Punknews.org reports: In a recent Distorted Magazine interview both Roger Miret of Agnostic Front and Zoli Teglas Ignite discussed how much the downloading trend is impacting negatively on the whole punk scene. Not only is the impact being felt from a industry and commercial aspect, but both frontmen are finding that the messages they convey in their music is being lost as nobody is reading the lyrics that come with the CDs. Zoli said: They're just downloading the music, so they're not reading the lyrics and they don't really know what the songs are about. With a CD you've got the booklet that contains so much information about what you are supporting. That is just one of the downsides of downloading, you miss out on all the extra's that come along with a CD.

Metal Underground reports: Denmark's SATURNUS check in with the following band lineup news: "Hey everybody, news flash from the Danish doomsters... After releasing Veronika Decides To Die in 2006 and touring The States, Russia and parts of Europe, Saturnus and bass player Lennart Jacobsen has decided to go our separate ways. No hard feelings involved and we wish him the best of luck with his music in the future. Luckily for us, our old bass player Brian Pomy Hansen (Brian recorded 'Paradise Belongs To You', 'For The Loveless Lonely Nights' and 'Martyre') was playing in the band WIZARDS OF DOOM with Thomas (vocals). We tried giving him a call and he was up for the task. So, we are back in business (never went off!).

Chipster reports: It's uncommon that an all-instrumental rock band can keep the attention span of non-musicians. But due to their penchant for crafting memorable non-vocal melodies along with their impressive, expert chops, Bushwhack is one such band that manages to successfully walk that fine line as evidenced by their recently issued self-titled debut (available online and through iTunes). Comprised of guitarist Jamie Van Dyck, bassist Brandon Green, keyboardist/samplist Frank Sacramone, and drummer Ben Shanbrom, the New Haven, CT-based quartet has created an undeniable buzz on the strength of their debut, which features design by renowned artist Ioannis, as well as photographs by another renowned name in the rock world Mark Weiss. Upon inspection of Bushwhack's thirteen track debut produced by Jeff Cannata it quickly becomes apparent that the band posses a sound that brings to mind such acts (and chief Bushwhack influences) as Dream Theater and Porcupine Tree. However, like all rock bands that manage to stand out from the pack, Bushwhack transcend their influences, creating their own unique sound/style in the process something that is becoming increasingly uncommon in rock's current climate.

PR reports: Bob Frank is, unabashedly, a folk singer. While others cloak their musical identity in such euphemisms as "singer/songwriter," "Americana" or "roots," Bob represents nothing so much as a continuation of the folk music movement that reached its apogee more than forty years ago -- about the same time Bob started writing and singing songs, songs that told stories, songs that decried injustice. Folk songs. One of Bob's songs, "Red Neck, Blue Collar," found its way onto Jungle Jim and the Voodoo Tiger, the Memphis International album debut of his old friend Jim Dickinson, a/k/a James Luther Dickinson, who had recorded his music previously during the course of his own sporadic career as a recording artist. This planted the seed of the idea with the label to release a full album of Bob Frank songs by Bob Frank. As it happens, "Red Neck, Blue Collar" is the title song of Bob's album, out February 19th from Memphis International. The songs, all in the folk tradition, reflect economic disparity and class struggle, Bob's observations on religion, patriotism and what might happen when you meet a wine-o in a Laundromat. These are straight up folks songs that show that Bob's songwriting gifts, melodic sense and homespun vocal chops are still very much intact after all this time.

This is a solid EP that is more powerful because of the subtle delivery of both the melodies and the vocals. It seems that the band is going for a "less is more" philosophy in these seven songs, and I'd have to say they pull it off pretty well. (4.5 stars)

Wikipedia lists trancecore as a subgenre of hardcore techno, which, just so we're clear, has nothing to do with hardcore as an offshoot of punk. This is ultimately a pretty solid disc that fans of post-hardcore or experimental music should check out. (4 stars)
