Lana Del Rey Slams Lady Gaga In Leaked Song?
(Radio.com) It seems Lady Gaga's Little Monsters have a new enemy in Lana Del Rey, whose leaked song "So Legit" allegedly takes a swipe at the ARTPOP singer.

After Del Rey's song leaked on Tuesday (July 23) many started noting the lyrics, which seem to diss Gaga and her "Born This Way" attitude. On the simple acoustic track, Del Rey sings, "Stefani, you suck, I know you're selling twenty million/Wish they could have seen you when we booed you off in Williamsburg."

Throughout the song Del Rey questions the legitimacy of this woman named Stefani, which, as luck would have it, also happens to be Lady Gaga's real name.

She snipes, "You're looking like a man, you're talking like a baby/How the f*** is your song in a Coke commercial? Crazy/I don't get it/Your taste once exquisite."

Del Rey questions the singer's motives claiming she is trying to steal her persona: "You called me the queen of the downtown scene, babe/ How the f*** would you go switch it up and then replace me?"

And then Del Rey goes for the jugular when she taunts, "Oh, girl, I see you walking 'round in your pearls/ Thinking that you're number one/You're so funny, 'cause honey, you're not." She's not done.

Jay-Z Hangs On To No. 1
(Radio.com) Since we last left Jay Z, he's lost the hyphen in his name, but his hold on the charts hasn't lessened at all. In its second week, Magna Carta… Holy Grail, the rapper's 12th solo album, spends its second week atop the Billboard 200, selling 129,000 copies in week two, according to data from Nielsen SoundScan.

The solid sales week follows a formidable debut last week, during which he sold 527,000 albums to have the second-largest first week of 2013. He's now sold 658,000 records, a hefty sum given that 1 million Samsung users received the album as a free download, which was not counted toward the chart tally.

Interestingly, though Magna Carta's continued success holds the reign for rap albums atop the chart, it's the first such album to spend two weeks there, as its predecessors (Yeezus, Born Sinner, The Gifted) bowed at No. 1 for only a week. According to Billboard, the last time that happened was in September 2011, when Lil Wayne's Tha Carter IV held at No. 1 for two weeks.

Hov's closest competitor this week ended up being Sara Bareilles. The California singer-songwriter hit No. 2 with The Blessed Unrest, her fourth studio album, selling 68,000 copies. That's a step down from her last album, 2010′s Kaleidoscope Heart, which sold 90,000 in its first week to debut at No. 1. The album's first single, "Brave," has found a home on the Adult Pop Songs chart, peaking so far at No. 13 on that chart.

Watch Radio.com's recent interview with Sara Bareilles and see who else landed near the top of the charts here.

An Animator's View Of Kanye West's 'Black Skinhead' Video
(Radio.com) In this week's episode of Rewind, we delve into Kanye West's "Black Skinhead" video, which he finally revealed Monday (July 22) at midnight following a leak of its unfinished version weeks ago.

While the new version is only slightly different than the one that leaked a few weeks ago, the official clip has an interactive component (available on 'Ye's site) where fans can control the speed of the video or take a screen grab. The clip was directed by Nick Knight, the visual artist who created the worldwide art installation West used to promote Yeezus.

We asked Chris "Broadway" Romero, video director and VP of Animation and R&D at Play GIG-IT, for some insight on the "Black Skinhead" clip, which stars none other than a CGI version of West himself.

"It's Kanye's response to his issue with paparazzi," Romero explained. "He knows people are going to slow it down, re-frame it and share it. He's giving them a way to do that within the context of this video and really break down his visuals on his terms with his audience, whom he cares about the most." More including the video.

Court Yard Hounds Go More Lighthearted With New Album
(Radio.com) Don't call Court Yard Hounds' new album Amelita a divorce album. Writing the Dixie Chicks duo's self-titled 2010 debut served as therapy for guitarist/vocalist Emily Robison in light of her divorce, but this time around, as her sister and bandmate Martie Maguire went through a divorce, Court Yard Hounds kept it "a little bit more lighthearted."

The first time around, Robison admits that she "cooped up and wrote" as an outlet for her heartbreak. She sent the songs that would become the band's debut to her sister, who urged her to record them.

