idolator reports: At this point, you're probably so sick of festival news (although the lineup for the London Auto Show has been announced!) that a festival un-announcement at least represents something of a reprieve. So! The Las Vegas mini-Bonnaroo Vegoose seems to be kaput, with attendance in recent years never quite reaching the heights of its 2005 inaugural run. To the organizers' credit, Vegoose ran a slightly different show, with the festival itself running during daylight hours and ticketed concerts taking place in local casinos and theatres at night.

Reuters reports: Nine major record labels filed suit against an online music provider on Monday, accusing Project Playlist Inc of a "massive infringement" of their copyrights to the songs of artists such as U2 and Gwen Stefani. Project Playlist enables its users to easily find, play and share music with others for free, according to the suit filed in U.S. District Court in Manhattan. The website compiles a vast index of songs on the Internet and users can "quickly and easily search the index for recordings by their favorite artists. At the click of a mouse, Project Playlist instantly streams a digital performance of the selected recording to the user, who can listen to it on his or her computer or mobile device," the lawsuit said.

antiMusic reports: The free download of Coldplay's new single is being called a hit by Billboard magazine as the band's frontman announced during a radio interview that they would be playing a free show in Barcelona. Billboard declared with their headline that "Coldplay Download Freebie Proves A Hit" after they found the band's official site sluggish while trying to get their hands on the free download of "Violet Hill," the first single from "Viva La Vida," the band's new album that is set to hit stores on June 17th.Yesterday the band announced that would be playing free shows at London's Brixton Academy on June 16 and Madison Square Garden in New York on June 23. Then today Chris Martin told Jo Whiley on BBC Radio 1 that the band would soon announce a free show in Barcelona. Didn't grab the song yet? It's at coldplay.com. Now on a narcissistic sidenote, a blogger mentioned our headline for the article where we published the tracklisting for the album. We always take any chance we can get at humor and dubbed the article "10 Reasons to avoid the new Coldplay CD" Said blogger didn't think it was very funny and was so confused in anger that he or she called the article a review and credited it to the New York Times. It's not every day we get mistaken for the Times. Of course, we make stuff up we tell you we made it up. =)

antiMusic reports: It used to be smart for record companies to target most of their music to teenagers. But those days are long gone and the music industry still has figured that out. While half of their sales are for older releases, purchased by old customers, they still chase that illusive young demographic. Where did they go?However, today teens are given the choice between spending money on prefab pop or emo groups put together by a record company execs specifically targeted their dollars and a variety of other forms of entertainment. The Wall Street Journal seems to know what the kids that are supposed to be buying CDs are spending their cash on instead: "The latest installment in the Grand Theft Auto series is expected to shatter sales records for videogames when it hits stores Tuesday." Just successful will this game be? The Journal turned to Evan Wilson, an analyst at Pacific Crest Securities, and he "predicts first-week Grand Theft Auto IV sales could be more than $400 million." It's no wonder that we are see more and more of a push for music in games and are even seeing game soundtracks. But when you consider that the main growth market in music is download sales and the biggest buyers there are between 36 and 50, you have to wonder why the labels are targeting audiences that grew up with music and not video games. Just some food for thought.
- Check out the Wall Street Journal for more on Grand Theft Auto IV sales and some controversy.

antiMusic reports: You'll never think of the music of Elvis Presley the same way after you hear what punk supergroup G.G. Elvis and the T.C.P. Band do to the King's classics! Here is a little about how they are resurrecting Elvis for a new Generation:Mental Records is pleased to announce the release of G.G. Elvis and the T.C.P. Band "Back From The Dead" for worldwide distribution on June 24, 2008. This utterly insane group of comedic mutha' f*ckers manically combines the very best (and worst) of the "King of Rock" Elvis Presley and self-professed "King of Punk" G.G. Allin into a smash up punk rock Elvis tribute the likes of which the world has never seen. We're talkin' tight comedy-fused high-intensity music, masterfully mixed with well-known punk rock cover songs of Elvis classics. So in other words
PARTY! Hailing from Oxnard, California (Ventura County just north of L.A.) the band features some of the "Nardcore" nest including members of NOFX, Agression, Bad Samaritans, Ill Repute, Stalag 13 & Dr. Know.
