X Illness |
KNAC reports: Racer X bassist John (Juan)
Alderete has issued the following update via the band's official website:
"I have recently been diagnosed with a rare blood disease called Polycythemia
Vera. It is classified as one of the Myeloproliferative disorders... I
am making this announcement public early because of the urgency of much
needed donations! My disorder is considered an orphan disease meaning it
affects fewer than 200,000 people. These disorders have been noticeably
underserved with respect to research funding. Pharmaceutical companies
do not see much profit in 200,000 patients and the goverment tends to hand
money to the bigger diseases plaguing our society.
I have agreed to help the MPD Foundation
by asking all my friends and fans to become aware of this problem. You
can reach out to your friends, and they can reach out to their friends
until we have an army of supporters! Together we can help find a cure.
You can help me and others living with this disease by donating to www.mpdfoundation.org/donations.

Straylight
Run Living in the Future |
PR reports: On June 19th, Straylight Run with
release their sophomore effort, The Needles The Space on Universal Republic
Records. Do John and Michelle Nolan think too much? Straylight Run’s sibling
frontpeople – both sing, write, and play guitar and piano, ably enabled
in their musical ruminations by bassist Shaun Cooper and drummer Will Noon
– don’t seem like eggheads; but there’s no doubting the intelligent design
of their gloriously adventurous off-kilter pop and the existential underpinnings
of their lyrics.
Asked about “Soon We’ll Be Living in the
Future,” the emotionally charged first single off Straylight Run’s forthcoming
album, The Needles The Space (Universal Republic Records), John confides:
“I’m really happy with how that song turned out because I was finally able
to put a finger on a feeling I have about living and dying. It’s a frustrating
and terrifying experience living with the full knowledge that at any point
in any day you could die, and what would your life have meant? Everything
you’re doing – what does it actually mean in the context of your life as
a whole? It’s something I probably think about too much. It’s not a good
idea to be too thoughtful about such things.” [listen to the single at

Grim. The music video for ‘Aesthetics of Hate’ off of the band’s latest

Campy
Pop-Horror Tour |
PR reports: Bryan Scary and The Shredding
Tears perform “campy pop-horror" theatrics for national tour this summer
in support of debut album The Shredding Tears. Scary’s debut album The
Shredding Tears, named after his backing band, (Get that? The band is Bryan
Scary and The Shredding Tears, and the album is The Shredding Tears – whew!)
is an hour-plus 15-track concept album that shifts from 60’s psychedelia
to glam rock to chamber pop to progressive rock to musical theatre, all
rolled into one. “As a vocalist,” says music journalist George Graham,
“Scary is also impressive in his range and chameleon-like ability to put
on the nasal twang of a John Lennon, layering on sweet falsetto Beach-Boy-style
parts, and dropping down for some low vocals, and even tossing off a momentary
Bob Dylan imitation.”

Sued over Deadly Crash |
TMZ reports: TMZ has obtained a lawsuit filed
by the husband of the woman killed in a car crash involving former "America's
Got Talent" judge Brandy Norwood. It's the second lawsuit the singer is
facing regarding the accident.
In the documents, filed today in Los Angeles
County Superior Court, Marquane Hdidou claims that Brandy and another motorist
named Mallory Ham were "recklessly and carelessly ... traveling too fast
for conditions and "following too closely" on the 405 Freeway, which factored
into the collision that killed his wife, Awatef Aboudihaj on December 30.
As a result of his wife's death, Hdidou
claims in the lawsuit that he has, "forever been deprived the support and
maintenance, services, guidance, companionship, comfort, affection, solace,
moral support, society, care, love, consortium and other benefits" from

Paris To Jail |
TMZ reports: Paris Hilton is in big trouble,
if the Los Angeles City Attorney has his way. TMZ has obtained documents
filed with the court, in which prosecutors say they want Hilton to spend
45 days in jail.
Paris must appear tomorrow on a probation
violation, for allegedly driving on a suspended license Hilton was already
on probation after pleading no contest last January to alcohol-related
reckless driving. The DMV had suspended Hilton's license as a result of
her DUI bust.
While her license was suspended, Hilton
was stopped by the CHP last January 15, and again by the L.A. County Sheriffs
on February 27.
The City Attorney will argue that Hilton
certainly knew after she was stopped in January that she wasn't allowed
to drive, so the second stop was a flagrant violation of law. [see full

Genfan at Take A Chance Tuesday's Free Concert Series |
PR reports: Vicki Genfan, New Jersey's expert
fingerstyle guitarist and prolific singer/songwriter receiving rave reviews
the world over, is scheduled to perform live for the prestigious Take A
Chance Tuesday's Free Concert Series hosted at The Ark on Tuesday, June
26th, 2007. Genfan takes the stage presenting her signature percussive
guitar style and emotive songwriting talent at 8PM.
Vicki Genfan hears music that ordinary
people do not. Luckily for us, she knows how to share her gift with people
of every age. Vicki has taken a musical “quantum leap”, changing the way
an acoustic guitar makes music, exhibiting a mastery of the acoustic guitar
that borders on pure alchemy – and in fact, audiences can hardly believe
she’s got only two hands. An almost constant companion to her ‘slapping’,
‘tapping’ and use of 25 different guitar tunings, are her pure, expressive
vocals that dig deep and stir the soul. Vicki writes and beautifully sings
her own brand of music and lyrics while putting her unmistakable imprint
on some of our classic ‘hits’ like the Beatles’ Norweigian Wood and Marvin
Gaye’s What’s Going On. As a bonus, Vicki’s audiences feel they are part
of something special, through her stories, her warmth and her humor.[see
