Possible Felony Charges For Kanye West After Photographer Hospitalized
Controversial rapper Kanye West is facing possible felony charges after a photographer was hospitalized following an alleged altercation at Los Angeles International Airport on Friday, according to TMZ.

The gossip site reports that law enforcement sources have told them that the alleged victim was injured in an altercation with the rapper and wants to press charges.

The police will reportedly refer the case to the district attorney's office seeking felony robbery charges and not assault since West reportedly tried to wrestle the camera out of the photographer's hand.

They report that the photographer fell during the incident and paramedics and police were called to the scene and the photographer was taken to the hospital.

West reportedly quickly "jumped into a waiting car" and left the scene right after the altercation with the photographer, which reportedly began after the photographer peppered West with questions. TMZ has streaming videos of the incident here.

Puscifer Gets The Sir Mix-A-Lot Treatment
Tool/A Perfect Circle frontman Maynard James Keenan's other band Puscifer are releasing a remix album called "All Re-Mixed Up," on August 23rd and fans can get a taste of what is come right now.

Vice is hosting a preview of one of the tracks, the Sir Mix-A-Lot's remix of the title track to Puscifer's 2011 album "Conditions of My Parole." Check it out here.

Puscifer mastermind Maynard James Keenan had this to say about the remix album, "All Re-Mixed Up is the continuation of the Puscifer tradition to release alternate versions, reworks, and remixes of what we consider initial thoughts.

"For instance, Carina Round was nervous about how to approach her version of 'Telling Ghosts.' Mat Mitchell put her at ease by asking her to think of it as a song half written, advising her to 'now write the other half.'

"It's extremely liberating in the digital age to approach composing and creating in this manner. Infinite paths to explore, reinterpret, and re-present." more on this story

Taylor Swift Fans Have Strong Reaction To Bad Kids T-Shirt
(Radio.com) Once again, Taylor Swift's fans are steaming mad. And once again, the subject of their scorn is a simple cotton T-shirt. This time it's not Abercrombie & Fitch that is the villain.

It's a company called Bad Kids Clothing, which describes itself as "an EDM-inspired clothing line with a strong foundation in selling neon apparel." The shirt in question (dubbed the "The Doherty&") lists the names of Swift's (known) dating partners.

As soon as word got out about the shirt, it didn't take long for Swifties (Taylor's rabid fan base) to jump to attention and take action.

In a recent blog post, Andi Cross of Bad Kids gave her POV on the controversy. "The shirt originally started out as just a light hearted joke between friends," all of whom "enjoy the pop tunes of T-Swift." Cross writes that she "was joking with friends saying I wish I had as many hot boyfriends as Taylor – so hard to even get a solid date around here! You go T-Swift, you're a babe! A simple, fun, harmless joke however, turned into an online sensation over the weekend and frankly shocked the Bad Kid community to the core."

"The messages we were receiving were some of the most foul, horrific, violent notes I had frankly ever encountered in my personal experiences." more on this story

Kanye West Rants Against Pink In Alleged Taylorgate Recording
(Radio.com) Earlier this week, Taylor Swift was taken to task by some for her passing Twitter mention of the infamous 2009 Kanye West MTV Video Music Awards mic-snatching incident after she was nominated for two VMAs.

It seems Swift isn't the only one still fixated on that controversial moment. New audio has surfaced, capturing a voice that most certainly sounds to be Kanye West's, just hours after Taylorgate. Gawker, whose tipster provided the audio, claims that the recording was taken at a New York City restaurant following the VMAs, and that Kanye was not aware he was being recorded. His discussion turns distinctly racial when discussing his motivation for interrupting Swift, which — for those who don't have the moment forever engrained — to say that Beyoncé was cheated out of an award over Swift.

"I'm pushing the envelope! I wrote my f***in' 'Run This Town' verse for a f***in' month! When I heard Eminem's verse on the Drake s***, I went back and rewrote my s*** for two days," West practically screams on the recording. "I canceled appointments to rewrite! I f***in' care…Because I did that, Taylor Swift cannot win over Beyoncé! Because I wrote my verse in two days, Taylor Swift cannot beat Beyoncé. As long as I'm alive! And if I'm alive, kill me then! Kill me then! As long as I'm alive, you gon' have to deal with it. 'Cause there ain't gonna be no more motherf***ing Elvises with no James Browns."

