Shop Boy Vs Bono / Live Earth |
Contact Music reports: PET SHOP BOYS frontman
NEIL TENNANT has slammed "campaign concerts" like this summer's (07) Live
Earth gig - because he hates the idea of musicians preaching to the public.
The singer believes it is arrogant to suggest celebrities know more about
big issues than the average person on the street. And he accuses campaigning
rocker Bono of using high-profile do-gooding concerts such as 1985's Live
Aid, Live8 in 2005 and Live Earth in July (07) to increase his own fame.
Tennant says, "I've always been against
the idea of rock stars lecturing people as if they know something the rest
of us don't - it looks arrogant...
"Bono uses his celebrity but in doing so
he increases his celebrity. I've never been totally convinced that the
rest of U2 feel comfortable with that."

Lohan
Coke/DUI Bust |
TMZ reports: In a press conference this afternoon
about the arrest of Lindsay Lohan, cops say they found a "usable amount"
of a drug at the scene, which they say was cocaine. Lt. Mitch McCann of
the Beverly Hills Police Department would not say where the drug was found,
but it was "not on her person."
Police tell TMZ that 20-year-old Lohan
and two other adults were in her 2005 Mercedes SL-65 convertible when she
lost control and crashed into a curb and trees in Beverly Hills around
5:30 AM. After the crash, police say LiLo got into another car and was
driven to Century City Hospital where she was treated for minor injuries
that involved "something to her upper chest area." Police said the two
other people in her car were not hurt. [see full story for more]-

Park Live Earth |
PR reports: Grammy Award-winning band Linkin
Park will headline the Tokyo leg of the 24-hour, 7-continent Live Earth
concert series on July 7, 2007, organizers announced today. The full artist
lineup and ticketing information for Live Earth Tokyo, which is being staged
at Makuhari Messe, will be announced on May 29.
Linkin Park has been leading the charge
against climate change with MUSIC FOR RELIEF, the foundation the band established
in 2005 to aid the victims of the tsunami in South Asia. The organization
now aims to mobilize the music community and music fans to help with various
causes around the world, primarily disaster response and a proactive campaign
to weaken and decelerate future natural disasters by raising awareness
about the environmental consequences of climate change and our responsibility
to reduce greenhouse gasses and develop alternate, renewable forms of energy.
Climate crisis awareness could be one
of the defining issues of our generation, and were proud to play this
show in support of that effort, said Mike Shinoda, Linkin Park band member.

Ramones
Vs Doc Martens |
PR reports: Mickey Leigh, brother of the late
Joey Ramone, has issued the following statement concerning the seeming
endorsement of Doc Martens:
"Obviously, we are in the same position
as Courtney Love, as well as the Estates of the others depicted (in the
ad). We were never consulted about this ad. We were never asked for permission
to use Joey's image, or paid for the use of it. As Executor of my brother's
estate I never would have approved this ad as Joey never wore these shoes.
And, not that my brother was terribly religious, but the fact that he was
Jewish, and this ad is not exactly Kosher, makes it that much more inappropriate,
inconsiderate and contemptible.
"Though we were about to formulate a statement
to the above effect, Courtney certainly has a louder, more influential
voice, and I am thrilled that she got through to the them." [interesting
that they didn't approve the ad before it ran. Maybe the Easter Bunny is
also running things over there. If that's the case he should be given the
boot.] - Click

Ace
is Back |
Blabbermouth reports: New York radio personality
and VH1 Classic VJ/host Eddie Trunk has posted the following message in
his blog:
"Stopped by and visited my old friend Ace
Frehley last night [Thursday, May 24] at the [New York City] studio where
he is now mixing his upcoming CD. Ace is doing so well, is totally healthy
and just in a great place now. I am very proud of him. Ace has recorded
10 new songs so far and is completing three to use as a demo for now. I
can tell you there is some strong label interest so he will no doubt have
several options to release it. I heard two of the three new songs that
are being finalized and I must say I was really impressed with them. [see

Metallica
St Anger Testament |
Blabbermouth reports:
TESTAMENT frontman Chuck Billy has slammed
fellow San Francisco Bay Area metallers METALLICA for releasing 2003's
"St. Anger", an album that Billy says was so disappointing that he actually
took the CD back to the record store. The following is an excerpt from
an interview Chuck gave to "The Classic Metal Show":
The Classic Metal Show: Is it disappointing
to you when a band says that they are going to go back to their roots,
and then they put out a product that just doesn't revisit their roots at
all?
Chuck Billy: I hope [they go back to their
roots]. I've never taken back a record ever that I've bought, but I took
back the METALLICA record. I was so angered by what he
it was just like
a big turnoff. I was like, "Oh no!" It was definitely taking a stand for
that, because I've always been a big METALLICA fan and supporter.[see full

film about the late JOY DIVISION frontman IAN CURTIS has won the Best European
Film award at this year's Cannes Film Festival. The film, entitled Control,
was directed by famed Dutch still and music video photographer Anton Corbijn
and stars former warehouse worker Sam Riley as troubled Curtis in the years
leading up to his suicide in 1980. On granting the award the Cannes jury
said, "This is a very impressive and assured debut from a renowned photographer,
but he never allows the look of the film, beautiful though it is, to detract
from the powerful story and character development[see full story for more]-

The Flood Lose Their Voice |
Lambgoat reports: Since The Flood vocalist
Chuck Bouley has amicably left the group. According to the band, "Chuck
has decided that the touring life is not for him. We love him and wish
him the best, and STF will never be quite the same without him."
The Massachusetts hardcore band now seeks
a replacement, stating:
"We're not quite ready to hang it up, as
we have a great label, booking agent, and some serious tours scheduled.
With that all said, you all know what we sound like and anyone who has
seen us live knows that we demand an energetic pressence on stage. If you
feel like you can fill Chuck's massive shoes, we'd like to hear from you.
