Guitarist Collapses On Stage
PR reports: Guitarist Phil Demmel did indeed collapse onstage during Machine Head's second-to-last song Sunday night in Bristow, VA.

Demmel was severely dehydrated and had mentioned several times to his tech that he felt lightheaded during the show.

Says drummer Dave McClain, "That was a scary moment for all of us. Seeing your friend collapse like that is something that nobody wants to experience. He's doing much better now and taking it easy on the bus." - more on this story

Metallica Singer St Angers Trespassers
antiMusic reports: Respect for private property sure isn't what it used to be; just ask James Hetfield. Blabbermouth has the tale: Metallica guitarist/vocalist James Hetfield has erected a metal fence on his property on a Terra Linda (California) hilltop, closing off a popular trail and angering hikers, bikers and equestrians.

Someone scrawled "SHAME DISGRACE" on the 300-foot-long, 8-to 10-foot-high corrugated metal silver fence adorned with barbed wire at its far edges. The fence, at the end of a fire road in the Terra Linda-Sleepy Hollow Divide open space preserve, went up in its present configuration in the past several weeks, according to trail users.

"I now have to get on the road with cars and go another three to seven miles to get to where I want to go," said biker David Lazarini of San Rafael. "It was always open, and it has changed suddenly." [poor baby, however it is Hetfield's property and would these whiners want all kinds of strange people traipsing across their yards? Would he be angrier if Hetfield had him arrested for trespassing? Read more, see photos of the fence and what prompted the fence - here]

Avril Deemed Too Sexy
E! reports: Avril Lavigne is getting under the skin of Malaysian censors. A hard-line Islamic opposition party in the Southeast Asian country is calling on the government to scuttle an upcoming concert featuring the "Sk8er Boi" singer, calling her stage act way "too sexy" for local tastes.

Officials with the Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party's youth wing contend Lavigne's Aug. 29 performance in Kuala Lumpur would set a bad example for citizens, especially coming two days before the nation's Aug. 31 Independence Day holiday.

"It is considered too sexy for us...it's not good for viewers in Malaysia," party official Kamarulzaman Mohamed was quoted by the Associated Press as saying. - more on this story

Rock Band Goes New Wave
PR reports: Harmonix and MTV Games announced today the addition of tracks from New Wave pioneers Devo and Duran Duran to the Rock Band Music Store catalog of downloadable content. On August 19, Devo's "Girl U Want" and "Through Being Cool," and Duran Duran's "Rio" and "Girls on Film" will make their music gaming debut.

Considered to be one of the most influential acts in pop music history, Devo originally formed in 1973 but didn't find commercial success until the 80s with the help of their colorful music videos. Devo re-recorded exclusively for Rock Band, "Girl U Want" from their third studio album, the 1980 release, Freedom of Choice, and the synthpop hit "Through Being Cool" from their fourth studio album, New Traditionalists, released in 1981. These tracks join "Uncontrollable Urge", from Q: Are We Not Men, A: We Are Devo!, which is featured on Rock Band 2's disc.

Two-time Grammy winning, New Romantic act Duran Duran joins the Rock Band DLC catalog with original master recordings of "Girls on Film" and "Rio." "Girls on Film" is from their 1981 eponymously titled, multi-platinum album debut and most notably was one of the most banned music videos of its time. With "Rio" from their 1982 release Rio, Duran Duran found success in the music video age and their second hit in the U.S. One of the most commercially successful bands of the New Wave movement, Duran Duran have had 21 singles in the Billboard Hot 100 and have sold more than 100 million records worldwide. Duran Duran are also among the classic tracks on Rock Band 2's set list, with their smash hit "Hungry Like the Wolf" standing out from a strong set of 80s songs.

The Return of Al Jourgensen's Revolting Cocks
HER reports: Revolting Cocks (RevCo) founding member Alien Jourgensen is clearing up, once and for all, the rumors surrounding RevCo's future. "Much like Menudo does or the Blue Man Group, I was going to hand the band over to this younger generation of RevCo's, to Sin [Quirin/guitars], Josh [Bradford/vocals] and Clayton [Worbeck/keyboards], kind of franchise it out. I think that these three knuckleheads capture the true essence and spirit of being 'a Revolting Cock,' if you will. But, this album turned out so damned good, I think I'm going to stick around for a while.

"This is the best RevCo album I've ever done," Al continued. "As a matter of fact, I think this is the best album - including Ministry, Pailhead, Lard - anything I've ever done, period. Production-wise, song-wise, I'm really, really happy with this record. It's the first CD I've ever gotten back from the mastering studio that I didn't have anything to bitch about. No complaints. I listened to the whole thing and just went, 'OK, that's a wrap. Let's go'!"

