Arrested Development Are Back
PR reports: The critically lauded Arrested Development is set to release Since The Last Time (Vagabond Records & Tapes) in North America, the band's first album of new material in over 12 years. The CD will finally get a US release on October 30th.

One of the most influential bands of the positive hip hop movement and known for their political and socially conscious lyrics, Arrested Development exploded onto the scene in 1992 with the Grammy-winning album 3 Years, 5 Months and 2 Days in the Life Of … Now with the October 30 release of Since The Last Time, Arrested Development is poised to re-join the ranks of the consummate bands and musicians they helped inspire, such as the Black Eyed Peas, who Arrested Development recently played an unprecedented gig with in Jerusalem, as well as The Roots and Common. Even brand new acts like Gym Class Heroes have cited the band's influence. Group frontman Speech collaborated on "Biter's Block" off that band's highly successful new album.- more on this story

Limbonic Art Return
PR reports: With a back catalogue of some of the great classics from the history of symphonic Black Metal, the long-awaited return of the masters of this genre is finally here after five long years! The band split following the release of 'The Ultimate Death Worship' in 2002, an album thought impossible to follow.

In the intervening years the members have been active in other projects (Morfeus in Dimension F3H, Daemon in Sarcoma Inc and contributing vocals on the debut Zyklon album) - but now the follow-up to 'The Ultimate Death Worship' is finally upon us!

On 06.06.06 the two members, Daemon and Morfeus, decided to bring back the dark & powerful entity that is Limbonic Art. With their comeback album, 'Legacy Of Evil,' the band strike back with full force – more intense and malevolent than ever. This is a well-crafted Black Metal massacre, with heart and soul!- Myspace page

Spin Punk
PR reports: Slacker, Inc. and Spin magazine today announced a new "Spin Punk" Slacker Spotlight Station. The free Slacker station complements the cover story of the October Spin, "1977: The Year Punk Exploded!" the ultimate punk issue, and enables a personal, one-click punk listening experience.

The collaboration between Spin editors and Slacker to create Spin Punk adds a new dimension to music by combining an in-depth editorial feature with a personal radio experience. The Spin Punk station consists of handpicked songs representing the most influential punk music spanning three decades and is the musical counterpart to Spin's punk coverage. The issue includes an article chronicling the rise of punk, explosive interviews with the Sex Pistols' Johnny Rotten and the Clash's Mick Jones, a definitive timeline of punk in 1977, and much more.

"Spin has always been about giving our readers a new perspective on music," said Malcolm Campbell, publisher of Spin. "By partnering with Slacker, our '30 Years of Punk' issue provides a new take on the evolution of Punk. Readers can now simply click and listen to the music that has left an indelible mark on our culture." Slacker listeners can also use the Slacker web player's heart and ban buttons to personalize the Spin Punk experience.

Song of America
PR reports: A host of respected and Grammy winning indie artists contribute to Song of America a unique 50-song, three-CD set designed to tell the history of our country through song, from 1492 through modern times. Featuring a diverse array of artists including Folk Family Robinson (Black Crowes), the Blind Boys of Alabama, Devendra Banhart, Martha Wainwright, Andrew Bird, Janis Ian, Marah, Old Crow Medicine Show and more, the collection spans the folk, blues, rock, R&B, country, classical and hip-hop genres. An ambitious but beatifully realized project, the three CDs deliver up gorgeous music as well as many interesting historical tidbits.

The collection is the brainchild of former U.S. Attorney General Janet Reno and artist/songwriter/producer Ed Pettersen. Reno, who appropriately is pretty well acquainted with our nation's history (lawyers have to learn a thing called precedence), does not take any credit for the musical direction of the set. Pettersen, whom we introduced to you last fall with his latest folk/rock release, The New Punk Blues of Ed Pettersen, headed up the production team and was in studio with many of the artists, recording between New York and LA. Some beautiful gems were also delivered by the artist's themselves, such as Harper Simon's makeover of Yankee Doodle and Janis Ian's haunting "Johnny We Hardly Knew Ye". Not to mention Marah, who delivered probably the rockingest version of "John's Brown Body" you've every heard. The overall sound quality of the compilation is equally impressive, thanks to the mic techniques and co-production of Bob Olhsson, former Motown engineer and audio expert extraodinaire.

CD sales benefit non-profit organizations which promote the preservation of our musical history and the teaching of history through music, including the Voices Across Time project of the Center for American Music and The Society for American Music, Folk Alliance, and the Sing Out Resource Center.- more info

The Pendletons Preview
PR reports: Athens, GA favorites The Pendletons are thrilled to announce the release of the band's full-length debut Oh, Me! on the new Athens-born, New York-based indie outlaw label. Athens audiences got their first introduction to The Pendletons when the band opened numerous shows for ATO Records' The Whigs. Both acts have since established tremendous fanbases in and out of Athens.

Frontman Adam Saunders just returned from a summer on the West Coast recording with friends The Whigs. Though Saunders says he's more comfortable singing and playing a six-string, he laid the bass parts for The Whigs next ATO release. Back from vacation, Saunders and band are hitting the road

The Pendletons' sound can easily be described as "the best of Athens indie rock meets the best of elsewhere". Oh, Me! highlights many common historical features of Athens' music—ultra-catchy melodies, flashy parts, and a downhome nature that harkens back the old days of vinyl-based rock 'n' roll. But, The Pendletons update the traditional Athens sound in a way that makes even Peter Buck dance with a beer high in the air (seriously…. He did it at SXSW!) Check out the first single "Sad Songs"- (mp3 is here)

....Review: Bear Claw - Slow Speed: Deep Owls
The sound of Bear Claw may even find its root pre-Shellac. Bear Claw has a perfect EP hidden in Slow Speed: Deep Owls, but its indiscriminate relentlessness plays against its potential full length appeal. (3 stars) - Read the full Bear Claw - Slow Speed: Deep Owls review
