Dir reports: We're celebrating the release
of Evans Blue new CD, "THE PURSUIT BEGINS WHEN THIS portrayal OF LIFE ENDS,"
this week. We asked the band to pick their five favorite tracks from the
CD and tell us a little bit about each one.
Today they tell us about In a Red Dress
and Alone: This is the story of a conversation between a young woman and
the device that she holds in her hand. In my story the dress starts out
being white.

Launch reports: John Mayer has been blogging
about the arrests made at his show in Pennsylvania at the weekend. Police
arrested 63 people at the show at Hershey Park Pavilion on Saturday (July
21), 46 arrests were made for underage drinking.
In a message on his official blog, Mayer
had a typically irreverent message for those arrested. "First, to the 46
people accused of underage drinking; what were you thinking? You have your
whole life to engage in underage drinking. What's the hurry? I didn't start
underage drinking until I was 26. Underage drinking is not an function
of age, but of style. And you kids are way too young to truly appreciate
the nuances of true underage drinking.
"Though the names of the arrested were
not released to the public, I was able to obtain them by way of my well-placed
source in the Hershey police department. Upon first glance, I find it interesting
that of the 63 arrested, 55 were named Kyle.

Contact Music reports: [it's a slow news day]
Pop star/actress HILARY DUFF drove a young fan to tears by refusing to
sign autographs, according to U.S. reports. The star was dining out with
her family at Pier 36 Seafood and Oyster bar in Richmond, Texas, last week
(18Jul07) when she reportedly snubbed the child.
The young girl was accompanied by a nine-year-old
pal, and both were carrying posters and T-shirts for their idol to sign
- but they arrived at the wrong moment.
A source tells the New York Daily News,
"...when the youngsters approached, (Hilary) said, 'I don't really get
to spend a lot of time with my family; sorry' and walked out the door.

punkbands reports: John Stabb's wife Mika
has posted an update on the Government Issue frontman's facial reconstruction
surgery. She commented: The surgery itself took about 4 hours, though we
were there all day. It was great to get that time to let each step of the
process sink in. I would've wanted to watch the operation, but I didn't
press the idea after I first brought it up last fri. w/ Dr. S. (I love
that kind of stuff & also didn't relish leaving john's side.
This is the first crisis of our still-nascent
marriage, you know! ~an emotional journey, indeed. I must say, I think
we're both handling it w/ panache, don'tcha think? ). John is now the proud
owner of some 5 or 6 titanium metal plates shoring up his "zygomatic tripod"
bones (around the eye orbit) and his upper jaw, both of which had been
sliding around; a screw (I think) under his right eye; a wide, leathery
splint over his nose, Silence Of The Lambs-style; and temporary braces
readjusting his teeth. The jaw alignment came out "better than expected":
so far, they have opted against wiring his jaw shut, although we will reevaluate
later this week. He will need to wear clueless-old-guy huge bug eye sunglasses
to protect the incision along his right eyebrow, destined to leave a wicked-cool
war wound. All in all, a kickass operation

Blabbermouth reports: METALLICA is hard at
work on its next album with producer Rick Rubin, and at least one person
outside the band has heard the songs: VELVET REVOLVER drummer Matt Sorum.
He tells RollingStone.com, "Lars [Ulrich,
METALLICA drummer] is a good friend of mine. He played me the demos from
San Francisco, and I turned and looked at him and I said, 'Master that
s*** and put it out.' It's ridiculous.
"The demos were sick. Eight-minute songs,
all these tempo changes, crazy fast. It's like, 'Dude, don't get slower
when you get older, but don't get faster!? How are you gonna play this
live?'- more

SMN reports: Brooklyn-based “death rapper”
NECRO has issued the following update:
“I decided to leave the tour collectively
with my manager and booking agent (both tour organizers) because we felt
the tour’s demographic was not receiving hip hop well. I was facing hostile,
disrespectful crowds and was returning the same energy back ten-fold by
being more aggressive than them. It was making a lot of people in the tour
crew nervous and there was concern someone might get hurt (NOT ME). It
was also being suggested that maybe I tone down my live show and not antagonize
the already antagonistic crowd. I couldn’t roll with that as it’s not my
style. I was holding back enough as it is but there is a line. All the
bands on the tour loved us and everyone behind the scenes knew we displayed
major heart and never once got phased by the hostility. We finished every
show with middle fingers up and a big ‘f*** You’ to the crowd.
I will make one thing clear for the haters:
we NEVER got booed OFF the stage. Not once. Yes a ton of emo kids booed
us at every show, but we had a twenty-five minute set every night and we
stayed on stage for every minute of it, and we represented.
