Years of antiMusic: 2 Cents on the Eighties |
Day in Rock reports: It was nine years ago
this month that our sister site Rocknworld.com was launched. So to celebrate
9 years of antiMusic we'll be looking back at some of our most popular
articles since the beginning. Today we look back at the most popular 2
Cents article. Here is a bit of Chuck's thoughts on the 80s:
You know, the eighties are more popular
now than they were in the eighties. How the hell did that happen? Here’s
a newsflash for you kids; they weren’t all that great. I know because I
was there. But there were a few high points mixed in amongst all the lows.
First the lows: Let’s start with popular
culture during the eighties. Well, actually there really wasn’t much culture,
per se. Let’s see if this sums it up for you: If you thought the seventies
were a cultural abyss, the eighties were enough to make you want to claw
out your own eyes with a garden weasel.
Then there was the hair. And I’m talking
big hair on the chicks, not just on the hair-band boys. I saw women with
their hair jacked all the way up to the baby Jesus and I’m still emotionally
traumatized by the experience. It was scary – Freddy Krueger scary. [read

Avril Scam |
Idolator.com reports: Avril Lavigne's The
Best Damn Thing may be the No. 1 record in the country this week, but were
her sales numbers inflated by listeners' desire to hear Avril sing that
she's not just "the mother... princess," but "the motherf***ing princess"?
A MySpace blog post about one Avril fan's attempts to buy the explicit
version of Thing is making us wonder, since it was through that post--and
nowhere else--that we found out Lavigne's label, SonyBMG, is only making
the uncensored version of the album available to those who pony up for
the pricier CD/DVD edition:
Yesterday I went to buy Avril Lavigne's
new record "The Best Damn Thing" (shut up) for $9.99. They also had a "deluxe
limited edition" that featured a bonus DVD for $16.99. I have no interest
in paying extra for a DVD I will never watch so I passed, opting to buy
the single disc edition instead. When I popped the record into my CD player
I was surprised to hear that I purchased the edited version, the record
wasn't labeled as edited so I thought it was just a mistake…. [see full

Suge
Vs K-Fed |
TMZ reports: Suge Knight has Britney's back
... and Kevin Federline best watch his!
TMZ spotted the rapresario chewing out
a K-Fed lookalike outside of club Area last night, mistaking him for the
real thing while screaming, "He's a bitch!" and "Britney's my homegirl!"
at the unlucky doppleganger.
As he pulled out of the driveway he told
our cameras, "That fool want to act f**ked up with Britney, act weird about
her kids, we'll chase his ass up out this city!" -- Be warned K-Fed, or
end up the next Vanilla Ice! [check out the video at the full story link]-

Sanjaya's
Pot Dealing Mom? |
TMZ reports: Maybe that's why Sanjaya's always
got that goofy grin on his face! Turns out that Sanjy's mom, Jillian Blith,
used to be a pot-growing potentate -- and that his sister Shyamali was
no stranger to the art of toking herself.
The Momjaya was pinched by the Pierce County
Sheriff's Department in February 2005 in Pierce County, Wash. after they
found 310 marijuana plants -- and the Sis-jaya keeping watch with a bag
of weed and "smoking devices" -- in the Malakar family garage, as the National
Enquirer first smoked out today.
But -- buzzkill -- Shyamali, who was arrested
for possession, directed the cops to another green-growing facility nearby,
where they arrested Blith and her husband, Charles Quist (Sanjaya's stepdad).
Quist's mugshot, obtained by TMZ, bears a striking resemblance to Gary
Sinise, a very blitzed Gary Sinise. (We're told there's a mugshot of Shyamali,
but it can't be made public because she was only 17 at the time of the
bust.) [this explains so much, but the story doesn't end here, see the

Sum
41 Vs Dubya |
punkbands reports: There's a song on the new
[Canadian pop band] Sum 41 record in which Deryck Whibley, the johnson
to Avril Lavigne's punanny, says the "And now the president's dead/ Because
they blew off his head/ No more neck to be red/ I guess to heaven he fled."
Of course he's talking about George [W] Bush.
…Deryck issued a statement saying the line
is a metaphor... A metaphor using the term "The President of The United
States." [OMG how punk rawk!]
