PR reports: Portugal. The Man, currently on
the road with Rocky Votolato, played an impromptu, acoustic show last night
at a fan's apartment in Pittsburgh. P.TM and Votolato were scheduled to
play an all-ages show at the Rex Theatre, but, at the last minute, the
club changed its policy to "over 21," leaving some 50 underaged kids stranded
outside the venue. Apparently, one of these kids - known only as Spencer
- offered up his living room as a place that Votolato and P.TM could do
a "house party" for the under-21 fans, and the musicians took him up on
the suggestion. Directly following their respective sets at the Rex, P.TM
and Votolato made their way the block or two to Spencer's apartment.
"It was crazy, the place was absolutely
packed," laughed P.TM's John Baldwin Gourley. "We found this great colored
strobe light ball, so we turned off all the lights and had all these colored
lights rotating around the living room while we played. It was unreal.
We played eight or nine songs, most of which we'd never done acoustically
before, but everyone was standing up stomping, clapping and singing along.
By our last song, 'Helter Skelter," the stomping and clapping and singing
got so intense, the entire apartment was shaking. It was the coolest sing-along
ever!"
Portugal. The Man, whose music has been
described as "the White Stripes meet the Mars Volta meets Led Zeppelin,"
will be on tour through late November in support of their newest album,
"Church Mouth." At this time, they have no further plans to play at fans'
houses, but who knows?- Read

PR reports: Grammy award winner with the band
Dirty Vegas, singer/songwriter Steve Smith has found the inspiration to
record his first solo album. In 2005, Smith felt tired of his native London,
England and searched for a new beginning. Boston was it! With its musical
heritage and the city's cosmopolitan feel, Smith knew this was his new
home. When producer Anthony Saffery of Cornershop fame agreed to produce
the album, the pair booked the legendary Camp Street Studios in Cambridge,
MA and set to work.
Many musicians of all genres and styles
appear on Smith's solo debut This Town to be released January 22, 2008
on Smith's own label, GAS Records (named for his late father, George Albert
Smith.) Those who came out to play include Saffery known the world over
for his sitar playing with Cornershop, Beck, Oasis and others, Claudia
Gonson (The Magnetic Fields), Terry Barber (counter-tenor for the New York
Symphony Orchestra), Jay Ungar (principal violinist for James Horner ["Titanic",
"Legends of The Fall"]) and Rob Swift (The Executioners.) The result is
a collection of songs that blend folk, rock and electronica with Smith's
songwriting craft fusing all of those styles together.
The album's title track, "This Town" features
an inspired and poignant speech recorded by the acclaimed actor John Savage
("The Deer Hunter," "Hair"), which sets the mood for the whole record.
In addition to the track listing below, the album will feature two bonus
cuts: a new song "Late Nights and Street Fights" which was recently chosen
as the main title theme to FOX TV's hit series "Standoff" and a previously
un-released acoustic version of Grammy award winning Dirty Vegas tune "Days
Go By," which will only appear on the album's initial pressing.

Sander Gommans, founding member, lead guitarist,
and main composer for AFTER FOREVER had this to say about the upcoming
tour: "Now it's time to say goodbye to all of my He-Man figures and hit
the road. It will be an emotional goodbye [laughter]. This tour means a
very heavy schedule for us
a lot of computer game contests on the bus!
Since AFTER FOREVER is only doing a limited
number of shows, I know not all of our fans will be able to come out and

PR reports: Ten years in the making, KISS
Loves You is a film that began back in 1994 when the band KISS was at a
career low and KISS fans around the world were starting tribute bands,
uniting at unofficial KISS Conventions and growing increasingly more nostalgic
for the 70's era classic KISS line-up.
The zeitgeist exhibited at these conventions
was not lost on the band and in 1996 they responded, rising up like a grease
painted phoenix into a new era of success. On the surface, KISS fans got
exactly what they longed for, but for some the return of their idols brought
unexpected consequences. KISS Loves You follows a few KISS fans along the
way.
Bonus Materials: Never before seen silent
Super-8 film of KISS in Stockholm 1976. - Extended footage from the 1996
KISS Press Conference on the USS Intrepid. - The Beyond Vaudville Kiss
Spectacular Program - 90 minutes of Outtakes from the film.
MVD will release the DVD on 11/20/2007

PR reports: New York City's glam punk band
Semi Precious Weapons are set to release their debut album, We Love You,
on October 30 via Precious Records.
The much-anticipated album, executive produced
by Tony Visconti (T. Rex, David Bowie, Morrissey), contains 10 original
tracks including the rocking "Semi Precious Weapons," "Rock n' Roll Never
Looked So Beautiful," and the heartfelt "Genius." We Love You also features
the band's first single, "Magnetic Baby."
The song is sonic perfection that opens
with the line "It's not my fault I look better in her party dress" (he
does!). Six foot tall, platinum blonde lead singer Justin Tranter evokes
comparisons to music's most charismatic front men, from Bowie to Iggy Pop
to Marc Bolan to David Johansen. In fact, Tranter recently performed at
the Marc Bolan 30th Anniversary Concert at the Delacorte Theater in New
York City.

PR reports: The Staple Singers were best known
for their '70s Stax hits like "Respect Yourself," "I'll Take You There"
and "If You're Ready (Come Go With Me)," but in fact the Chicago quartet's
recording career dates back to the '50s on the Vee-Jay and Riverside labels.
Their fifth effort was a Christmas album titled The 25th Day of December,
which the All Music Guide calls "the group's finest '60s collection." The
long-out-of-print album will be available once again this holiday season
on Riverside Records through Concord Music Group. The Staple Singers Christmas
reissue has been digitally mastered and is enclosed in a DigiPack with
all new artwork.
Reissued for the first time, the album
contains 12 holiday and spiritual classics including "Joy To The World,"
"Silent Night" and "Go Tell It on the Mountain." Included also is the Staples'
treatment of the Rev. Thomas Dorsey's "The Savior Is Born." -
