PR reports: Gina Gershon, widely recognized
and beloved for her Broadway and film acting career, will debut music from
her new recording In Search Of Cleo beginning October 7 at "The Box," and
continuing every Sunday and Monday for the remainder of the month. Anointed
an "indie movie stalwart" by The Los Angeles Times, Ms. Gershon, together
with a band of five and a dancing cast of three, will introduce the audiences
at "The Box" to the true and unique story revealed in her songs.
In Search Of Cleo recalls the true story
of the search and recovery of Gershon's lost cat Cleo. Gershon wrote or
co-wrote every song on the record, except for Linda Perry's "Watch Over
Me," and the album is Gershon's first for which each song was written entirely
for her own voice and artistic expression. The theme, woven among the album's
10 songs, focuses on the literal and metaphoric experience of the search,
not just for Cleo, but for love. With biting humor, country, blues and
jazz influenced singing and a splash of sexy, the show will reveal the
desperation and beauty of the search. "Drinking theater," Gershon adds,
"instead of dinner theater."- more

PR reports: Californication, Showtime Networks
critically acclaimed new comedy series starring David Duchovny opens an
express lane on the digital music super highway next month with the release
of the first of three 8-song "track packs." Titled Temptation: Music from
the SHOWTIME Series Californication, it will be released by ABKCO Records
exclusively via iTunes. The show, the highest debuting scripted comedy
series in SHOWTIME history, is rife with contemporary and classic music
that underscores its edgy, iconoclastic tone. New episodes of Californication
air on Mondays at 10:30pm ET/PT on SHOWTIME.
Music supervisors of the television series
Californication Budd Carr and Nora Felder found a kindred spirit in ABKCO
Vice President Alisa Coleman when they approached her about licensing some
source material for the show. Carr, Felder and Coleman discussed the desirability
of offering soundtrack music in a more immediate context than traditional
albums which are usually released at the conclusion of a series' first
season. "We wanted to do something new with soundtracks," Carr notes. He
adds, "When Alisa cited ABKCO's strong ongoing relationship with iTunes,
it seemed like we had the means at hand to provide viewers with an 'evolving
soundtrack,'" Carr's term for the aspect of the of this project where just-heard
music is made available to consumers on a regularly scheduled basis ---
sometimes even in advance of that music having been heard in the latest
episode of the series. - more

PR reports: Guitar Center, the nation's leading
musical instrument retailer, announced today the introduction of its exclusive
Hi-Tech Custom Shop. A new model for the retail chain, the Hi-Tech Custom
Shop gives musicians unique access to rare and specialized items designed
to break the homogeny of mass-market gear.
The planned inventory for the Shop includes
limited custom editions, exclusive product and artist-endorsed items. These
will be conceived and designed by industry experts to celebrate the legacy
of genre-defying pieces as well as appeal to musicians with a desire to
own a piece of history. These exclusive collaborations will be on display
at select locations but can be special ordered at any Guitar Center nationwide.
To launch the Hi-Tech Custom Shop, Guitar
Center purchased the last eleven Akai MPC 4000s ever made and partnered
with Bruce Forat, who has been at the forefront of music electronics for
the last 25 years. Forat, who has personally customized drum machines and
keyboards for top musicians including Prince, Dr. Dre, Jermaine Dupree
and Madonna, customized the eleven to create one-of-a-kind MPC 4000s, of
which only six remain for sale exclusively through the Guitar Center Hi-Tech
Custom Shop. The Akai MPC series, used by influential musicians and producers
such as Kanye West, Just Blaze, and Pete Rock, has been instrumental in
the development of hip-hop music and is widely regarded as the industry's
gold standard. Additional information can be found- here

PR reports: Two-Disc Aretha Franklin Collection
Uncovers Unreleased Demos, Outtakes, and B-Sides Featuring Vintage Aretha
at Work in the Studio Available October 16 From Rhino Records.
"Mr. Wexler, I'm Aretha Franklin." That
simple introduction, made in 1966, forever changed the course of soul music.
Legendary producer Jerry Wexler struck a handshake deal with the young
singer, marking the start of a new artistic direction for Aretha and heralding
her 13-year reign at Atlantic Records as the Queen of Soul. Rhino bears
witness to Sister Re's renaissance with a two-disc collection of unreleased
demos, outtakes, and B-sides that reveal prime Aretha at work in the studio.
Writing in the collection's detailed liner notes, Wexler says he was blown
away by the high quality of the unreleased music. "We've discovered a treasure
trove of vintage Aretha that's nothing short of thrilling. Aretha's outtakes
are the sort of performances most artists would be proud to call first
choices"
Featuring 35 tracks originally recorded
between 1966 and 1973, the collection presents outtakes from sessions for
eight albums; the B-sides "Pledging My Love/The Clock" and "Lean On Me";
and a duet featuring Ray Charles performing live with Aretha on a televised
salute to Duke Ellington.- more

CMJ reports: SoundExchange has signed agreements
with at least 24 small webcasters, allowing them to continue through 2010
under the Small Webcaster Settlement Act, which sets their royalty fees
at 10 or 12 percent of their revenue.
10 percent of revenue if they make under
250,000 dollars and 12 percent of revenue if they make between 250,000
and 1.25 million dollars. The agreement is retroactive to January 1, 2006
and will continue through December 31, 2010 when the Copyright Royalty
Board (CRB) will start a new negotiation.
While 24 webcasters have signed the deal,
according to a statement released by SoundExchange yesterday, criticism
still exists. Wired points out that the the agreement only covers artists
and labels who are SoundExchange members. - a

antiGUY reports: Hi everyone. It's antiGuy!
Remember me? No? That's ok. I've been away for a while and the best excuse
I can give is that there really hasn't been much music worth writing about.
But seeing the current entertainment deficit I felt the need to give some
new releases the reviews they merit since they aren't worth the effort
for a full length review. For this first edition, I'm going to cheat a
little and take a shot at the current top album chart. Enjoy and send hatemail

Kanye West - Graduation Day: No rap cliche
left behind.
50 Cent - Curtis: If you paid 50 cents
for this you were ripped off.
High School Musical 2: Young, dumb and
full of c... cheese.
Fergie - Dutchess: Now even royalty is
sounding generic.
Miley Cyrus - Hannah Montana 2 (Soundtrack)/Meet
Miley Cyrus: Proof that the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.
NOW 25: Record execs should listen to this
as shows why you are losing money!
Hairspray Soundtrack: Not only music suffers
from terrible remakes and rehashes, the film industry is remaking lame
films too. Every lame movie needs the lame music to go with it.
Nickelback - All the Right Reasons: No
longer leader of men. They are sorey for sellin out for all the wrong reasons
eh! They should team with 50 Cent for the loose change tour.
That's enough for now. I'll leave you with
a name check a.k.a. what's with the lame ass name? You can add almost any
emo band to this but we'll kick off with this one- Cute is What I Aim For:
You missed.
