Dillinger Escape Plan Week: Horse Hunter
antiMusic reports: Acclaimed metalers Dillinger Escape Plan have just released with their brand new album 'Ire Works'. To celebrate the release and to gain a bit more insight into the songs we asked bassist Liam Wilson to pick his five favorite tracks from the CD and tell us a bit about each. Here is Liam with today's song:

Horse Hunter - This is the last song we constructed, and was probably the most rewarding. For one, it showed us that we could compose with Gil and the results would be consistent with the Dillinger sound as far as we were concerned. I believe it sums up just about every clever trick we've got up our sleeves. The opening is as aggressive and overripe as anything from the early years, segue into prog-jazz improv into what for whatever reason Steve Evetts (producer/engineer) kept calling the 'Alien Autopsy' part where the the section starts with everything in 7/8 time and then the rhythm section descends into a off-kilter 6/8 pattern against the melodic stuff, and then the song winds up for a raging bridge before it winds itself back down just as abruptly into this total Dave Lombardo drum homage with these pummeling fills transitioning into the finale of the song featuring Brent Hinds (Mastodon). We had almost jokingly discussed having Brent do something on the record for a long time, and then out of nowhere he just sorta calls and says he's coming to the West Coast to guest...We were still patch-working that track together when he started singing over that part and it really helped guide the rest of the song towards that climax. We had been tossing around the title 'Saigon Whore' for years, and since we were recording in what was considered 'Little Saigon' because of the almost overwhelming Vietnamese population in the town the studio was located, it seemed like a perfect fit. We had been calling the song 'Monster' which was short for 'we created a monster' because of how Frankenstein'd this thing turned out to be.

Brent preferred the title 'Horse Hunter', which Greg had on a list of tentative titles, because in his mind the simple question "Who hunts horses?" was a bizarre enough thing to comprehend.

Remy Ma Gang Trial
Contact Music reports: Rapper Remy Ma will face trial on gang assault and witness intimidation charges, a judge ruled on Wednesday (05Dec07).

The 26-year-old's lawyer, Ivan Fisher, asked to have the charges dismissed, citing insufficient evidence, but Manhattan State Supreme Court Justice Rena Uviller rejected his request.

Remy Ma - real name Remy Smith - has already been charged with assault and criminal possession of a weapon after the shooting of 23-year-old Makeda Barnes-Joseph outside a New York nightclub in July (07). One count of attempted murder was reduced to assault after evidence suggested the shooting was unintentional. - more on this story

QOTSA Vs Interscope
Punknews.org reports: More complaints have surfaced from yet another Interscope-signed artist. This time, Josh Homme of Queens of the Stone Age who joins Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails and And You Will Know Us By the Trail of Dead as disenchanted members of the Interscope family.

In the interview, Josh pulled no punches: F**k the labels man, they suck. The last thing they're stripping down is their own expense accounts and sh*t. I mean, Jimmy Iovine of Interscope records takes a private jet or rides first class to tell a band they don't get tour support. You know what I mean? F**k that shit, I'm tired of it. [Our] American label's f**king us like crazy, so f**k them.

Why should I not say anything, what am I afraid of? I'm not afraid of them. One of the things most notable about us is how we work. You could not like the music, you can do anything you want, but we work and there's no changing that fact. And all I want to do is what we agreed upon. - Another example of why rap labels and rock artists do not mix. On the other hand, the label's rock publicist seems to really be behind the new CD. Imagine how mad Josh would be if they had been stuck with one the inept people that work rap PR there! - read the full interview here

The benefit show will take place at the Dunkin Donut Center in Providence on 25 February (08) - five days after the fifth anniversary of the tragedy.

Pantera Frontman Spawns Punk Band
PR reports: Arson Anthem will be the first release via Housecore Records; a label created by Philip H. Anselmo and is the definitive collection of side projects, and projects he believes in. The band features Philip H. Anselmo (Pantera, Down, Superjoint Ritual), Mike IX Williams (EyeHateGod, Outlaw Order), III (Assjack, Superjoint Ritual), and Collin Yeo. Their debut EP will be out 2/19/08. Here is a little about the band:

With the current roster of supposed "extreme" or "underground" bands repetitively dishing out modern metal regurgitation, something had to give; enter Arson Anthem. Basking in the telepathic glow of filthy, vicious 80's-era punk and hardcore, and yearning for a spark, this improper outfit has finally ignited said spark. Fueled by stale vodka and non-filters, they've finally wrecked into a bare-bones, distorted, bastard vacuum.

After losing everything in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, Mike Williams moved into Philip's spare apartment. The two spent countless hours listening to Philip's collection of early hardcore bands; the timing was perfect to remedy this cabin fever. - the legend continues right here

The Police Eat Crow
Gigwise reports: The Police's drummer Stuart Copeland has been forced to apologise to President Michelle Bachelet of Chile after comments he made in an interview were viewed as derogatory.

Copeland told Chile's Mercurio newspaper in an interview in October: "Look, the future President of Argentina would be good for one beer; yours (would be good) for four."

Although it's not evident exactly what Copeland meant, many Chileans felt that his comments suggested that he found their female president, Bachelet, less attractive than Argentina's president-elect Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner. - Is this the kind of silliness we can expect if Hillary "12 pack" Clinton gets elected? My president is uglier then yours! At least interns will be kept busy. Read more on Copeland's statement and backpedaling here.

Bands Want A Piece of Ticket Scalping Profits
BBC reports: Managers behinds acts like Radiohead, Arctic Monkeys, and the Verve have called for a levy to be added to tickets resold on the internet.

The managers - who represent 400 other bands and artists - have teamed up to create the Resale Rights Society (RRS).

Under their plans, musicians would get a share in the proceeds of every ticket resold on websites such as eBay. RRS chairman Marc Marot said it was "unacceptable" money made from resales did not go to the live music industry.
- Didn't they make their money the first time they were sold? Aren't the resellers taking a risk no one will buy the tickets? Ah, but this tax is for their resellers benefit you see. Read about that here

Marley Adds More Van Halen Support Dates
PR reports: Ky-Mani Marley has been bringing rock audiences to their feet and earning rave reviews opening the news making Van Halen reunion tour of sold out arenas this fall, proving himself up to the challenge of the unusual pairing. For as the title of his recently released CD Radio implies, the mix of reggae roots, hip-hop, world music, R&B, rock and pop played by the second youngest son of musical icon Bob Marley has broad mainstream appeal.

As the Winston-Salem Journal noted on the tour's first shows, "Startled Van Halen fans in Charlotte and Greensboro gave Marley standing ovations at the end of his sets. This is all the more impressive since many people have never heard of him, much less his dramatic, street-smart music." And as USA Today observed, Marley "flashed his own charismatic side by enthralling the crowd with The March, a hip-hop/reggae hybrid song from his new album, Radio, that juxtaposed the war in Iraq with street violence." The topical song that has been captivating audiences on the tour is set to be released as his next single in the new year.

Is It True Spandau Ballet Reunite?
Gigwise reports: The original Spandau Ballet line-up is reportedly getting back together for a one-off show in Las Vegas.

Tony Hadley and Gary and Martin Kemp's long-standing feud has kept the eighties pop outfit apart for years, but now it seems a lucrative offer has tempted them back together.

A US property development company has apparently offered the group a massive £2million to perform for the show. - If it's a public company the shareholders need to revolt against the misappropriation of funds! more on this story here