When a female questions why West seems so angry, he explodes, claiming that his "mother died for this fame s***! F*** MTV."

The rapper goes on to throw Pink under the bus, questioning why she was invited to perform two songs at that year's VMA ceremony, while he wasn't asked to perform at all. "How the f*** Pink perform two songs and I didn't even get asked to perform 'Heartless'?" he said. "'Heartless' is the biggest song of the year!" more on this story

311 Frontman Nick Hexum Previews Song From Solo Album
311 frontman Nick Hexum will be releasing his very first solo album, "My Shadow Pages," on October 1st and fans can hear the first song from the effort online.

"My Shadow Pages" was produced by Jim Scott (Wilco, Tom Petty, Jason Mraz), was recorded in Los Angeles and will be released under the moniker of The Nick Hexum Quintet.

Hexum is backed by drummer Gary Novak (Alanis Morissette, George Benson, Chick Corea), Andrés Rebellón (a Colombian native Hexum discovered at a Musicians Institute audition), keyboardist Luke Miller (Phunkelotopus, New Soul Underground) and Nick's guitar/sax/keyboard-playing brother, Zack Hexum (who has toured with Fitz & the Tantrums, performed with Michael Buble and composes music for film & television).

"311 is, and always will be my main priority," says Hexum. "We just launched our annual summer tour and we'll have a new 311 album coming in 2014. But this Nick Hexum Quintet album is something I've wanted to do for a long time. It's a passion project that allows me to spread my wings as a songwriter, vocalist and guitarist. I'm really excited for people to hear it."

The album is musical departure from Hexum's work with 311, it blends elements of funk, pop, jazz and classic rock. You can preview one of the tracks, "Blame the Sky,"

Jay-Z Changes His Name
(Radio.com) Eagle-eyed Jay Z fans have started to notice something different about his name in album credits, on Spotify and iTunes, and his website – specifically, that the hyphen that existed for years in his moniker has suddenly vanished. And in most cases, he's all-caps "JAY Z." Next stop, symbols!

According to Billboard Editor-in-Chief Joe Levy's Twitter account, Jay Z's label Roc Nation alerted him to the official moniker update: "Breaking: Jay Z has dropped the hyphen from his name, according to his label. I am not kidding. (Wish I was.) Copy editors: take note."

While Levy's tweet has turned Jay Z's subtle reinvention into legitimate news, the rapper's publicist Jana Fleishman has revealed that the hyphen has been gone longer than the rest of the world might realize.

"Dude, we haven't used the hyphen since 2010," Fleishman told Complex in a statement. The story doesn't stop there.

Robin Thicke's New Song 'Ain't No Hat 4 That' Is A Family Affair
(Radio.com) Robin Thicke shows no signs of slowing down. On the heels of releasing new track "The Good Life" earlier this week and "Give It 2 U" featuring Kendrick Lamar two weeks ago, Thicke released another new song, "Ain't No Hat 4 That," Wednesday night (July 17). The song features his familiar falsetto and funky, fast beats, but there is one voice at the beginning of the track that catches us off guard in its utter smallness: his son's.

Thicke's three-year-old son Julian kicks off the song, saying, "Ain't no hat for that." But he isn't the only family member who assisted on the track. Thicke's father, Growing Pains actor Alan Thicke, helped co-write the track.

Like much of Thicke's new music, "Ain't No Hat 4 That" has a feel-good vibe that seems informed by Off The Wall era Michael Jackson and Jamiroquai, among others.

Thicke often finds inspiration from another family member, his wife Paula Patton. "My wife is my creative partner," he recently told Radio.com. "She's an actress, filmmaker and producer and I'm a creative writer of all kinds. Any idea I have she's the first one to hear it or see it and make it better always. And sometimes she's the one with the idea. She'll just come up and say, 'You need to write a song about this,' because she's going through it. Sometimes I'll write a song with what she's going through." Listen here.

