Apologies if this
week's Day in Rock seems a bit off, been battling a bad case of strep throat
coupled with what appears to be bronchitis but the show must go on. The
good news is that if you drink enough Nightquil you can see some rather
interesting things. With that said, we should be back to normal next week.

MVD reports: MVD Entertainment Group has sealed
a deal with CBGB to bring a series of live performance audio recordings
from the club to consumers. Each CD will feature a full concert recorded
at the club from the '80s through '00s. The initial offerings will come
from Mooney Suzuki, the Queers, and H2O. More are expected to be announced
in the fourth quarter of 2007, including some limited edition vinyl releases.
"It's fantastic that these great vintage performances are going to be seen,"
said Brett Green, Attorney for CBGB and Hilly Kristal. "It's a fitting
tribute to Hilly's legacy."
MVD is donating a portion of sales to the
Hilly Kristal Foundation for Musicians and Artists. Hilly Kristal, the
famed founder of CBGB, passed away on August 28, 2007 at the age of 75
due to complications from lung cancer. As a singer, songwriter, and musician,
he ran CBGB for 33 years until it closed in 2006. He is credited with giving
the Ramones, Blondie, Talking Heads, and Television their first gigs. His
friendship and partnership with MVD throughout the years has been extremely
cherished and will be missed greatly according to Ed Seaman, COO of MVD
Entertainment Group. - more

PR reports: Manic smart art-rockers MUTEMATH
make television history by being the first band to perform live…BACKWARDS!
The New Orleans quartet perform their current single, "Typical," on ABC's
late-night talk show "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" in the most untypical way imaginable,
Wednesday September 19th. The idea for this unique performance stems from
the video for the track which was a collaborative concept between video
director Israel Anthem and the band. Every move and detail by each band
member was conceived and painstakingly plotted and choreographed. Band
members learned and rehearsed their individual parts of the song backwards
so when filmed and viewed would appear as accurately and naturally as possible
in real time though the film runs completely in reverse.
The video was filmed over a two-day period
in Nashville in February 2007. The high-action shoot was captured in one
continuous take by a single camera divided in two parts. The resultant
clip first appeared on You Tube in March of 2007 and views seem to skyrocket
into an orbit all its own. Over 1 million viral views later, "Typical"
found its way to MTV's Discover and Download, MTV2 and MTVU this past summer
making it one of the most viewed video clips in recent years.-

Hecklerspray reports: You know what Britney
Spears has to do if she wants to keep her kids? No, not try to wear a pair
of knickers for once in her effing life - although that'd be a start -
instead, Britney Spears has to undergo random drug testing.
According to the judge in the Britney Spears/
Kevin Federline custody bitchfight over their two young children, Britney
Spears is a "habitual, frequent, and continuous" abuser of both drugs and
alcohol, and if Britney Spears is serious about keeping her children, she'll
need to submit herself to random drug tests to ensure that she's keeping
her nose clean.
"Huh?" you're probably thinking, "If Britney
Spears is on drugs then why doesn't the judge immediately hand custody
over to Kevin Federline?" And the answer to that is simple - because he's
Kevin sodding Federline. Seriously, Britney Spears would need to set one
of her babies on fire and throw it out of an aeroplane to make Kevin Federline
even look like a halfway suitable custody prospect.

Yahoo reports: Former Stone Roses singer Ian
Brown has lashed out at Bono and Bob Geldof for the way that they hi-jacked
the G8 Summit, and has claimed that they should be served with a restraining
order.
In an extraordinary interview with London's
The Guardian, Brown said they hadn't achieved anything with the Live 8
concert other than helping Pink Floyd sell millions more albums.
Elsewhere the ex-Stone Roses frontman claimed
that groups of Taliban fighters should be made to patrol inner-city areas
at night, that lambs should be made to graze on the roof of the White House,
and that a panel of dolphins should be recruited to advise on crisis planning.-

PR reports: New Zealand rock act Steriogram
returns October 9th with "This Is Not The Target Market," the second album
in their repertoire and the first to be delivered via Rock Ridge Music.
Having issued their debut, "Schmack!" in
2003 while signed to Capitol Records, the five-piece decided to go indie
with their latest release. The do-it-yourself ethic has been important
to Steriogram since day one. When it came to recording TINTTM, they took
the same approach; the band decamped to Kare Kare beach just outside of
Auckland for several months to write and record the bones of what would
later become "This Is Not The Target Market." Having just returned from
two years touring hard in the U.S., it was like gasping for air after too
long underwater.- more

PR reports: Independent juggernaut and controversy
magnet Gucci Mane is back with his major label debut, Back To The TrapHouse,
due out November 13, 2007. Gucci Mane's major label debut is the follow-up
to his wildly successful independently released gold albums, Trap House
and Hard 2 Kill.
"This album is perfect for my major label
debut. It felt like the first time all over again, just so fresh and driven,"
Gucci Mane says, describing the energy he felt when recording it. "I bring
a lot of experience, creative wordplay, and a crazy style, and I can't
wait to showcase the album to my fans and open up to millions of new fans."
Gucci Mane is confident that this latest
release will place all eyes firmly on his music, putting the controversy
that seems to follow the rapper behind him.- more

PR reports: Rhino Entertainment will release
The Heavy Metal Box on October 2nd. Heavy metal is not for the faint of
heart. The songs don't want you to dance, shake, spin, or jump. They insist
that you bang your head. Forget nuances or subtlety, heavy metal's main
concern is kicking your ass.
Rhino dives into the mosh pit with a four-disc
collection of musical wickedness that packs more fire and brimstone than
an Aleister Crowley barbeque. The Heavy Metal Box invokes some of metal's
biggest names with Alice Cooper's "Billion Dollar Babies"; Black Sabbath's
"Neon Knights"; "Highway Star" by "the loudest group in the world," Deep
Purple; Iron Maiden's "The Phantom Of The Opera" with singer Paul Di'Anno
and "The Number Of The Beast" with singer Bruce Dickinson; Judas Priest's
"The Ripper" and "You've Got Another Thing Comin'"; Metallica's "Whiplash"
and uber-doom-ballad "One"; Megadeth's searing political statement "Peace
Sells"; Slayer's soul crushing "South of Heaven"; and Pantera's marriage
of metal and hardcore on "Cowboys From Hell." The boxed set also includes
songs by Ted Nugent, Kiss, W.A.S.P., Diamond Head, Venom, Living Colour,
and a pair of tracks featuring leather-lunged Lemmy Kilmister who appears
on Hawkwind's "Lost Johnny" and Motorhead's "Ace of Spades."
The set will be offered in limited edition
packing that resembles an amplifier- more
