McCready's Flight to Mars Benefit |
PR reports: Flight to Mars will perform a
special benefit concert for the Northwest Chapter of the Crohn’s &
Colitis Foundation of America (CCFA) at Seattle’s Showbox on Saturday,
April 7th. Local artists The Purrs, North Twin and Jeff Fielder join Flight
to Mars for an evening of music in support of CCFA’s continued work toward
finding a cure for Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis. The Showbox’s
1,200 capacity will provide an intimate venue for fans and CCFA supporters.
Tickets for this benefit concert are $20 plus applicable service charges
and are on sale now at Ticketmaster outlets. See full story for details
about special ticket packages.
Founded in 2003, Flight to Mars, a tribute
to the 80’s rock band UFO, features Pearl Jam lead guitarist Mike McCready.
That same year, the yet to be named Flight to Mars lineup played live at
Seattle’s Sunset Tavern as part of a surprise encore set after The Rockfords,
McCready’s other side project, played the first ever CCFA benefit concert.
Joining McCready in Flight to Mars are friends and local musicians Tim
DiJulio (guitar), Gary Westlake (bass), Kelly Van Camp (drums) and Paul
Passereli (vocals). In 2002 McCready made public his 20-year battle with
Crohn’s Disease and ulcerative colitis and has since been committed to
raising awareness and funding for CCFA. "As a patient living with Crohn's
and colitis, the CCFA has played a huge part in helping me get the support
and information that I need," says McCready. "I'm grateful that my band
mates and friends can support and join me for a night of music and fun
that will help us find a cure for these debilitating diseases."

Electric's Otherly Opus |
PR reports: Longtime Tooth & Nail signees
Joy Electric has announced the title and track listing for its new album,
The Otherly Opus, the fifth and final installment of the Legacy series
of concept albums. “I wanted to do a concept record that was short,” says
bandleader Ronnie Martin. “You think ‘concept’, you start thinking ten
minute epics. I said, ‘no’ take all the ideas of that – the overblown vocals,
the bombastic titles – then put it in short songs. I thought it was an
interesting direction to take it.”
Those familiar with the earlier recordings
of Joy Electric will be pleased with the first half of The Otherly Opus,
a collection of songs Martin describes as “an escapist magical fantasy
kind of thing, a little on the personal side… and it goes through these
singular topics,” while the tracks on the final half “deal with the fall
of Adam and Eve, that antediluvian period of biblical history,” explains
Martin.[see full story for more]- Click

Army 35th Anniversary Edition |
PR reports: The 35th anniversary edition of
GUITAR ARMY from author and 1960s activist John Sinclair, who spearheaded
the cultural revolutionary vanguard White Panther Party and managed the
Detroit rock band MC5, will be released on May Day, 2007. This new expanded
and updated Process Media edition of GUITAR ARMY (publication date May
1, 2007) is packed with 40 previously unreleased period photos, an introduction
by Michael Simmons, and a bonus CD with rare music recordings. Tracks include
music from the MC5 and other Detroit-area bands as well as Black Panther
Chairman Bobby Seale on the White Panthers and previously unreleased White
Panther Party meetings.
“The rock & roll revolution posed a
threat for a few years there,” said John Sinclair from his base in Amsterdam.
“But they bought it off, covered up their tracks and pretend it never happened.
They won’t even let the MC5 into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame! But
you can see and feel it happening in the pages of this 35th anniversary
edition of Guitar Army—that’s why I wrote it. The excitement and thrills
of a real rock & roll revolution in progress are still in there.”[see

Dupri
Signs Jagged Edge |
PR reports: It’s been reunion after reunion
since Atlanta music mogul Jermaine Dupri assumed the presidency of Island
Records Urban Music last month. First, his new position placed him back
in the offices with Island Def Jam Chairman Antonio “L.A.” Reid. When Reid
was running Atlanta’s LaFace Records years ago, Dupri produced music for
LaFace acts TLC and Usher.
Now it’s just been announced that Dupri
has given Atlanta R&B quartet Jagged Edge a home on his new label.
And as anyone who has followed the group’s career knows, it was Dupri who
signed the crooners behind such hit singles as “Let’s Get Married” and
“Gotta Be” to their first deal on his So So Def imprint.-
