *ready* to sing them. I wasn't ready to take on the song, after all of that, it was too big a deal. What the f**k, it's just a song, right? And I'm no Beethoven. So what the Hell's the big deal? I don't know - once in a while a song rules you like that, and you have to be ready to take the leap, it'll destroy you if you act to soon. This was one of those songs. The other was a song called "Heart Attack," written around the same time as Green. That one only took four years to find lyrics for, then record. And it took dying and seeing the white light to get that one out. - Check out the lyrics to this song and find out where you can get a preview of the CD!

Dude Looks Like A Liar
Sleazeroxx reports: Steven Tyler sought the "safe environment" of rehab last month to recover from more than just surgery, the Aerosmith frontman now says was fighting a dependency on pain and sleep medication.

"To have your feet done, to have your leg done, you have to be on narcotics," Tyler told The Associated Press on Friday. "You have to be on sleep aids at night. I don't know about Joe (Perry) but I was off and running and I didn't like the me that was me."

Tyler released a statement in late May saying he checked into a rehab facility in search of a "safe environment" to recover from several foot surgeries and physical therapy. Tyler said the procedures were to correct longtime foot injuries resulting from his physical performances as the singer for the blues-rock band. - more on this story

Purple Pain: Prince Answers Tribute With Legal Threat
antiMusic reports: Most artists would be honored that other artists would take the time and effort to record tribute versions of their songs, especially if the royalties are properly paid. But Prince is no ordinary artist and continues his recent practice of producing more billable hours for his attorneys than producing new music. Globe and Mail has this on the latest silly legal move by the purple one:

Prince found out about a special cover-song tribute collection that a group of Norwegian musicians had put together in honour of the artist's 50th birthday, and sent a threatening legal letter to the organizer of the tribute, ordering that all copies of the cover-song collection be destroyed or a lawsuit will be filed.

The project was the brainchild of Christer Falck, a Norwegian record-label owner and television star, who asked 50 prominent musicians to pick their favourite Prince song and do a cover version. He then made just 5,000 copies of the resulting 5-disc special boxed set and distributed them around the world, a venture for which (according to a Norwegian newspaper report) he made no money whatsoever. - Read more

Ratt Singer Too Wasted To Sing?
Blabbermouth reports: According to an article published in Sunday's (June 29) edition of the El Norte newspaper of Monterrey, Mexico, RATT was forced to cut its Friday, June 27 concert in Monterrey short after lead singer Stephen Pearcy appeared to be incapacitated and was unable to complete the concert.

At one point, according to the article, Pearcy lost his balance and fell into the crowd before being helped back to the stage by the venue's security personnel, only to fall backwards. He then got up and resumed singing as if nothing had happened.

After performing for about 50 minutes, the band abruptly left the stage and reappeared a few minutes later, this time without Stephen. Rhythm guitarist John Corabi, who is best known for having replaced Vince Neil as the frontman for Motley Crue in the early 1990s, apologized to the crowd and blamed the mishap on "jet lag" before taking over on lead vocals for the set's closing two numbers — "Body Talk" and "Round and Round". - more on this story
