(antiMusic) Acclaimed metalers Dillinger Escape Plan have just released with their brand new album 'Ire Works'. To celebrate the release and to gain a bit more insight into the songs we asked bassist Liam Wilson to pick his five favorite tracks from the CD and tell us a bit about each. Here is Liam with today's song: Horse Hunter - This is the last song we constructed, and was probably the most rewarding. For one, it showed us that we could compose with Gil and the results would be consistent with the Dillinger sound as far as we were concerned. I believe it sums up just about every clever trick we've got up our sleeves. The opening is as aggressive and overripe as anything from the early years, segue into prog-jazz improv into what for whatever reason Steve Evetts (producer/engineer) kept calling the 'Alien Autopsy' part where the the section starts with everything in 7/8 time and then the rhythm section descends into a off-kilter 6/8 pattern against the melodic stuff, and then the song winds up for a raging bridge before it winds itself back down just as abruptly into this total Dave Lombardo drum homage with these pummeling fills transitioning into the finale of the song featuring Brent Hinds (Mastodon). We had almost jokingly discussed having Brent do something on the record for a long time, and then out of nowhere he just sorta calls and says he's coming to the West Coast to guest...We were still patch-working that track together when he started singing over that part and it really helped guide the rest of the song towards that climax. We had been tossing around the title 'Saigon Whore' for years, and since we were recording in what was considered 'Little Saigon' because of the almost overwhelming Vietnamese population in the town the studio was located, it seemed like a perfect fit. We had been calling the song 'Monster' which was short for 'we created a monster' because of how Frankenstein'd this thing turned out to be. Brent preferred the title 'Horse Hunter', which Greg had on a list of tentative titles, because in his mind the simple question "Who hunts horses?" was a bizarre enough thing to comprehend.
