(Radio.com) With Glee fans and actors still coping with Cory Monteith's sudden death, co-creator Ryan Murphy is struggling with how to pay tribute during the next season. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Murphy expressed his difficulty in deciding what to do next."When you're faced with something so sad and so shocking, what do you do? Do we cancel the show? Do we start shooting in January? What do we do?" he said. "Ultimately, we decided the best thing for everyone is to get back to work and be around people who knew him and loved him so that everyone can grieve together." On Friday, Fox announced that the premiere date of Glee season five would be pushed back a week. The first episode of the season will air on Sept. 26 and the cast is set to begin production in August instead of the previous set schedule of late July. Murphy said it hasn't been decided how Monteith's death will be addressed on the show, but he plans to pay tribute to the actor during the season's third episode. After the third episode he will take a break to plan the rest of the season. He also confirmed that Glee will not recast Monteith's character Finn Hudson. "The right thing to do for the show, at least at this point, is to have that character pass. When we do the tribute episode to that character, we'll have to do it in a way where the cast members will not have to re-create feelings of grief that they've had this week — but do it in an upbeat way," he said. more.

(Radio.com) On Monday (July 22), right at midnight, Kanye West revealed the video for "Black Skinhead," the first official clip from Yeezus, which unlike a previously leaked version is interactive.Kanye posted the video on his website with a warning that looks similar to those you would see featured right before a movie trailer introducing "Black Skinhead." The note reads like a press release explaining that the video was directed by Nick Knight, the visual artist who also created the worldwide art installation Kanye used to promote Yeezus, with design help from DONDA, the creative house founded by Kanye and named for his late mother. The video offers an interactive experience that "allows users to adjust motion speed and corresponding sounds," or, to put it in layman's terms, speed up or slow down the audio and visuals of the clip. Fans can also "photograph" still images from the video and share them online with others through social media. Kanye wants his video for "Black Skinhead" to be bigger than your average rap video. This interactive concept, which has previously been used before by artists like Arcade Fire, continues Kanye's attempt to blur the line between the music world and the contemporary art world. Currently, the user experience is a little glitchy. A slider tool on the side allows you to slow down the video, which turns it slow-mo (a menacing effect) but causes the clip to pause or even worse, leaves the viewer waiting for it to re-load. Photos can be taken of the clip, but only when it is stopped completely. It makes you wonder if the leak had an effect on the release date. Maybe the video needed a few more days in beta before being officially released to the world. more on this story

The Dierks Bentley headlined Country Cares Concert in Arizona raised over $476,000 last night (July 22nd) to benefit the families of the Granite Mountain Hot Shots who lost their lives in recent wildfires. The concert took place at Tim's Toyota Center in Prescott Valley, AZ and aside from Bentley's headline set, it featured performances from The Band Perry, Randy Houser and David Nail. "Country fans are the best, and when their friends need help, they show up," said Dierks on Monday ahead of the show. "This is my hometown, and I feel a huge pull to go back and be there with them and do what I can to help. I've had some friends speak up and say they wanted to come help, so we're going to put together a special night of music, raise some money and hopefully leave these families and this community with some positive memories." The benefit concert was organized by local radio station's The New KMLE Country @ 107.9, 92.9 KAFF Country and all of the money raised from the event will go to the United Phoenix Firefighters Charities who will directly distribute to the families of the 19 fallen firefighters, according to an announcement from Bentley's camp. They sent over these details about the show: Family members of the 19 firefighters and the sole surviving firefighter were in attendance at the event in an emotional yet celebratory night of music. Bentley honored the fallen firefighters with a photo tribute during his first-ever performance of brand new song "Here On Earth" and kicked off a special version of "Home" with a bagpipe intro by the Rural Metro Pipe and Drum Corp. For fans wishing to help by contributing to the fund, Bentley has details on how to donate here.

