Punknews.org reports: Russ Rankin of Good Riddance spoke to Pastepunk finally giving up some more details about the reasons to end the band as well as commenting on some of his future plans. As to the breakup, Russ explained: We were looking at trying to keep going in small little chunks of time, whenever we could have some time available. And then Sean would kind of be on-call to drum for us. But we went out and toured and found that uh, you know, music had changed a lot, and nobody really wanted to see our band anymore. So we had been talking about doing this for about a year. We don't want to be that band that keeps on touring, and playing to like, 5 people, then 3 people, then no people. We don't want to be that band. We would rather do this, and have our dignity.

PR reports: NYC-based singer/songwriter Tom Laverack will release his third solo album, Cave Drawings, in January 22, 2008 on Sojourn Records. The shimmery, rootsy vibe combines the broad appeal of Bruce Springsteen's populist rock anthemics and the cult-like devotion of T Bone Burnett's noirish folk balladry, with flecks of Bill Mallonee, David Baerwald and Mark Eitzel glittering in the bottom of his songwriting pan. With a world weary voice and a guarded optimism, Tom Laverack has created a quietly powerful set of songs that subtly tightens its grip with every successive listen. Three of the songs on this CD were featured in the IFC Films release "The Last Winter" from cult director Larry Fessenden, which was released in September to high acclaim.

PR reports: Silverchair swept the 2007 ARIA Awards in Sydney last night. They won five ARIAs - more than any other artist this year. Most significantly the band took out the prestigious Album Of The Year award for their acclaimed Young Modern. While they've had five chart-topping albums over their career, this was actually the first time that any Silverchair release has received that honor. They received the following awards: Album Of The Year - Best Group - Single Of The Year - Best Rock Album - Highest Selling Single This extraordinary achievement makes Silverchair the most successful artist in the entire history of the ARIA Awards. Last night's haul took the band's career tally to 19 eclipsing John Farnham's previous record of 18 career gongs. Silverchair opened the Awards telecast with a memorable performance of "Straight Lines" and set the tone for a very special night that cemented Silverchair in their rightful place as one of the most acclaimed and successful bands in Australian music history

antiMusic reports: We told you last week (with help from our friends at Gigwise) that the Love Shack was open for business once again. We received the official word today with some more details: The B-52's, pioneering dance-rock stars, are exploding on the scene once again with the February 26th, 2008 release of 'Funplex', the band's first studio album in 16 years and the first with the Astralwerks label. The influential band - who bridged a gap between punk and new wave with a sound that was uniquely their own - along with producer Steve Osborne (New Order, Happy Mondays, Doves, KT Tunstall) have created a new album as cutting edge, distinctive and danceable as their self-titled debut album and hit single "Rock Lobster" were in 1979. Recorded in their native Athens, GA and with all 11 songs written by Kate Pierson, Fred Schneider, Keith Strickland and Cindy Wilson, 'Funplex' finds the band in vigorous, forward stance, while staying true to the party-rock style that influenced such current bands as LCD Soundsystem, Interpol and The Scissor Sisters. Guitarist Keith Strickland explains, "It's loud, sexy rock and roll for your pleasure zones, with the beat pumped up to hot pink."

antiMusic reports: Just what the world needed, a Jessica Simpson perfume. Anyone up for smelling like tuna? Or is chicken? Why is called Chicken of the Sea? Why do celebs do clothing lines and perfumes? Why do consumers buy such things? We have no answers to any of these complex questions but we do that Jessica will soon stink up the place. Contact Music has the report: Singer/actress Jessica Simpson has become the latest in a long line of female celebrities to launch her own perfume. The star, 27, has signed a deal with Parlux fragrances - the company behind Paris Hilton's scent range With Simpson joining the likes of Britney Spears, Gwen Stefani, Jennifer Lopez and Sarah Jessica Parker with her new smelly sideline. The as-yet-unnamed perfume is expected to hit shelves in summer next year (08).

The release of a new Down album constitutes something of an event. Down III: Over the Under, in fact, represents just their second release since their legendary debut, NOLA which was released more than ten years ago. (4 stars)

The new album by pop tart princess Britney Spears "Blackout" should have stayed blacked out. The album shows absolutely no imagination or creativity. "Blackout" is not only a waste of good money, but it is also a waste of good time in listening to it.

Okay, so, two piece female band that's drawn comparisons to Heart. Sounds totally reasonable to me, early Heart of course being excellent and some of their later material falling under the "guilty pleasure" heading. (3 stars)