"Court Yard Hounds is really a product of Martie and I wanting to continue to play together and create a new sound and a new path," Robison told Radio.com during week of release (July 16). "We really are trying to push each other out of our comfort zone. When Dixie Chicks started I was 16 and she was 19. I think when you do one band for so long and you're so successful with something, you can get very comfortable and you're not necessarily pushing yourself to do new things. For us, this band is a way for us to not only play and create and write more outside of that, but it's a way for us to try new things, which is the ultimate for any artist."

For the new album, the country-folk duo pushed itself lyrically by inventing a character named Amelita. Writing all but one of the album's songs themselves, the sisters drew from their own experiences while speaking through the fictional point of view of Amelita. "The World Smiles," for example, was written about Robison's daughter; while "The Road You Take" proved to be a crucial, albeit difficult, song through recording.

"I loved the music so much and I felt in my heart that the words had to be important," Robison explained. "I kept trying to write it and I kept procrastinating and I wouldn't commit to any lyrics for the song." more on this story

Fiona Apple Releases 'Hot Knife' Video
(Radio.com) In Fiona Apple's new video for "Hot Knife," off 2012′s The Idler Wheel, we get to see the many sides of the singer. The clip, shot by The Master director (and Apple's ex) Paul Thomas Anderson, starts with her banging the opening drum beats of the song before focusing in on her mouth to watch her enunciate, "If I'm butter, then he's a hot knife."

Soon Anderson switches to a black and white split screen of Apple and her sister, Maude Maggart, who lends her voice to the track. The two sing the chorus over and over again while staring at each other, never breaking eye contact.

By the time it's all said and done we get five side-by-side shots of Apple singing, drumming and convalescing along to the song. Watch the new video here.

Loretta Lynn Previews Her Performance of 150-Year-Old Civil War Song
(Radio.com) This October, ATO Records will join forces with music supervisor Randall Poster (Moonrise Kingdom, Boardwalk Empire, Rave On Buddy Holly) to release a Civil War-inspired double album titled Divided & United.

The LP will feature songs from Loretta Lynn, Dolly Parton, Old Crow Medicine Show, Vince Gill, Jamey Johnson, A.A. Bondy, Taj Mahal, T. Bone Burnett, Steve Earle, and Lee Ann Womack, among others.

Divided & United will feature an essay by musician, filmmaker and historian John Cohen, who writes: "This record aspires to erase the legacy of segregation and through music seeks reconciliation instead, in order to celebrate a great musical heritage of America, born in pain, war and prejudice."

Rolling Stone spoke with Lynn about her recording of "Take Your Guns and Go, John," a 150-year-old track about a soldier leaving for war.

"I had such a great time recording this song for this album," Lynn told Rolling Stone. "I loved the song and sound of that banjo, played by Bryan Sutton, made me feel I was back on the front porch in Kentucky where I came from. Glad to be a part of this record."

Putting her own unique spin on the track with banjo and her powerful vocals, Lynn recreates the heartbreaking tale. more on this story

Jennifer Nettles Previews Her New Rick Rubin Produced Solo Album
(Radio.com) Ever since Jennifer Nettles announced that she was recording her first-ever solo album, anticipation has been building. But this past Monday the Sugarland singer finally previewed five of the songs during a listening session in Nashville.

Nettles attended the session and talked about the songs, and her experience recording them at Shangri-La Studio in Malibu, California with super producer Rick Rubin, who she said was "super-active in the recording."

The Nashville Tennessean described the songs as "minimally produced" and often possessing a "'70s vibe." Nettles' comments echoed that as well. "I wanted this record to breathe and be sparse and not be a wall of sound," she said. "I wanted it to be emotional and raw."

According to the Tennessean, the tracklist includes material co-written by pop artists Butch Walker and Richard Marx as well as country hitmakers Tim Owens (a co-writer on Sugarland's hit "Settlin'") and Derek George.

"I think this album plays to my roots," Nettles said during the preview session. "There's country, gospel, '70s music, singer-songwriter stuff, as well. It has been a joy to get to explore those parts of myself. I'm excited and nervous at the same time – all of those things you are when something is important to you." more on this story
