Portugal. The Man Sets Release
PR reports: Alaska's favorite sons, Portugal. The Man, will see its second full-length CD, "Church Mouth," released July 24 on Fearless Records. The album was produced by Casey Bates (Gatsbys American Dream, Fear Before The March of Flames) and recorded this past February in Seattle, WA.

While this new offering from Portugal. The Man - John Baldwin Gourley (lead vocals, guitars, synthesizers, programming), Zachary Scott Carothers (bass, vocals percussion), and Jason Sechrist (drums, congas, percussion, vocals) - maintains its artistic mix of aurora borealis-avant-indie pop and post-punk, "Church Mouth" paves a new path for the band musically. A departure from 2006's drum-machine and sequencer-heavy "Waiter: You Vultures!," "Church Mouth" is an organic record that transcends genre constraints by managing to recall seemingly disparate acts such as the Beatles, Led Zeppelin, the White Stripes, the Mars Volta, and Santana. Portugal. The Man is currently on the road with Poison The Well through mid-May. The band plans to kick off its headlining tour of the U.S. in tandem with the July 24 release of "Church Mouth" with two special concerts in their northern home of Anchorage, Alaska.[see full story for more]- Click Here for the Full Story

3rd Angle
PR reports: From the creative well of Kris Anaya comes An Angle’s third offering, The Truth Is That You Are Alive, out June 12th on Drive-Thru Records. An Angle has two previous full-lengths on Drive-Thru, We Can Breathe Under Alcohol (2005) and …And Take It With A Grain of Salt (2004).

Anaya and An Angle have gone through several sonic transformations and the journey continues with The Truth, a rock album with pop influxes like the catchy bounce of “I’m Alright” and the lead single and forthcoming video, “Oh! Oh! Oh! Trouble!” Anaya gets gritty in the sexy blues bump of “C’mon C’mon” and shows he can shake it in “Ghost In The Mirror,” a dancey Arcade Fire-like number. It wouldn’t be An Angle without a few mid-tempo numbers of deep, philosophical introspection, like “No More Child In Me.” The Truth Is You Are Alive really shines with sweet tenderness of the lullaby “You Are Loved” and the straight-forward man and guitar combo on “Going To Heaven” that is signature An Angle.[see full story for more]- Click Here for the Full Story

Mothernight To Rock Mothers
PR reports: On May 8, Locomotive Records will unleash a debut release from one of its newest and most eclectic acts. Churned from the musical depths of Warsaw, Poland, Mothernight combines rock, metal, goth, and industrial to craft a sound best described as dark, dank, heavy bliss.

The origins of this act flourished in the most unlikely place–a birthday party, where guitarist Deimos met bassist/producer Gabriel. The two conspired to create music that blends the best elements of different rock styles. They worked as a duo for three years until drummer Berith signed on as the commander of their raucous rhythm. Finally, in 2004, former Silesia vocalist Freya caught their attention when she posted an announcement on the Internet that she was searching for a band with “experience, attitude and original ideas.” Upon hearing her demo CD, laden with the gravel-ridden, unrelenting and unforgiving vocals of a songstress-gone-bad, they invited her to rehearse with them in Warsaw immediately. The rest is beautiful bad-ass history.[see full story for more]- Click Here for the Full Story

Rediscover Al Stewart
PR reports: If all you know about Al Stewart is “Year of the Cat,” you’re missing the best parts of Al Stewart’s vaster-than-imagined body of work. Many believe that if weren’t for the pop leanings of his one huge American hit, and its follow up, “Time Passages,” Stewart might have been widely perceived as the deep and provocative writer he was, a folk artist with a fondness for historical subjects. Stewart had taken the old folk-song tradition of singing about real events, and producing contemporary songs in that style.

On June 22, Collectors’ Choice Music will release 13 of Stewart’s 16 CDs, curated by Stewart expert Thane Tierney with access to the artist’s private archives. Long underappreciated on these shores, these reissues may change that.[see full story for info on the reissues]- Click Here for the Full Story
