Jay-Z Hangs On To No. 1
. The solid sales week follows a formidable debut last week, during which he sold 527,000 albums to have the second-largest first week of 2013. He's now sold 658,000 records, a hefty sum given that 1 million Samsung users received the album as a free download, which was not counted toward the chart tally. Interestingly, though Magna Carta's continued success holds the reign for rap albums atop the chart, it's the first such album to spend two weeks there, as its predecessors (Yeezus, Born Sinner, The Gifted) bowed at No. 1 for only a week. According to Billboard, the last time that happened was in September 2011, when Lil Wayne's Tha Carter IV held at No. 1 for two weeks. Hov's closest competitor this week ended up being Sara Bareilles. The California singer-songwriter hit No. 2 with The Blessed Unrest, her fourth studio album, selling 68,000 copies. That's a step down from her last album, 2010′s Kaleidoscope Heart, which sold 90,000 in its first week to debut at No. 1. The album's first single, "Brave," has found a home on the Adult Pop Songs chart, peaking so far at No. 13 on that chart.
