Band Mistaken For Touring as PMFS Scrap Farewell Tour
Metal Underground reports: Planes Mistaken For Stars has scrapped their final touring plans due to a "family emergency." Here's a statement from the band:

"We are sorry to say but we have some bad news. Due to a family emergency within the PMFS family, we have to cancel the whole January tour and Europe. We tried to figure out a way around this but it has become more serious than expected and as we all know family comes first. Everything will be ok but now this is the time we are there for the person(s) in need.

"With this said, we will be playing only ONE more show (our final show) in February. This will be in Denver and we will keep you updated on the venue and date. You did read this correctly, there will be only ONE more Planes show. Hopefully you all can come and see us one last time in a couple of months. - more on this story

From Darkest Hour to Man and Wasp
Metal Underground reports: Darkest Hour guitarist Mike Schleibaum has formed a new band called Man and Wasp, comprised of members from Washington, DC and Gotherburg, Sweden. Here's the official statement:

"As we have witnessed over the past few years the disintegration of the music industry is upon us. And with every end comes a new beginning. Man and Wasp hails the destruction and rebuilding.

"By way of Washington, DC, Gothenburg, Sweden and parts unknown emerges Man and Wasp. An international creative fusion featuring Shelby Cinca (Frodus, Decahedron, The Cassettes), Mike Schleibaum (Darkest Hour), and Håkan Johansson (Division of Laura Lee, Frantic Mantis).

"In keeping in the true Washington, DC DIY spirit, Man and Wasp sends its sonic transmissions free of record label ties.

Beastie Boy Skips Music and Picks Top 16 Breakfast Buffets of 07
Filter reports: It's a very special and certainly unique Top Ten list today from none other than Adam Horovitz of Beastie Boys. I'll let him explain. "So...This past summer Beastie Boys toured around Europe performing at Gala Events in select cities...one thing we get excited about in Europe is the hotel's Breakfast Buffet...I got obsessed with the Breakfast Buffet and made it my mission to hit every one at every hotel we stayed at...why...? That's my business...anyways...I've critiqued each one and in no particular order…here it is....

My Top 10 (well top 16) Breakfast Buffets…a.k.a The B-Bizzle.......

Lisbon: sub-par spread...had all the basics... eggs... bacon... random meats+cheeses... some cereals... nice fancy environment though...the big plus here was the good coffee…and free wireless...the downer was the bogus seating... the big round pillow at your lower lumbar made for an uncomfortable eating experience... and... it took me a while to get my coffee*... oh…and no mush..**
- [was him skipping music a reflection of the current state of the biz? Who knows, but read his full b-bizzle list here]

Mike Patton Goes Hollywood
PR reports: Mike Patton (ex-Faith No More, Mr. Bungle and currently of Peeping Tom, Fantomas and Mondo Cane amongst others) steps into the world of film with "I Am Legend" and "A Perfect Place."

Patton's shape-shifting vocals will be heard in movie theaters across the country this month as he lends his voice to the dreaded creatures in "I Am Legend," the post-apocalyptic film set for release on Dec. 14. Next up is Patton's debut as a film composer with the film noir short, "A Perfect Place."

The 20-plus minute film also marks the directorial debut of Derrick Scocchera, one of the founders of Fantoma Films, best known for their catalog of rare, cult films reissued on DVD. The score creatively reflects the style and tone of the film, which focuses on a pair of bumbling friends trying to dispose of a body. The film, shot in anamorphic black and white, will be packaged as a double-disc with the score and distributed together via Ipecac Recordings in March of 2008. - more on this story

Gamblin' House Comin
PR reports: In January 2008, Echo Mountain Records will release Gamblin' House, by Malcolm Holcombe. The album is a fresh take on Holcombe's highly distinctive rustic music and lyricism.

Gambiln' House was recorded at Echo Mountain Studios in Asheville, NC by legendary country producer Ray Kennedy. Gamblin' House will be available digitally on January 15th and lands in stores on January 28th.

You will hear echoes of John Prine, Guy Clark, and the lesser-known kindred spirit Bill Morrissey, but the total package is all Malcolm Holcombe. It is a sound that combines his signature rough and scratchy vocals with harmonica-blessed folk, acoustic blues, stringband country, and small town bred soul. -
