Country Music legend George Glenn Jones died today, Friday, April 26, 2013 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee. He was hospitalized April 18 with fever and irregular blood pressure. Webster sent over the following: Born September 12, 1931, Jones is regarded among the most important and influential singers in American popular music history. He was the singer of enduring country music hits including "She Thinks I Still Care," "The Grand Tour," "Walk Through This World With Me," "Tender Years" and "He Stopped Loving Her Today," the latter of which is often at the top of industry lists of the greatest country music singles of all time. "A singer who can soar from a deep growl to dizzying heights, he is the undisputed successor of earlier natural geniuses such as Hank Williams and Lefty Frizzell," wrote Bob Allen in the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum's "Encyclopedia of Country Music." Jones was born in Saratoga, Texas, and he played on the streets of Beaumont for tips as a teenager. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps before returning to Texas and recording for the Starday label in Houston, Texas. In 1955, his "Why Baby Why" became his first Top 10 country single, peaking at number four and beginning a remarkable commercial string: Jones would ultimately record more than 160 charting singles, more than any other artist in any format in the history of popular music. Jones' first number one hit came in 1959 with "White Lightning," a Mercury Records single that topped Billboard country charts for five weeks. He moved on to United Artists and then to Musicor, notching hits including "She Thinks I Still Care," "The Race Is On," "A Good Year for the Roses" and "Walk Through This World With Me." Jones signed with Epic Records in 1971 and worked with producer Billy Sherrill to craft a sound at once elegant and rooted, scoring with "The Grand Tour," "Bartenders Blues" and many more. Sherrill also produced duets between Jones and his then-wife Tammy Wynette, and in the 1970s they scored top-charting hits including "We're Gonna Hold On," "Golden Ring" and "Near You." more

(Radio.com) Justin Bieber has had another controversial run-in with authority, this time for marijuana found on the pop star's tour bus.According to both BBC News and Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet, Stockholm police raided Bieber's bus after an officer detected the smell of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle. Once inside, police discovered "a small amount of drugs and a stun gun," says Stockholm police department press officer Lars Bystrom. The bus was parked outside Stockholm's Globen Arena, where Bieber was performing as part of the European leg of his current world tour. However, it doesn't appear Bieber's tour will be going up in smoke. Bystrom said multiple people were on the bus at the time of the search and the department does not have a specific suspect so no one will be charged in the matter. Following the raid, Bieber and his entourage continued to Helsinki for his April 26th show. This isn't the singer's first tango with controversy during his most recent tour.

(Radio.com) Fans of the boy band Mindless Behavior are used to seeing the guys attired in matching outfits, often all-black suits. But those who caught the group's documentary, All Around The World, discovered how the guys dressed on their off time. For one of them, Princeton, that meant getting up close and personal with his expansive collection of rock t-shirts.Princeton comes from a much more rock-oriented background that the rest of his bandmates, citing John Lennon as one of his favorite artists. In the film, he can be seen sporting shirts that feature the Pixies, Led Zeppelin, the Beatles, Nirvana and a plethora of other rock bands — a collection he told Radio.com is the result of years of curation. "I grew up listening to every punk band you can think of so when I dress… I always love a really old beat-up old rock t-shirt," Princeton said. "It can be really big or super small, ripped up — it doesn't really matter. I rock it the way I rock it." "I get them from thrift stores. I get a lot of my stuff from thrift stores or I just steal them from my aunt," he laughed. "I really steal clothes a lot." "Or Hot Topic," Ray Ray said, as Princeton agreed. "That's one of my favorite stores." More including video.

(Radio.com) Before PSY broke the unprecedented YouTube record of one billion views on the site with "Gangnam Style," a legion of dedicated global fans were already supporting him and his K-pop peers. South Korea has 50 million people, but the videos from the country's shiniest, glossiest pop stars, who sing mostly in Korean, were ranking millions of views past that on YouTube. It wasn't just Koreans watching K-pop music videos — an international network of fans were watching and listening (and subsequently re-watching and re-listening) to a genre they had no access to other than via the Internet, and largely, YouTube.A major indicator of how the genre has been able to cross into other cultures — ones extremely different from the Korean heritage — comes in the music itself. K-pop is a combination of different genres popular Western music. Everything from electro-pop to R&B to piano ballads to hip-hop to soul music can be heard in K-pop hits. But a major specialty of K-pop is in its ability to blend these into hybrid, pop confections completely in their own league. Sound intimidating? Get an introduction to K-pop with five popular songs broken down to make any music fan understand the different elements at work. These artists, producers and songwriters obviously don't jack the different sounds; there are just similarities that K-pop and Western fans can bond over in order to better understand each other's musical language, even when their actual languages differ. K-pop expert Jeff Benjamin does the math.