Now that "Sex-O Olympic-O" is in the can, Jourgensen and his "knuckleheads" plan to begin tracking yet another RevCo release in September at Jourgensen's 13th Planet Studios in El Paso, TX. As he did with "Sex-O," Jourgensen will produce this next release as well as be involved in writing and playing on the album. RevCo will then initiate rehearsals for the upcoming RevCo World Tour, scheduled to begin in April 2009. While Jourgensen won't claim a bunk on RevCo's tour bus for the duration of the trek, he does plan to perform with the band on a few choice dates. - more on this story

Are Your Rowdy Friends Ready for Some Football?
Webster and Associates reports: This fall ESPN will crank up the volume and cue the rowdy friends the only way Monday Night Football knows how -- with Hank Williams Jr. For an unprecedented 20th season, the legendary singer will perform the anthem that ushers in the NFL's weekly primetime showcase game, a ritual that has earned him four Emmy awards (1991-1994) and national acclaim among legions of football fans.

Williams first performed "All My Rowdy Friends Are Here on Monday Night" - based on his hit song "All My Rowdy Friends Are Coming Over Tonight" - in 1989 during the 20th anniversary season of MNF on ABC. Through the years, the MNF open has featured Williams in a variety of settings -- cruising the highway in a convertible with Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders, tapping with famed dancer Savion Glover, even flying through outer space. After performing alongside an all-star band the past two years on ESPN, Williams will be a solo act this fall, welcoming fans to the weekly MNF game with a house party theme.

Williams has become synonymous with sports television's signature series, but ironically the gig almost went to another well-known entertainer. "The leading contender was actually a song '20/20' by George Benson, "admits Bob Toms, Vice President, Production Enhancements for ESPN, who was the producer for ABC Sports' on-air promotion in 1989. "It had a pretty good vibe but it wasn't quite right. It didn't really talk football at all. We called Hank Williams Jr. and spoke to his manager, a great guy by the name of Merle Kilgore, and we asked if Hank would have any interest in working on MNF. We asked if he knew anything about football, and Merle's reply was, 'Does Hank know football? Hank is an American. He knows football.' And ever since then, that was it." - more on this story

Peace Sells But Will Yet Another Megadeth Retrospective?
antiMusic reports: It seems that Megadeth is definitely following the KISS formula of "Same Songs / Different Cover" compilation releases. Or at least Capital EMI is because they have announced yet another Megadeth retrospective. Of course they are tossed in a couple of live "rarities" to lure you into buying the very same songs for the third or fourth time. And even those rarities are probably already in the hands of the Megafans since they've been released elsewhere. Here is the announcement:

Following the successful 2007 release of the coveted 4-CD+DVD Warchest box set, Megadeth is back with a vengeance with Anthology: Set The World Afire. The career-spanning 2-CD and digital collection, to be released September 30th by Capitol/EMI, features Megadeth's top hits and fan favorites, a previously unreleased demo and two rare concert recordings.

Anthology: Set The World Afire is loaded with 35 electrifying tracks, among them Megadeth's top hits, including 'Trust', 'A Tout Le Monde', 'Insomnia' and 'Train Of Consequences'. Also included are rare 1992 concert recordings of 'Peace Sells' and 'Symphony of Destruction', previously available only in limited release, the latter having never been released in the U.S. - more on this story

The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus Label Issues Statement To Tell Us the Band is in the Middle of Recording But With No Real New News
PR reports: Jacksonville, Florida's platinum rockers The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus have been hard at work since early July in the Valley Village, California studio of rock super-producer Howard Benson (Hoobastank, P.O.D., Less Than Jake, Daughtry, Seether, All-American Rejects), recording the follow-up to Don't You Fake It, one of the longest-running breakthrough albums in recent rock history.

The rock quintet comprised of Ronnie Winter (lead vocals), Elias Reidy (guitar, backing vocals), Duke Kitchens (guitar, piano, vocals), Joey Westwood (bass, vocals) and Jon Wilkes (drums, vocals) forged a rare bond of closeness and healing with listeners from their very first single "Face Down," an unsparing, full-throated cry against domestic violence.

The overwhelming response to the band recently prompted RJA to send regrets via their MySpace page to their now-worldwide fanbase that they would not be joining this summer's Warped Tour. - more on this story

Mayhem On the Road with Five Finger Death Punch: Final Week
antiMusic reports: This summer we're taking you on tour vicariously with some of today's best bands. We continue with the Mayhem Festival with this final entry from Five Finger Death Punch's Matt Snell:

Last thoughts as the final show approaches.... Truly an amazing summer for everyone involved. EVERY show was packed, and for the first time I didn't have to replace broken gear.( a long horrible story if you've been my tech or seen my bank statement!) Everyone is a bit bummed that this run is over, but we are getting amped up for our Fall headlining tour with In This Moment, Bury Your Dead, and Another Black Day. I think we just don't want the party to end.

On a personal note... I want to say thank you to ALL the fans who came out in force to see 5FDP. Our army of KNUCKLEHEADS has grown by leaps and bounds. We are "taking back control" … Plain and simple.

We have one show left on the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival. It's kinda like the last day of school, so it's time to charge the camera, exchange digits and have the last toasts to see each other in the future. It's an amazing thing to be involved in something as massive as this was. Something I will never forget.

A huge thanks to Matt for taking time out to do these diaries this summer. You can catch the band on tour this Fall where they'll be headlining! For now go and check out tracks from the band's album "The Way of the Fist," get tour dates and more right - here!