(Radio.com) In a blog post, rapper J. Cole apologized to people with autism and their families for a lyric found in "Jodeci Freestyle," a collaboration with Drake, who released the track late last month while announcing the September 17 release date of his upcoming third album, Nothing Was the Same."Last week, when I first saw a comment from someone outraged about the lyric, I realized right away that what I said was wrong," Cole wrote. "I was instantly embarrassed that I would be ignorant enough to say something so hurtful. What makes the crime worse is that I should have known better." The offending lyric ("I'm artistic, you n—-s is autistic, retarded") generated a petition from the Anti-Bullying League asking for an apology and for the line to be removed from the song. "It's time we recognised (sic) people with autism for the exceptional human beings that they are and make a stand," wrote Anna Kennedy, the petition's author. The petition had reached over 4,100 signatures by the time J. Cole wrote his apology, which was acknowledged by Kennedy after closing the appeal for signatures, adding, "now to remove or dub lyrics please." No word yet if J. Cole will do either of those things. 'To the entire Autism community who expressed outrage, I'm moved and inspired by your passion, and I'm amazed at how strong you are as a unit," Cole said in his apology. "To anyone suffering from Autism, either mildly or severely, I am sorry. I'm bound to make mistakes in my life, but in my heart I just want to spread Love." more on this story

(Radio.com) Long before Toby Keith was a familiar name atop the Billboard charts, he was fighting to leave his mark on country radio listeners. In a recent phone interview with Radio.com, Keith recalled the very first time he heard his song on the radio."There were three brand new artists on Mercury [Nashville Records] in '93; it was me and Shania Twain and a guy named John Brannen," he explained. "We were all on one bus doing live shows for these radio concerts. We were going around doing a lot of press. We were brand new artists and they called us the Triple Play Tour because they put our three singles out two weeks apart." Keith explained the situation as a "survival of the fittest type deal," stressing how hard it is to get airplay as "a brand new nobody." For him, Twain and Brannen, the dream of hearing their music on the radio was close to becoming a reality. "We were all on the bus and we were going through Bowling Green, Kentucky, sitting in the back talking," he said. "All of us were new and giddy and happy about this opportunity. Right there on the radio it came on and we were all high-fiving." The song he heard was his debut single, "Should've Been A Cowboy." Released in February of 1993, it went to No. 1 on the Billboard Country Singles Chart four months later and edged into crossover hit territory, peaking at No. 93 on the Hot 100. more on this story

(Radio.com) Early last month, Daft Punk caused a commotion on West 42nd Street in New York City when they were spotted near Grand Central Station being photographed with model Karlie Kloss. While the presence of video cameras had many speculating that the duo was shooting a new music video, it's been revealed that the images were part of a photo shoot for Vogue, with the photos appearing in the magazine's August 2013 edition. In the accompanying story, the band discussed their longtime relationship with designer Hedi Slimane, currently the creative direction for Saint Laurent, who recently featured Daft Punk in a music-focused ad campaign alongside Courtney Love and Marilyn Manson. "He was one of the first people to hear the new album," Thomas Bangalter, one half of the French duo, told the mag. More including photos.

(Radio.com) Country music festivals continue to sprout up all across the country. One of the newest is Faster Horses, a three-day festival that took place this past weekend (July 19-21) on the grounds of the Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn, Mich. This was the festival's very first year, but early estimates put the crowd at around 20,000. It's an impressive number for a new festival, but that's really no surprise, considering the top-shelf lineup. Headliners included Dierks Bentley, Jason Aldean, and Luke Bryan, and the roster was rounded out by such stellar acts as Florida Georgia Line, Chris Young, Jerrod Niemann, Thompson Square, Colt Ford, Jake Owen, Thomas Rhett, and Kix Brooks. A second stage featured a handful of Nashville artists such as Will Hoge, Kelleigh Bannen, and Chris Stapleton but kept much of its focus on Michigan artists, including Gunnar and the Grizzly Boys, the Kari Lynch Band, and Frankie Ballard. According to Live Nation president Brian O'Connell, this was a deliberate move. "We wanted to keep a good portion of [the second stage] Michigan-centric or regional-centric and then add a little bit of spice with some national artists to make sure we had a good balance. There would be nothing cooler than to break an act from Michigan out of Faster Horses." More including photos.
