CMJ reports: Congressman Jay Inslee (D-WA)
spoke on behalf of his Internet Radio Equality Act today on the floor of
the US House Of Representatives, asking Congress to "fix this problem,"
calling SoundExchange's offer, which was ordered by the Copyright Royalty
Board (CRB), to raise the royalty rates currently paid by Internet radio
stations a "guillotine."
In what will likely be the last time the
situation will be addressed in said public forum before the July 15 ruling
goes into effect, Islee is still hopeful that a "viable and fair resolution"
will be met.
"We do not intend to let, in the words
of Don McLean's song, the music to die," he said. "It is, too, a part of
the American culture, and I will encourage my colleagues to help out by
cosponsoring this bill."- more

PR reports: Quickly establishing himself as
“the indie Rick Rubin” for his Midas Touch with edgy artists in rock, hip-pop
and punk, famed keyboardist and producer Ronnie King returns to his roots
as the producer of On The Western Front, the highly anticipated first album
by legendary Orange County punk band D.I. since their 2002 reunion. King
unabashedly calls it “the best punk rock record of the last ten years!”
From the early 80s through the mid-90s,
D.I. was a major presence on the same scene that brought the world other
hardcore acts like Social Distortion, TSOL and The Adolescents. D.I. has
been touring steadily since getting back together with a new lineup to
promote the compilation Caseyology, named for charismatic vocalist Casey
Royer. The band recently appeared on Discovery Channel’s Monster Garage,
and is host Jesse James’ favorite band.
King scored D.I. a new label deal with
Suburban Noize, the thriving SoCal label that launched the anti-establishment
heroes The Kottonmouth Kings into a global phenomenon.-

PR reports: Five Times August is set to re-release
a remixed/remastered and retitled version of its first album, “The Independent”
(originally called “Fry Street”) on July 24, 2007. In addition to the remixing
and remastering, the album will officially see national brick-and-mortar
distribution with the re-release via Wal-Mart. The difference between this
album and other CD’s in the rack beside it? No record label of any kind
has anything to do with it.
Since “Fry Street” was originally released,
nine songs from the album have been featured on television shows like MTV’s
“Laguna Beach,” the CW’s “One Tree Hill,” and Oxygen Channel’s “Bad Girls
Club.” These placements helped catapult Five Times August’s “Fry Street”
sales to over 100,000 in online digital stores like iTunes, and over 11,000
physical copies of the CD from FTA’s online store.- more

PR reports: Can a band that only released
one official full-length album in its career be considered legendary? Ask
any of the throng of Shark Island fans who flocked to the band’s hundreds
of shows during their reign on Sunset Strip in the 80s. Their answer: a
resounding yes! It’s a good bet that most still have their copy of 1990’s
Law Of The Order as they’ve waited over the years for more.
Those fans, their kids and a whole new
generation of rock and rollers will be ecstatic to hear that Shark Island
is finally resurfacing after over a decade apart with an explosive new
collection, Gathering Of The Faithful, that features 13 exciting new tracks
co-composed by lead singer Richard Black and guitarist Spencer Sercombe,
who originally met in high school and formed the group (originally known
as The Sharks) in 1979. - more

PR reports: The year 1967 marked the Summer
of Love, when the initial strains of psychedelia shared the pop charts
with the Tijuana Brass, the Monkees, Aretha Franklin, Nancy Sinatra and
a harmonizing quintet who managed to combine sophisticated pop and soul
with a touch of hippie aesthetic, the 5th Dimension. One of the great hit-making
groups of the time, the 5th Dimension recorded a respectable body of chart-top
hits: “Up Up & Away,” “Go Where You Wanna Go,” “Sweet Blindness,” “Stoned
Soul Picnic,” “Age of Aquarius,” “California Soul,” “Working on a Groovy
Thing,” “One Less Bell to Answer” and “(Last Night) I Couldn’t Get To Sleep
at All” among others.
Forty years after the group’s inception,
on August 7, Collectors’ Choice Music (CCM) will reissue ten 5th Dimension
long-players on seven CDs, representing the group’s entire Soul City/Bell
recorded output, plus the first post-group recording by the duo of Marilyn
McCoo & Billy Davis, Jr.- all
