antiMusic reports: James Blunt seemed to come
out of nowhere a couple years ago to become an international superstar.
His highly anticipated new album "All The Lost Souls" is a certified smash,
topping charts across the globe last week and debuting at No. 7 here in
the US. This week we have a treat for Blunt fans old and new. We asked
James to pick some of his favorites songs from the new CD and tell us a
bit about each one. We conclude the special today with James telling us
about two songs "One of the Brightest Stars" and "I'll Take Everything":
One of the Brightest Stars: One of the
brightest stars reflects on elements of stardom and doesn't necessarily
sound entirely positive in some aspects of it. You know it's one of those
moments where you start feeling the pressure a little bit and seeing again
how people's perceptions of you or your public persona changes.
I'll Take Everything: "I'll Take Everything"
is just a great celebration of life and mortality and for me, I just wanted
to make a song that captured the essence of being alive and that spark
for a moment; the whole notion of life is that there is death at the same
time and it has such a celebration of the two.

antiMusic reports: Van Halen sent over an
update. Most of it is recapping reviews so we'll skip most of that but
of interest is that two new dates have been added in Vegas. With a blazing
and defiant guitar run, rock legends VAN HALEN lit the torch on the opening
night of one of the most highly anticipated tours in rock history.
More than 18,000 fans, including those
lining the rafters, stood on their feet at the Charlotte Bobcats Arena,
as original lead vocalist David Lee Roth took the stage with the band.
It was a celebration of more than 22 years in the making.
And the capacity crowd in Charlotte answered
the age old question. Yes, everybody wants some. Shows in other cities
including LA and New York sold out in minutes. Two brand new dates have
also been added to the tour.

PR reports: Taking Back Sunday would like
to announce that vocalist-guitarist Fred Mascherino has decided to leave
the band to pursue a solo career. Mascherino joined Taking Back Sunday
in 2003 and appeared on the band's gold-certified albums Louder Now and
Where You Want To Be.
"We are sad to see Fred go," says vocalist
Adam Lazzara, "and we wish him well with his new project. As for Taking
Back Sunday, we're alive and well. We've started working on the new album
and it feels really good."
"There's a creative spark that comes in
this part of the process and for a band there's nothing better than when
you hit it and start having two hour conversations about music," adds bassist,
Matt Rubano. "That's where we are and we're excited to challenge ourselves
and see what the future holds."- more

antiMusic reports: Down's Pepper Keenan is
just one of the many critics of how the Feds handled Hurricane Katrina
which devastated his home town. But in a recent interview he saves one
of his strongest attacks for Kanye West for turning the disastrous government
response into a race issue, a move that Keenan calls retarded.
Here are some excepts from the Straight.com
story: Just before Hurricane Katrina cut a horrifying swath across the
U.S. Gulf Coast in August of 2005, the members of metal quintet DOWN had
gathered in their hometown of New Orleans to work on new material for their
third CD, "Over the Under". Guitarist Pepper Keenan made the smart move
of leaving the area before the storm hit, and apart from losing power for
a month, his house was all right. But he didn't walk away from the experience
unscathed, and neither did his Big Easy bandmates.
The fortitude of Louisiana natives in the
face of Katrina's destruction is cited on "Over the Under" tracks like
"On March the Saints," but as Keenan explains, the city is still terribly
wounded more than two years after the disaster. And it hasn't gotten much
help with reconstruction from the Bush administration. "If they did as
much in New Orleans as they're doin' in f***in' Iraq we'd be fine," blusters
Keenan, before decrying Kanye West's assertion that Dubya's disregard for
Katrina victims stems from his indifference toward blacks. "I don't care
about Kanye West," he counters. "I mean, everybody was damaged in the storm.
For Kanye West to make it a black thing was retarded."-

antiMusic reports: Recording Industry vs The
People delivers some pretty big news "The first-ever jury trial for the
RIAA, in Vrigin v. Thomas (renamed Capitol v. Thomas after Virgin Records
withdrew from case), has resulted in a verdict against the defendant, Jammie
Thomas, in the amount of $220,000." The fine was for 24 songs the RIAA
claimed the defendant illegally made available online.
Recording Industry vs The People's editor
added this opinion: I'm sorry to hear that Ms. Thomas lost, but I don't
think the case is over by a long shot; the verdict -- based as it upon
an entirely erroneous jury instruction going to the very heart of the case
-- will almost definitely be set aside on appeal.
The heart of that claim comes from this
report by the site: It appears that the RIAA lawyers forgot to notify Judge
Karas, the presiding judge in , that a decision they'd sent him in August
was vacated a week ago. Read more about both cases- here

Reuters reports: Arkansas said on Thursday
it is probing the online ticket sales for pop idol Hannah Montana's upcoming
U.S. tour, whose prices have shot above those of superstars the Police
and Bruce Springsteen.
Arkansas Attorney General Dustin McDaniel
said he had received numerous complaints from parents disappointed they
were unable to get tickets to the Disney Channel star's tour because they
sold out within minutes.
McDaniel said he was concerned that some
ticket brokers and resellers used computer software to breach an online
sales system run by Ticketmaster to cut in ahead of legitimate customers,
and that some tickets were being offered for sale before they existed.-

Gigwise reports: Soul star Sharon Jones has
accused Amy Winehouse and Mark Ronson of hijacking her sound.
Ronson hired Jones' backing band to play
instrumentation on six tracks on Winehouse's hugely successful album 'Back
to Black.' They went on to play with Wino on her UK tour.
But in an interview with the New York Times,
Jones clearly feels mixed about the collaboration. She said: "We were just
sitting here minding our own business, doing our little 45s and albums,
and all of a sudden they were like, 'I want your sound.' First, I feel
kind of angry about it.- more

Punknews.org reports: Strung Out is apparently
the latest band to fall prey to thieves, having suffered the loss of their
van and trailer. The band confirmed reports with a post on their official
message board from drummer Jordan Burns:
So our van and trailer just got stolen
from our hotel here in Philly around 7:30am. We had just checked in and
no more then 20 minutes later, Chris happened to look out the window and
see our van driving out. Sure enough, it was skidrown mother f***er ripping
it off.
So we have lost ALL of our equipment, all
of our merch, tons of personal stuff and we are pretty much f***ed and
stuck in a s***ty Days Inn in a f***ed up part of town in Philly. There
was a double homicide 2 blocks down the road that we were watching about
on TV so ya, not a nice part of town at all.- more