Elton John Convinces Court To Dismiss 'Nikita' Copyright Case
(Radio.com) In 1985, Elton John had a Top 10 hit on the Billboard 200 with "Nikita," the jaunty ballad about unrequited love during the Cold War. This week, the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals dismissed a suit claiming that John and his longtime songwriting partner Bernie Taupin plagiarized the hit from "Natasha," a song submitted to John's publisher years before "Nikita" hit the charts.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, "Natasha" songwriter Guy Hobbs asked the court to acknowledge the similarities between the two songs, including "a theme of impossible love between a Western man and a Communist woman during the Cold War," and "references to written correspondence to the beloved."

Despite Hobbs' claim that the songs shared too many "unique combinations" to be a coincidence, the court didn't agree, stating that copyright law does not cover general ideas, but the specific expression of an idea.

"While the court conceded that the two songs had some similar characteristics, many of them are "rudimentary, commonplace, standard, or unavoidable in popular love songs." more on this story

90s Country Star Marty Brown Advances On 'America's Got Talent'
(Radio.com) Marty Brown is having a great year so far. After wowing judges during an early audition for America's Got Talent, the Kentucky native and 1990s country star moved on to the next level of the TV competition–a second audition in Las Vegas.

During that Vegas audition, which aired Wednesday night (July 17), Brown sang a moving version of Keith Whitley's song "When You Say Nothing At All." And once again, he earned enough praise for his performance to move on again–this time to New York's Radio City Music Hall.

As with the widespread acclaim for his first audition (where he covered Bob Dylan's "Make You Feel My Love"), Brown attributes his newfound notoriety entirely to his wife Shellie, who is responsible for his appearance on the show (she tricked him into appearing–though he didn't seem to mind one bit).

As he tells the TV audience, if Shellie hadn't "kidnapped" him and driven him to that initial audition, "I wouldn't be here in Vegas right now. I'd probably be laying a tile floor with my buddy."

"My wife Shellie, she is the love of my life," Brown says. "I could fill up five rolls of film telling you how much I love my wife." more on this story

Incubus' Mike Einziger Discusses The Making Of Avicii's 'Wake Me Up'
(Radio.com) Avicii's latest single, "Wake Me Up," has rocketed to No. 1 on the iTunes charts in 14 countries (as of press time). Despite the fact that the song was composed in his Malibu, Calif. home studio, no one is more surprised about this than Incubus guitarist Mike Einziger.

Although the track's international success is undeniable, "Wake Me Up" received mixed reviews after its American debut at the Ultra Music Festival in March. EDM fans were confused by rock and bluegrass musicians playing live on stage alongside the Swedish DJ and producer. Einziger was among the rockers taking part in the jam session, along with his fiancée — accomplished bluegrass violinist and banjo player Ann Marie Simpson — and fellow Incubus bandmates Ben Kenney (bass) and Jose Pasillas (drums). Bluegrass big Dan Tyminski, old-school country crossover star Mac Davis and folk-rocker Audra Mae also took part in Avicii's Ultra performance.

Meanwhile, Incubus fans immediately took to social media to try to wrap their heads around the pairing of a rock guitarist and bluegrass musicians with one of the biggest faces among the new crop of EDM stars.

Despite the reaction, "Wake Me Up" became the first single from Avicii's upcoming debut studio album, #TRUE, out September 27 on PDRM/Island Records. The Mumford-lets-the-bass-drop song is now on track to become the fastest-selling U.K. single of 2013 so far. Released stateside June 25, it's gaining at American radio and expected to creep up the Hot 100 chart, this week at No. 68 (up from No. 81 last week).

"It doesn't matter how many times you write a song, for people to respond to it in such a drastic way is never expected," Einziger said in an exclusive interview with Radio.com this week. "It's never expected in Incubus, and it was not expected with this collaboration with Avicii and Aloe [Blacc, whose vocals are featured]."

Speaking of the seemingly odd pairing, Einziger said: "Over the last six or eight months that Incubus has been on hiatus, I've been writing lots of music with lots of different people, the connection that Avicii and I have with each other was unexpected. I think it was surprising to a lot of people that know me and also know him. We seem to operate in what seems to be different musical universes but when we got together the way that we started writing together, it couldn't have been more organic and effortless."

Einziger confessed that he "was not that familiar with Avicii's music when [they] first met up to discuss music." A lot more from Mike.
