(CBS Local) The Voice may have come to a close earlier this month, but things are only getting started for Season 3 champion Cassadee Pope."I feel awesome. I feel exhausted. It's just been a whirlwind since it's happened," Pope told 97.1 AMP Radio. It was only a few weeks ago when Cassadee visited AMP Radio along with the rest of the top 8. Looking back, Cassadee revealed what she thought was the turning point in the singing competition. "I think I started to really feel like I had a chance when 'Over You' charted. That was something that I never thought I would accomplish on my own," she said. "So when that happened, I thought to myself not only could I do that with my own music, but I could actually maybe take this thing. "That's when I started to continue doing country songs because I thought maybe there was something there that I was missing and it turns out that I actually love incorporating a little country in the pop/rock genre." She had a lot more to say.

The two recently teamed up for Tourι's latest video, a hazy, nebulous visual for the song "Streets Love It." Directed by Dylan Freitas-D'Louhy, the video looks like something ripped off a broken VHS tape with revolving frames and grainy footage, and shows both Tourι and Casual rhyming in front of glow-in-the-dark hieroglyphic paintings and fine females. Shriners Hospitals for Children sent over the details about their float titled, "Helping Kids Live their Dreams" that will be in this year's Tournament of Roses Parade on New Year's Day. Riding on the float will be representatives from Shriners International as well as patients who exemplify the hospital's mission and embody the Tournament of Roses' theme, "Oh the Places You'll Go!" The 2013 Shriners Hospitals for Children float was decorated by the riders, as well as patients from Shriners Hospital for Children Los Angeles. Here are details about two of the participants: Carrie Holmstrom, age 23, had surgery to remove both her feet and all the fingers on her right hand following a car accident six years ago. She awoke from a medically induced coma and within eight months took her first steps on artificial legs she received at Shriners Hospitals for Children Springfield (Mass.). Carrie, who lives in Houston, recently ran her first 5K. Hunter Woodhall, age 13, was born with a lower limb deficiency that required surgery to remove both his feet. At just 11 months old, he was fitted with artificial legs at Shriners Hospitals for Children Tampa and quickly walked on them. Hunter and his family moved to Utah, where he grew to become an accomplished athlete. Specialists at Shriners Hospitals for Children Salt Lake City offered several orthopaedic options to allow him more flexibility in sports. Hunter excels on the basketball court, football field and wrestling mat, and is an avid runner, skier and swimmer. You can find information about the hospital here.

Today alt folk trio Until the Bird... tell us about the song "Collateral" which comes from their debut EP, "Dwelling". Here is the story: Collateral is a sort of protest song about protest songs. I may well agree with the message of your standard folky protest song but the didactic way in which it is presented could be off-putting. Things are rarely that simple. In Collateral everything is mixed up: war, sex, tourism, aspiration, entertainment, technology... this is summed up most pointedly by the naked lines: 'now the fireworks are going off, take me in your mouth white phosphorous' (white phosphorous is a horrendous substance used by the Israeli military amongst others). You could argue that this is in extremely bad taste, and you'd be right. The thrust of Collateral is that we're all complicit in some way in the global situation. This is a pre-apocalyptic post-Wikileaks song, where we should all know what collateral means, in many senses: (link). Collateral damage is what happens on the side, whether you're a direct spectator or just trying to keep your head down. And here I realise that maybe this song is just as didactic at bottom as those over-the-counter obvious songs I rail against. However, Collateral is really too slippery for that. The main ukulele riff is wild, barely containable, but also very monotonous and repetitive. The trombone gives a jauntiness at odds with a lot of the subject matter, while in the choruses the euphonium adds a tone of the ominous and the martial. The violin screeches between music and noise. We are attempting to contrast the medium and the message by opposing the sometimes almost clownish music with the dark content of the lyrics. There is a transformation at the end of the song as it slowly marches to dissolution. But although the music has shifted feeling to warmth and resolve the lyrics are a repetition of the first verse: we're right back where we started. And then it all falls apart anyway. Collateral is the third track on our ep 'Dwelling', and is a really a companion piece to the next track, 'Triage', which is like a reaction to what came before. Where Collateral is mostly frantic and jokey, Triage is exhausted, yet contains a hard-won acceptance but one that comes at a great cost. Our friend the film maker Huw PW made this video for Collateral: (watch it here) it plays on all those themes and complicates the vibe even further! But it also highlights the defiant sense of fun threaded through the whole thing. Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself right here!
