antiMusic reports: Atreyu's new CD 'Lead Sails
And A Paper Anchor' hits stores next Tuesday and to celebrate we asked
Brandon to pick his top five favorite tracks from the CD and tell us a
little about each one. Today he tells us about "Becoming the Bull". Here's
Brandon:
This song, to me at least, was special
because it was the first song that we did in preproduction. I just remember
being so psyched on the fact that this song was the first of many to come.
We were all so excited on how things where
turning out. We were also really psyched on how well we were meshing.

antiMusic reports: Van Halen fans were ecstatic
when the band announced that they will be returning to the stage this fall
with their original frontman David Lee Roth. Some fans were disappointed
that original bassist Michael Anthony will not be a part of the reunion
with Eddie Van Halen's son Wolfgang taking his place. That disappointment
turned into anger when Anthony's image was replaced with Wolfgang on album
artwork posted on the band's website. Although, the original images were
quickly reinstated, now fans are angry that Anthony is being written out
of the band's songwriting history.
A fan wrote us on Saturday with the following:
On every single Van Halen song (with exception to the three new songs on
the Best of Both Worlds compilation, ) credits have always gone to Eddie
Van Halen, Alex Van Halen, Michael Anthony, and the lead singer who is
featured on the song (Roth/Hagar/Cherone). However, during the credits
of the film "Superbad", which features the song "Panama", the song is only
credited to the two Van Halens and Roth! Anthony continues to get snubbed
by his former band as they attempt to erase him from the history of the
band.
We looked a little further into this and
discovered that Anthony has been removed from the credits for all of the
songs from the band's Diamond Award winning album 1984 in the ASCAP database.-

PR reports: U.K. artist Lily Allen is regrettably
postponing her upcoming series of West Coast dates. U.S. authorities revoked
her work visa earlier this month when she was entering the country. The
reinstatement process has proven lengthier than anticipated, thus preventing
her tour from launching on September 6th in San Diego, CA.
She has also been forced to pull out of
an appearance at the MTV Video Music Awards.
"I am so disappointed that I won't be able
to come to the States at this time," says Lily. "I was really looking forward
to playing these shows and being part of the Video Music Awards. I want
my fans to know that I'll be back as soon as I possibly can!"

antiMusic reports: Godsmack have dropped plans
for a boxset to commemorate the group's 10th anniversary. They will release
a less ambitious "best of" album instead which will reportedly include
at least one new track and an unplugged DVD.
Drummer Shannon Larkin broke the news to
the Winnipeg Sun. "We're scrapping the box set idea in favor of a best-of
(album)," he said. "We realized that at this point, a box set would almost
be a vanity thing... it wouldn't really benefit our fans at all. So instead
we're going to do a best-of, add a new song or two, but definitely include
a DVD of our acoustic show in Las Vegas."- more

antiMusic reports: Piebald have been relatively
quiet for some time while fans awaited news from the group. But the news
that fans finally received from the band was probably the last thing they
wanted to hear- that the band had decided to break up.
The band is in the middle of a tour with
The Format, Steel Train, Limbeck, Reubens Accomplice which concludes on
September 7th in Colorado and it appears that this outing will be the band's
swansong. Travis posted the following message on the band's website Sunday:
Friends, friends, friends
we have not posted anything anywhere in quite
some time and our word on the street is that this is our last tour. All
the preceding words are true and we have decided to put Piebald to rest.
The past fifteen years or so have been
nothing short of extremely incredible. We have met lots of people, been
to lots of places and experienced a whole lot of life.-

retirement. The pop-country mega-seller announced during a press conference
on Saturday that he will release four new songs as part of a new compilation
package called "The Ultimate Hits," that is set to hit stores on November
6th.
Don't expect to see Garth in an arena near
you as he will maintain the touring aspect of his retirement so you'll
have to settle for the promotional events surrounding the new release and
the videos on the DVD which are part of the new hits package.
Garth retired in 2001 and says that he
plans to return home after he is finished promoting the new release.-
